Title: Embedding YouTube videos
Post by: CaptainD on Wed 03/05/2017 23:10:21
Just can't seem to get this to work anymore - including the method I've previously used to do so.  Has anything changed?

Could you please give me examples here of methods you've tried?  Nothing has changed on our end, but doesn't mean it didn't on YouTube's...

I had been using [embed=640,480]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUO6jXn-DaA[/embed] - which worked fine before - but I see on my old post its only showing the link now not the embedded video.  Although it did show before... maybe it's actually something to do with Chrome? - didn't think to check in another browser before.

I note that newer YouTube videos use the URL style youtu.be but this shouldn't make a difference as long as you use the correct URL I think?  (The example above is from an old link - would be interested to know if others can see the actual videos or just the links - https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=46085.msg636464921#msg636464921)

It's due to using http links rather than https when you're loading the forum over https, here the videos work: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=46085.msg636464921#msg636464921

Brilliant, thanks Peder.

Interestingly (or perhaps not) copying the URL straight from YouTube gave an https URL, I had to change that to get the new ones to work.  Anyway they work now, thanks for your help, and also thanks to AGS

They do? I can only still see the link, not the embeb.  ???

Firefox 28.0 here.

EDIT: Tested on my up to date Firefox, doesn't work either. Maybe it has to do with AdBlock?

In your title bar does it say "https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/"?  If so just change it to "http://" and they should show.  (Don't know if there's another workaround...)

Nope, changing from https to http produces no change. Still no embed. :-\

Then I'm stumped...  ??? - at least you can still go and watch the videos if the link is there I guess.

What version is your up to date version?

Works without the s in Firefox 53 for me, on http forum.  I think the broken https version may be linked to a change I made to try to fix https images for someone a while ago.  Let me look into it.

Errmmm... okay, thought my FF on this computer was up to date, but was 45... just updated it to 53 and now it works.
Guess I'll have to live without embed on the regular computer though. I really hate the new FF, and thus don't want to stop using 28. But at one point the internet will stop working on it and force me to move on. :~(

[youtube width=320 height=240]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUO6jXn-DaA[/youtube]

Will now work:

I'm working on a script to convert all existing [embed] links to this new type, but you can also help me out by fixing your own links if you remember where you've used them!
