It's time once again to review the winners of the Annual "Stella Awards." The Stella Awards are named after 81 year-old Stella Liebeck of New Mexico who spilled hot coffee on herself and successfully sued McDonald's. That case inspired the Stella awards for the most frivolous, ridiculous, successful lawsuits in the United States.
Here are this year's winners:

7th Place:
Kathleen Robertson of Austin, Texas, was awarded $80,000 by a jury of her peers after breaking her ankle tripping over a toddler who was running inside a furniture store. The owners of the store were understandably surprised at the verdict, considering the misbehaving little toddler was Ms. Robertson's son.

6th Place:
19-year-old Carl Truman of Los Angeles won $74,000 and medical expenses when his neighbor ran over his hand with a Honda Accord. Mr. Truman apparently didn't notice there was someone at the wheel of the car when he was trying to steal his neighbor's hubcaps.

5th Place:
Terrence Dickson of Bristol, Pennsylvania, was leaving a house he had just finished robbing by way of the garage. He was not able to get the garage door to go up since the automatic door opener was malfunctioning. He couldn't re-enter the house because the door connecting the house and garage locked when he pulled it shut. The family was on vacation, and Mr. Dickson found himself locked in the garage for eight days. He subsisted on a case of Pepsi he found, and a large bag of dry dog food. He sued the homeowner's insurance claiming the situation caused him undue mental anguish. The jury agreed to the tune of $500,000.

4th Place:
Jerry Williams of Little Rock, Arkansas, was awarded $14,500 and medical expenses after being bitten on the buttocks by his next door neighbor's beagle. The beagle was on a chain in its owner's fenced yard. The award was less than sought because the jury felt the dog might have been just a little provoked at the time by Mr. Williams, who had climbed over the fence into the yard and was shooting it repeatedly with a pellet gun.

3rd Place:
A Philadelphia restaurant was ordered to pay Amber Carson of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, $113,500 after she slipped on a soft drink and broke her coccyx (tailbone). The beverage was on the floor because Ms. Carson had thrown it at her boyfriend 30 seconds earlier during an argument.

2nd Place:
Kara Walton of Claymont, Delaware, successfully sued the owner of a night club in a neighboring city when she fell from the bathroom window to the floor and knocked out her two front teeth. This occurred while Ms.Walton was trying to sneak through the window in the ladies room to avoid paying the $3.50 cover charge. She was awarded $12,000 and dental expenses.

1st Place:
This year's runaway winner was Mrs. Merv Grazinski of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Mrs. Grazinski purchased a brand new 32-foot Winnebago motor home. On her first trip home, (from an OU football game), having driven onto the freeway, she set the cruise control at 70 mph and calmly left the drivers seat to go into the back & make herself a sandwich. Not surprisingly, the RV left the freeway, crashed and overturned. Mrs.Grazinski sued Winnebago for not advising her in the owner's manual that she couldn't actually do this. The jury awarded her $1,750,000 plus a new motor home. The company actually changed their manuals on the basis of this suit, just in case there were any other complete morons around.

@BOYD1981
i didn't want it to look like i was plugging lassie to be honest

@Gilbot V7000a
the owner of lassie is up for the idea, if the AGS gang what to play all the better, we could do it engine dependent, ie one section for AGS one for LASSIE and any others that join in
i'll gladly host the main contest front end and provide space for uploaded games

@Gilbot V7000a
all three AGS games i made where for MAGS so i know the benfits these comps bring, its an exellent way to learn any game engine, a reachable target, a set theme to get the ball rolling and guidelines to follow, most newbies set the goals to high and get bored and never get past the first room left to their own devices
i'm a member of here , lassie and 3dgs i see it all the time

