As I mentioned before though, I wouldn't really say atheism is a "set of beliefs". The only thing that makes you an atheist is not accepting proof of God claims as true.

If we go by your standards of religion though, couldn't you make almost anything a religion? If you're a Democrat or Republican, does that make you part of a religion?

I think we may just have to agree to disagree on how we want to define religion.

I maintain this assertion based on the fact that "not believing in [something]" is syntactic sugar for "believing [something] is false". Atheists believe that God does not exist, therefore atheism is a representation of their religious faith.

Hmmm, I think I see what you're getting at, but I'm not sure how plausible it is to say that a lack of a belief in something is a religion. :-\

Atheism is merely a lack of belief in God claims.

Some really interesting stuff being said in this thread. These kind of conversations are my favorite. However, they usually don't really lead to anything good. Typically, both parties leave the discussion angrier and more strongly-rooted in their beliefs than before. I feel like these conversations are useless unless both parties can come to the table with an open mind and the conversation doesn't devolve into heated, back-and-forth arguments of who's more stupid.

I actually changed my mind about a lot of stuff after having some calm, in-depth discussions about religion (I wasn't really Christian, more of a spiritual agnostic). I also did a lot of research on my own. Stuff like The Atheist Experience with Matt Dillahunty really helped me solidify what my beliefs were and why. If you're spiritual and want to hear different viewpoints, I'd recommend it. :)

This episode was really good, although the discussion gets pretty heated in parts.

Hey Jimbob, just played your game and thought it was really cute! I loved the art style and concept!

I think I found one bug while playing:

  • I got the love letter and went back to the other side. After watching the bishop go by on the stretcher, I went back to the chessboard and found I couldn't go back to the Westside no matter how much I clicked on it.

A couple thoughts/questions/issues that came up while playing. Disregard if you don't think they're relevant...

  • It took me a very long time to figure out that I wasn't supposed to actually land on any squares of the chessboard as a knight/bishop/rook. I kept on thinking I actually had to play the game to get across the board instead of moving completely across. Kinda wish I could've played some chess and used some strategy. :(

  • The bishop's hat blended in so much with the background that it was very hard to find. Had me stuck for a long time and kind of frustrated me when I found it. (Could've just been me being stupid though.)

  • Are you planning on adding more frames to the walk cycle of the knight? I think it would look even more awesome with two more frames spliced in.

Overall, really enjoyed the game! Really looking forward to playing the ending! (laugh)

Most helpful:  Really hard for me to decide, since I got a lot of good feedback from people like Cerno, cat and Kasander. This is tough, but I'm going to go with Misj' for this one, even though he dropped out halfway through.

Most improved pieceCerno and Selmiak! Half a point each! (Kasander did it, so I can too. :))

Best process:  I'm going with ThreeOhFour on this.

Wait, I'm a little confused...

Are we voting for "best process" or "most improved piece throughout the workshop"?
#72
I usually like making progress .gifs of my piece after I'm done (since I'm OCD about saving multiple drafts), and Selmiak posted his too, so I thought I'd share...

Since the monster workshop is over, I might give it a try if I'm not too busy.  :)

Should I post another image from the movie to help you guys out?

Hey Andail, weren't there two other categories we were going to be voting on as well?

-Most helpful to other users
-Most improved piece

I have people in mind for each category. :)

I can only speak for myself, but I think the things that scare me the most are the things I don't fully see that are left ambiguous. For example, by hiding a monster in the shadows where the player can't fully see, you allow the player's mind to wonder what the monster looks like, and the unknown will probably scare the player more than the monster itself. On the same vein, creepy noises in other rooms, chase scenes where you're not sure what's chasing you, sometimes shock scares (although it is kind of cheap)... all this stuff adds urgency and dread to a game. These are the types of things that scare the crap out of me.

Haha, wow, nice! I totally didn't make that connection even though I've seen both! :P

Hopefully mine won't be too easy...
