Title: Site suggestion: DOS download option for retro devs
Post by: edmundito on Mon 01/09/2025 13:40:01
Hello, In light of dosember (https://itch.io/jam/dosember-game-jam) and a community of DOS enthusiats, I was wondering if maybe there's a chance to make the last DOS Engine (2.62?) and Editor (2.31) available as an easy download option somewhere in the website (and maybe a pinned thread in the forurms?) Although these are not maintained and CJ is the only person with the source code, it may be of interest for those looking to making games compatible with DOS. Let's honor the legacy!

(For dosember, I'll see if I can carve some time to put a page together to offer the two versions available for download... and I'll make a Tween module compatible with 2.62)

Update: I created a repository in Github for those interested in DOS dev with the old editors. I got one person from the Dosember jam intersted and it's parked a fun conversation on the AGS Discord. Here's the repo:

Older versions are listed on the Wiki (https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/wiki/AGS_Version_history).  Admittedly most of the links are dead, but there are ones clearly labelled "Final DOS-based editor, still fully supporting graphical scripts" and "Last version to also contain a DOS engine" that you could update the links for.