@Pablo
i think we'd need a central point for the various communities to converge, a bit like MAGS has a remote voting system, and have a thread on the participating site to enter, i'm not sure how to do the voting so its fair tho! 1000's of members on AGS to 33 on LASSIE lol

anyways i need to know if anyone will be up for the challange and actually would consider giving it a go

shock horror.. but theres people out there that haven't heard of AGS or LASSIE, theres engines i've never seen or tried
i just thught it might be a way to get a bit of competative spirit going between the communities
i'll host the comp away from AGS and offer the upload space for the games

i have an idea if any of you guys are interested
as well as AGS i've been having a bit play with LASSIE and thought it might be fun if we/i did a monthly contest like MAGS combining entrants for both AGS, LASSIE and any other engine that comes to mind
i loved doing MAGS games and found it a great way to learn AGS
anyone interested?
Greg/BigMac the developer of LASSIE is interested in the idea so if enough people wanna join in we'll get the ball rolling in a few months  ;D

a guy sold a special edition starwars XBox box for over £200, the man who bought it thought he was buying the console even tho throughout the listing the seller had pointed out he was only selling the packaging box!

oh in answer to your Q yes people probably would by AGS games on ebay, if you word the discription right
#93
nice game..
you get the error.. if you miss out the puzzle before.. probably because the animation (robot) isn't there
#94
you can get good results using Poser for characters, it just takes time getting the rendering setting right
the pic is burt from a 3D based game i've done, no nasty anti alias edges :)

nice graphics btw

its ringing alarm bells for me too.. check the whois register to see if you actually are registered with the domain name

ok if it is a scam you only lose £1, but cosidering 3 of 4 people here have took em up on the offer its gonna mount up very quickly for the possible scammers, easy money IMO

edit:
even odder is their domain name is registered through 123reg and would of cost them £6 for 2 years! and its set as a redirected domain (its using 123reg's DNS)

use http://www.whois.sc to see if you have the name

in Cpanel it should show you how much space you have

The Rumpus Room / Re: AGS Questionaire!
Mon 27/02/2006 11:43:18
Name:Woodz (nige copeland)

Age: another in the old fart category!

Female/male: male

1. How long have you been involved in the AGS community?
since 2002 off n on

2. Why did you get involved in AGS?
to make graphic based adventure games

3. How do you feel that the fact that AGS is a freeware programmer affect the community that has built up around it?
i admire Chris Jones a lot for keeping AGS freeware, most dedicated AGSers would gladly pay regardless

4. How big a part does the AGS community play in your life?
the real world take up more time nowadays

5. Have you been involved in making any games using AGS? You may list them if you want
three MAGS games between 2002/2003

6. Answer these questions if you have been involved in making AGS games:

a. Were you interested in game design/programming before you started using AGS?
i did do text adventures and DOS based games, then found AGS

b. If no, do you feel that you would have got into game design without AGS?

c. Do you make games using other programmers, either freeware or not? How does the experience differ?
i make games with the LASSIE engine, the ultimate goal is to make is to have AGS and online playable games

d. Has AGS inspired you to try and take up game design professionally?
not really, I'm not good enough

7. Do you feel that there is a gender divide in the AGS community?
no

8. Are you likely to feel differently about a game if you discover it's made by a female? In what way?
no not at all

9. Do you feel that AGS makes it easier for females to get involved in computer game design? In what way?
i thing they are treated the same

10. Do you feel that there is a difference between the types of games created by males and females?
a lot more thought with the story and detail seems to go into games created by females, i dunno if its something to do with the male bigotry they have to go through in life, inevitably theyÃ,  go one step better to prove a point

11. Any other comments?
the answer to 10 comes from being married for 21 years and seeing first hand the type of cr*p that gets dealt to women andÃ,  how far they will go to prove people wrong! my wife did her motorcycle test based on being told she couldn't do it, and she couldn't handle a real bike, she passed first time and now owns a GPZ500! how wrong could they be lol

i can see the point if it was a remake as a web playable version, something like monkey island 3 is do-able now in flash (OK it would have lawsuit written all over it!)

its an easy option in creating a game i guess, its easy enough to grab images from a game for backgrounds, the story is done for you, the dialog is done, its all programming
