This seems great. I have to admit that I haven never played Maniac Mansion more than few minutes, but I loved DOTT. Now if this would have voice acting on par with DOTT, I don't think I could keep my pants dry while waiting.

Yes, in Germany the media covered the problems at the Fukushima power plant quite largely, and the (actually pro-nuclear-energy) government shut down the 7 or 8 oldest nuclear power plants of the country in a hurry (in fact, they did a 180° turn in only half a day). There was also the side effect that Geiger counters in Germany are temporarily sold out (but hearing that Iodine pills are sold out in some parts of the US and people broke out in tears when they got none, this seems relatively harmless.).
Buah, Iodine pills were sold out in Finland also. :)

brought up memories of the Chernobyl disaster and its consequences for the region. Though I think only few people feared for their own health, but imagined crowded Tokio soon being in a same situation as some small village near the Chernobyl plant 25 years ago.
You mean Pripyat? Is a city with a population of 50 000 considered a small village in Germany? ;D

At least until the situation stabilized, then the whole topic got boring too and now the news focusses on Libya and the question whether it was the right decision of the German government not to vote "Yes" in the UN security council.
Actually I was wondering if the France's decision to engage in Libya was affected by this talk about Fukushima. I mean electricity in France is 78% nuclear and the state owns a large portion of most of the companies. I mean a war nicely changes the topic in the media. ;)

Finnish media has mostly been focusing on Fukushima, which is kind of sad in my opinion. Who cares about entire cities being flushed away when there is a possibility that some of those reactors might release radiation to the atmosphere that might possibly pose a health risk? I actually blame them for being biased as we have parliament elections coming up and nuclear power seems to one of the main issues (we have fifth reactor under construction). On our leading newspapers webpage there is a section titled "Japans catastrophe" where all the news about Japan has been collected. If it didn't have a short one paragraph description about the quake, you could read all the headlines and still not know there was a quake, but just a nuclear accident.

Many in the US tend to complain whether or not they know they pay much less than most of the world does for distilled petroleum, almost to the point of believing the world somehow owes them inexpensive fuel.
Of course the world owes them. So much of it comes from middle-east and US has saved them from many evil leaders and brought democracy to them as a gift.

How about a sticker saying something like "This vehicle has 6 claymore anti-personnel mines installed with electric triggers. Touching the car might break electric circuit thus activate mines. Don't gamble with your life, stay the fuck off."
What would a sticker do? Now if you would put an actual claymore next to it... ;)

The price on the sign read $3.32 for regular.
I have no idea if that is cheap or expensive? Because it is probably price for some weird heathen amount of gas. ;)
I just calculated and that's really cheap. Less than half of what I have to pay for gas.

If a sentence of speech begins with an ellipsis, is it correct to capitalise its first letter?
Quote"...maybe not."
or
Quote"...Maybe not."
?
As others have said there is no proper grammar for it. But I would go with lower case. Because how I see it an ellipsis breaks the sentence therefore when beginning the line with an ellipsis it would be continuation for the previously broken sentence and should be lower case. That is how I see it. I am not a native speaker so this could be just guessing.

My suggestion is to buy two cheap ones, and regularly mirror them. The only safety is in duplication.
Seconded. Hard drives today are so cheap that you can easily afford buying them double for you invaluable files.

Second thought: Why are the related items "Big Ass Titties Jigsaw Puzzles"?
Well, it's cheaper than this crap and the screenshot is more appealing, so I think I'll go with Big Ass Titties Jigsaw Puzzles this time.

Please tell me, how will author of the game know that translation is good or bad?
Very simple. Author has trusted the translation to a translator that he trusts. He just asks him if it is good or bad. Or even have another translator to proof read it (which in my opinion is a very good idea anyway) and asks him if it is good or bad.

But when unauthorized translation is released, author might get the info about the bad translation very late. And most of the people using the translation probably doesn't speak authors language, so it doesn't matter if he publicly states that the translation is bad or even offending, the people playing the translation think it is supposed to be that way.

If the game is turn based, I can see some problems with the current movement. For example pressing arrow key one times too many and thus losing movement points. Why not show the possible squares where player can move and then choosing a square where the player moves? Or is this movement style chosen to create an illusion of free movement?

Just a note, if your characters walk, you probably also want to "sync" the animation frames. You can do this by having identical loops on each character and then setting the frame and loop of the second character in the repeatedly_execute to match the first character.
#71
That only centers it horizontally. For vertical centering it is a bit more complicated.
#72
Do you mean that the whole content is positioned in right hand corner?
One problem I can see is that you have not defined where the content should be displayed. You have only put it in a table cell and you leave it up to the render engine to decide what size should the "padding cells" be. In my opinion you would be better off forgetting about table layouts and using divs and css.
Try dropping the main table (that centers your content on page) and replace it with a div and css that centers it horizontally and vertically. Although this is not trivial, it is a common problem and google gives many tutorials how to do this.

I couldn't get the images to have borders (missing css styles) but it could be related to the flash of unstyled content.

Well you would of course have the large image and then position the link in the middle of that. So you would have background image (static 500px x 500px) and then the part of the background image you want to change (2 x 50px x 20px = 50px x 40px).
Actually I just now read your requirement better and I can see my code isn't a straight solution for you problem.

ps. Remember that IE supports hover only on anchors.

I believe the standard way of doing this using a background image for the element that you want the mouseover effect for. This also enables you to write code that can be viewed properly without CSS.
For example like this. foo.png is 50px x 40px image with two 50px x 20px graphics on top of each other. With CSS the link has graphic that changes on mouseover and without CSS it has the text "The hover link".
Code: ags

<style>
#foo { display: block; width: 50px; height: 20px; background-image: url('foo.png'); background-position: 0px 0px; }
#foo:hover { background-position: 0px -20px ;}
#foo span { display: none;}
</style>
<a id="foo" href="http://foo.com"><span>The hover link</span></a>

The first things that came in my mind when I tested this was:
1. Why don't I have free movement?
2. Why can't I target with the mouse?

In my opinion only acceptable control schemes are either keyboard for simple (viewport relative) movement and mouse for targeting (like in Alien Swarm) or then making the crosshair be always in front of the character and let the character turn freely 360 degrees and movement would be character relative. I believe both of these should be relatively easy to implement in AGS.

I haven't downloaded and played an AGS game for years, but this made me do it. Alas, I didn't win. :(

With helmet it rally looks like just a black blob, I can't really figure out which way he is really facing. Try to put in some details that will help pointing out the orientation of the character.

It depends. If all your other inventory items are with black outlines too, then it's ok.

You might want to consider some light for the sign if you want it to be a focused item. Right now you can't really read the text on it. And besides, if this is a to the circus, the might want to mark it with some kind of light, torch or something. Also the road in your new version looks a bit weird, I couldn't tell what it is without looking at the old version.

I really like it, you might want some color in the ocean though since the night looks pretty bright, I like the monkey island sky too. ;)
Apparently you didn't read his whole post. There is no ocean, only unfinished part of the background. ;)

General Discussion / Re: Who has 5.1?
Thu 24/02/2011 07:01:46
I have 5.1 speaker system connected to my computer, but not for "computer use". I have a projector as a secondary display and the speakers are distributed around the (silver)screen. For computer (monitor) use I have stereo speakers.
So to summarize, for games 2.1 and for movies 5.1.
