I've just gone and seen Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Very cool movie (5 bananas) but I had to rent the previous movie Rise of the Planet of the Apes to remember what actually happened previously. I had a vague recollection of monkeys getting smart and going ape shit on the Golden Gate Bridge but couldn't remember much else. I'd also forgotten the title of the previous movie thinking it was Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (and that the more recent one was Rise of the Planet of the Apes). 'Dawn' and 'Rise' like the morning sun seem interchangeable to me. Logically the next movie in this sequence should be Morning Tea of the Planet of the Apes.

Is anyone else a fan of the rebooted Planet of the Apes series? What about the old movies? I've not seen them, apart from the Tim Burton one (which I quite liked actually).

..But more importantly, what should the title of the next installment be?

Monkey Island?

Serious suggestion "Fall of the Planet of the Apes"

Enjoyed all the films, though the Tim Burton one had some cringing moments (Charlton Heston iconic Line, and 'Ape Lincoln' spring to mind).

Of the old films the 1st is a classic, after that "Escape from the Planet of the Apes" is one of the better ones.
This has been a 'Mouse fetishist' approved message.

The first original movie scared the shit out of me as a kid. I recently watched it again with mild amusement, but the core idea still is strong.
I sorta liked the Burton remake but it made me very insecure. I mean, is it wrong to say that Helena Bonham Carter is *always* hot, even when covered in monkey fur? Get my point?

While I consider the original "Planet of the Apes" superior, I did enjoy the Tim Burton remake -- if only for the far more convincing monkey make-up. Also, I actually loved the Ape Lincoln bit, thought that was both pretty clever and a nice nod to the original story.

I actually watched a few sci-fi classics and their remakes back-to-back, such as The Time Machine and The Island of Dr. Moreau -- and while the oldies seemed dated and cheesy, there's just something about old film tape and the colors that's mesmerizing. I loved Westworld, too, and Soylent Green (both of which rumored to be remade, as well).

the first one of the originals has the best soundtrack as it is very experimental and still fitting. The story is also new and surprising (if you haven't been spoilered yet). The others are just cashcows on a franchise without the wicked soundtrack and some lame stories.
The remakes are a solid craft but not groundbreaking as the very first one was!

I only just saw the Tim Burton version just a few days ago! I even reviewed it on Twitter:

"Watching Planet of the Apes (2001) for first time. 5 mins in: "All the signals from Earth. From all of time. Bouncing around in the storm."

"#filmreview Planet of the Apes. Started of(sic) crap, got worse, but last act was kinda okay. But Ape Lincoln? Really? Best bit: Pericles 4/10"

I saw "Rise..." like 6 months ago or something, and really liked that. No one does Andy Serkis better than Andy Serkis. I really want to see "Dawn..." if it's anything like the last outing. But yeah, that Tim Burton one is a bit shit...

I think I read somewhere that the third one will be called just "Planet of the Apes".

(I never saw any of the old film series)
