Title: Troll Song - Translations
Post by: CaptainD on Mon 17/03/2014 15:37:28
I'm looking for translators - especially into German, Spanish and Russian - who are willing to help (at a later date, probably 6-9 months from now) to translate Troll Song.  Basically, what I'm looking for now is:

- PM from those interested so that I can contact them later
- A rough idea of how much it would cost

Troll Song is projected to be a medium sized commercial release, though it's not going to be particularly dialogue-heavy since... well, it's trolls.  (There will be some dialogues and other characters, but the dialogues will generally be pretty short.)

I can't speak for others Dave but wanted to make sure you're aware that a Russian translation means using special Russian characters, and SCI fonts certainly don't have them, nor do most TTF fonts. Also that the Russian alphabet is different to the English alphabet, so an "e" in the game may actually be a "g" in Russian, it's all a bit odd... Not trying to put you off, just give you some foresight - you might want to find someone who can help you with getting Cryllic fonts into AGS games which are already full of English text and fonts. I don't know who that would be, it's something we've left to other companies to do for us because there's never really been anyone noticeably capable of doing it, but possibly Technocrat and Ali have ideas about it, and possibly others. Good luck!

Thanks for the tip Mark, I really hadn't thought of the alphabet issue!  (Should have... but hadn't.)

I think maybe we'll stick to just Spanish and German then (think we have Italian covered already).  If the game ends up being successful maybe we can think about Russian eventually.

I can translate your game to portuguese, if you want.
