General Discussion / Re: Webhosts...

I've got a reseller account at hostgator. Had it since 2005, and I couldn't be happier.

Additionally, if you get a domain, I can give you quite a bit of space and bandwidth for free. They've been upgrading my package (without upping the price) for years and I've got oodles of space/bw :)

I'll never buy anything with DRM which limits its use like Apple and Amazon do. If it ties me to a device or a certain amount of devices, no thanks. If it ties me to a server which needs to authenticate the material, no thanks.

Companies go under. I want my purchased media to last longer than those companies do.

DRM free all the way. And yes, that means I'll miss out on things. That's cool with me.

Games, though, are different. I'll buy 'em, then crack 'em (if need be, unlike, for example, GOG games). I don't play multiplayer anyway. Just don't want the DRM/phoning home nonsense.

There's a lot of pages here, and I'm in a hurry, so I'll just ask this, risking a repeat: Can you add Escape to the keys menu? I'd like to be able to skip cutscenes :)

Anyway, HTC Desire Z, runs Resonance and the Ben Jordans fine :)

Haha, what a coincidence :D

I hadn't seen the site you were selling it on and was suggesting lulu as a way to get physical copies into people's hands ;)

Trackmania. Ever single time I make an avoidable screwup I'll throw up my hands and go "fuck this!".

I love that game.

Huh. Not actually knowing any real things about Estonian, it sounds far more like Finnish than it does like Russian. Never would have thunk. Interesting :)

Then they can take to Twitter and point a link to the game in question. Or they can post about it on Facebook. If they care enough about the game in question, then suitable avenues to crow about it are only a url away.

See, I don't understand this way of thinking. Why not make it easy to spread the word?

You don't like facebook/twitter? Fine! But there is no reason to gimp a site because some people don't want to use a feature.

The facebook like button, I don't like. I agree that it's iffy to share that much information with facebook from a site that has a like button (which is a minimally tiny link to fb, which means it shouldn't get info).

Share and Twitter's intent are easy as pie and don't require any info/tracking to/from facebook.

They're just links. Inert, safe.

http://www.facebook.com/share.php?u=http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk

If I can do that from the forum, you can trust that they're just links. If these get implemented, then you've got nothing to worry about, LimpingFish. If the Like button gets implemented, eh, I'd rather you not.

Awesome! Will take a bit of getting used to but it flows much more logically this way!

And it's unsettling and inspiring to see things getting done so darn quickly! :D

The first adventure game I ever played was Maniac Mansion. And I hated it. I at first thought I was too young when I first tried it, but having tried to replay it many times since, I've found myself still hating it.

That said, I've played every single SCUMM game there is by LucasArts, and even some Putt Putt games (with a nephew).

Grim Fandango is one of the best games ever. The controls are weird, but unlike MI4, the game itself isn't insultingly bad, so the controls don't bother for too long.

When it comes to Sierra, I've played almost every one of them.

I've finished SQ1, 2, 5 and 6. Space Quest 5 is one of my favorite adventure games ever (go Dynamix!) My nickname isn't voh without reason.

I've also finished KQ 1, 5, 6 and 7. Torin's fricking Passage (and I loved that game SO BAD). QfG 1, 3 and 4. LSL 1, 4 (sadly, was on self-destructing floppies), 5 and 6.

I prefer LucasArts over Sierra, but that's a style thing. I prefer the lack of dead ends, deaths and such. But there's never been a moment where I disliked either's.

I've never understood Sierra VS LucasArts. Also, I've never understood consoles VS PC, Sega VS Nintendo, Sony VS Microsoft. Hell, I hardly understand Mac VS Everyone Else or Windows VS Linux. I just use whatever's best for the job at hand, or, in the case of games, whatever I find fun.

Live and let live. Why so serious?

What about the Android AGS market place?

Interesting... I'll spend some time to see if I can come up with something :)

QuoteBy no means does this mean you're right. I kinda disagree with your viewpoint. If you can, help. If you can't, wishing luck won't harm anyone.

My intention wasn't that you should stay out of the thread if all you have to offer is well wishes.

I think some of you can be a bit thin-skinned at times, taking broad-reaching statements like many of you to mean you specifically.

Given that all posts up to that point had been of the 'well wishing' type and your statement was that you were 'officially calling all of [us]' out to donate, seemingly regardless of our own issues, it kind of did cover all of us. And that seemed a little harsh.

Chalk it up to misunderstanding due to lack of nuance on both sides (and remembering that text alone is an imperfect way of communication) and I think we're good.

Joe - check your PMs. And your kid is adorable.

I'm officially calling all of you out to donate 5-10 dollars (or more if you can spare it).

I get what you're saying but you can't decide for others what their priorities/finances are. Just because we can't spare money for Joseph (either due to total lack of funds or other reasons) doesn't mean we don't sympathize.

I, for example, when I wrote my response, was in a situation where it seemed like I wasn't getting paid for the last month I worked before being laid off. Now that the money's in, I'll see what I can do once there's a way to shuffle some dineros around. It won't be much but I can spare some.

By no means does this mean you're right. I kinda disagree with your viewpoint. If you can, help. If you can't, wishing luck won't harm anyone.

It's just a lucky break (for me and possibly Joe) that my situation's less terrifying than it was before, and now I can help :)

Don't feel bad asking - that takes a lot of courage, really. Sad thing is, a lot of people are in similar situations (though I myself, for example, at least have the benefit of not having a family to take care of).

All I can do is wish you the best and hope it all works out :/

Sex? Great!

Homosexuals? Not a problem!

I think it's a consequence of where I'm from (at least, as a result of how the Netherlands used to be), but tolerance was something I grew up with. Everyone's allowed to do whatever the hell they please, as long as it's not hurting someone else (or otherwise illegal, though if being gay was illegal then that'd not be okay).

What the hell should I care how people find love? And since most everyone deserves to love and be loved, all the more luck to everyone!

We're all so grown up :D

I'm content with the votes so far - I'd've voted wyz, monkey and mods anyway.

Looking forward to how this plays out!

You know, Facebook's just really creepy. Their stance on privacy can be summed up as "We'll go as far as we can get away with".

And whether you're intruding on other's privacy, well.. If you/they cared about their privacy, you/they shouldn't be on facebook :P

Win32 apps will work fine, so it shouldn't have a huge impact on AGS.  And it's not like there's going to be any x86 emulation on the ARM version of W8 so I wouldn't expect to see AGS on Windows tablets very soon.

Well, yeah, ARM tablets. But if Intel manages to get its foot in the door, they might show up on the x86 tablets (said to run on 'future' single-core atom 'medfield' cpus).

Given that Windows 8 is basically Windows 7 + touchy-feely metro, all should run fine, and in the case of x86 tablets, WHOO FINALLY.
