Title: The "I do not have an accent!" challenge thread? (i dunno...)
Post by: MagpieBrews on Mon 21/09/2015 21:32:10
This video was made for another community I frequent, but.. well, regional accents are just so fun to listen to. So to prove to some online friends I don't have the Minnesota accent, I looked up a challenge list online and read it off. And there's such an international presence in this community.. why not invite others to youtube or vocaroo their challenge lists? Granted.. I expect an English slant to this. I can't speak foreign languages well. But well... ellipsis!

And yeah... I'm also ignoring that some have lent their voices to games and their accents are known. BUT RANDOM VIDEO/AUDIO FUN ANYWAY!

(This seemed pretty random for general. So I thought I'd put it here and invite responses in kind.)

News flash! Everybody has an accent! (nod)
And nobody believes that they are the ones having a "funny accent" or "talk wrong"... you know, it's the other people that talk funny! Not me! (laugh)

For me: living in Japan for over 20 years has made me very aware of my Australian accent when it does come through, and I'm also aware of my mish-mash of accents when I'm back in Australia. So I guess I am one of the few people who knows that they are the one talking funny and everyone else is doing it right... (laugh)

I've always found accents to be a fun thing to play with. I've tried to mimic quite a few based off of characters in movies and TV. I also do a ton of work with a number of colleagues from India, and here in Finland especially, their accents are seen as incredibly funny. :D

I've also tried my best to suppress my native finnish accent (commonly known as "rally english" due to most finnish racecar drivers having a rather thick accent).

I made a short video to showcase the differences: https://youtu.be/OV6Wsj8JZC4
