Now that was a bad movie if I remember correctly. Despite being directed by John Huston and having Gina Lollobrigida, Humphrey Bogart, and Peter Lorre in it.

Edit: Okay, this might go a bit too far back in time. But since we're now doing gratuitous shots of the lower female body, there's really no way around this one...

Ryan Timothy B

Oh dear. DBoy certainly would be in love with this movie!

Tibatonk

Would he now? I think they are lacking certain very important features. Now in these shots on the other hand...

This Film Will One Day Be Parodied in The Big Lebowski?

miguel

Is that Dick Van Dike on the...er...tiger suit?
Working on a RON game!!!!!

Snarky: Now that you mention it, quite possibly, yes. Although we never get the Dude's POV in the Coens' version. Chickens.

Miguel: Since Dick Van Dyke was seven years old when this movie was made, my guess would be no. But Ol' Zebra Cat there is really only a glorified extra anyhow. Lil' Silky Puss next to him, on the other hand, is one of the film's leading ladies. The actual star of the movie - not featured in any screencaps, so far - was, and is, actually most famous for his involvement in the gangster genre of all things.

Tibatonk

Not Yankee Doodle Dandy, but you got the star right, yes.

Eric

Well, it's definitely either got choreography by, or influenced by Busby Berkeley.

miguel

Well Mr.Eric, thanks for the tip!
Is it Footlight Parade?

Footlight Parade is correct!

The last big Warner Brothers-muscial from before the strict enforcement of the self censorship of the Hollywood Production Code in 1934, starring James Cagney. And while many of those Pre Code sound movies are not actually particularly good by any means, they still are quite interesting. Visually they already pretty much follow the formulas of Classical Hollywood, their treatment of themes such as sex, violence, and social issues, among others, on the other hand is completely different - if at times completely gratuitous. Thus a film from 1933, like Footlight Parade, just leaves you with an utterly different picture of its times than a movie produced a few months later in 1934.

miguel

Fantastic stuff indeed.
Here's a beauty:

Working on a RON game!!!!!

Tibatonk

Great, now I have to fight a terrible urge to answer that one... I put the blame on you, Miguel...

(Oh my god, I'm turning into Eric, help me!)

miguel

I knew it would be easy to both of you!
But, at least we get to look at her for a while longer!
Working on a RON game!!!!!

Eric

Well, just so I'm not totally being an Eric, that's good ol' Rita Hayworth as Gilda.

"Of course he did. No guy in his right mind wears a white suit on a shag job."
