Thought this would be a fun one to add to the "name the movie / game" threads...
Guess the movie from the quote(s). Winner puts a new quote. You know the drill.
I'll start with a movie I re-watched recently:
"Libations for everybody!"
Tron Legacy, that movie was pretty good.
Quote from: dayowlron on Mon 13/02/2017 13:22:19
Tron Legacy, that movie was pretty good.
Yup. I actually enjoy it more every time I see it. Michael Sheen really hamming it up in that scene!
Your turn!
Sounds like a fun forums game!!!
Maybe to speed up the game the solver can post their next quote if they are 100% sure their answer was right, instead of having to wait for the current host to confirm it?
Also: A strict "no-googling" rule of the actual goes without saying...
Much like the Guess The Movie thread the current host could give hints about the movie like year of release, actors' names, director, etc. and these could be googled to track down the quote but not the actual quote itself?
Not trying to hijack the thread or enforce my own rules, but perhaps these suggestions might help the game run smoothly I hope.
Yeah all good suggestions, and like the Guess the Movie thread, if one quote doesn't spark people's memories the current host can post further quotes.
Also yes, if people are absolutely certain they've got it right, they can just go ahead and post a new quote.
OK then I guess it is my turn.
We've ended up in a department run by some kind of Donald Trump-Mike Tyson mutant combo.
EDIT: with no guesses first clue. movie has a love story in it but it is total action in Hawaii.
Hawaii Five-O?
I dunno, that doesn't sound familiar at all. Mars Attacks maybe?
Point Break?
(wrong) but good guesses.
Most puzzles can be solved by finding the key words in a sentence. The key word in that one is the next to last one.
no recent guesses. Another quote from the same movie.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm late for lunch. Think I'll have a chicken burrito.
The Descendants?
Or is it 50 First Dates?
(wrong)
OK, another quote from the same movie. this one is probably more helpful.
We are going to die. You're going to die, I'm going to die, we're all going to die... just not today.
I would swear that's from Gladiator if not for the other hints. I'm guessing the character was deliberately quoting Gladiator?
(wrong)
EDIT: OK another quote.
Are you ready to play with the big boys?
The Trump Mike Tyson thingy confuses me. If this weren't in here, I would bet money on "Pearl Harbor"...
(wrong) but VERY VERY good guess. Maybe you should ignore that quote and guess from the other clues.
only one more quote I will do. After this just clues until someone guesses.
Yeah, Art of War, "fight the enemy where they aren't." After all these years, that finally just clicked.
Real Steel?
Battleship?
no, but another good guess.
Mandle, you got it, was posting this while you were posting your answer.
Mandle is right. It was "Battleship". Didn't think that would be that hard. Guess I really just liked that movie a lot.
Yay! It was just a shot in the dark given the recent movie scene game screenie (laugh)
Next quote:
"...what am I gonna say? That it was my job?"
Jerry Maguire? dont know if i spelt that right.
Nope, but I think the spelling is right...
Pretty Woman
Okay, here's another quote from the same movie:
"I couldn't help it, Boss. I tried to take it back... but it was too late."
Cool hand luke?
Quote from: dayowlron on Thu 16/02/2017 15:35:20
Cool hand luke?
No, but you're right about the prison setting!
Pretty sure I havent seen the movie that the quotes are from but prison movies that I can think of:
The longest yard
Escape from Alcatraz
and
Grid Iron Gang.
Wouldn't be one of those would it?
Nope
Hmm... The Shawshank Redemption?
Quote from: CaptainD on Thu 16/02/2017 23:43:07
Hmm... The Shawshank Redemption?
Hehe... I was waiting for someone to make that guess:
Soooooooooo close!
New quote:
"Why, they's angels. Angels, just like up in heaven."
This quote should jog someone's memory I'm pretty sure:
"(Character's Name), just like the drink, only not spelled the same."
The character's name is too much of a giveaway so I'll leave it out for now.
"I couldn't help it, Boss. I tried to take it back... but it was too late."
This made me think Green Mile?
I think Haggis has got it.
Over to you Haggis. It was indeed The Green Mile.
Shawshank was soooo close, because the same writer wrote both the original stories of Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile (Stephen King) and the same man directed both of them too (Frank Darabont).
The quotes I only gave sections of were:
“On the day of my judgment, when I stand before God, and He asks me why did I kill one of his true miracles, what am I gonna say? That it was my job? My job?â€
and
"John Coffey, just like the drink, only not spelled the same."
(RIP Michael Clark Duncan. Nobody else could have ever played the role of John Coffey.)
Alright... this will be easy for those like me who think it's one of the greatest movies of all time.
"First we crack the shell, then we crack the nuts inside."
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest?
Nope
Starship Troopers?
Transformers: The Movie :=
Sounds sort of familiar but I can't place it...
The Big Lebowski?
Full Metal Jacket?
Transformers: The Movie is CORRECT!

Have you never seen it!! Correct this anomaly! Not only does it have a fantastic script but it starred judd breakfast club nelson, Spock and was orson Welles last film (apparently he wasn't impressed). It is the best music video ever made.
It is quintessentially 80's and I love every minute of it :D
Quote:
"If you close your eyes, it almost feels like you're eating runny eggs."
"Yeah, or a bowl of snot."
Now that quote sounds very familiar, and for some reason reminds me of Red Dwarf. ???
But I'm going to take a guess and say it's The Matrix, simply because I remember a similar line in that film.
Although I think I'm wrong.
The Goonies? (just because it sounds like something kids would say...)

Wow... I did NOT expect that.
Alright then, here's an easy one
Quote:
Go ahead, make my millennium.
I am pretty sure I have heard that. I am going to guess Armageddon?
demolition man?
Judge Dredd?
Bruce Almighty, when he's channeling Clint Eastwood?
All wrong so far.
WAIT is it Howard The Duck? Jeffrey Jones growls it out when he's possessed, right?
Quote from: Ben X on Sun 19/02/2017 17:38:26
WAIT is it Howard The Duck? Jeffrey Jones growls it out when he's possessed, right?
No it's not Howard the Duck.
(Although what should we do if two films just so happen to have the same quote? ???)
Does anyone want me to post another quote?
I think in that case the answer should be accepted! Multiple solutions!
However, I don't get any results for "Howard the duck make my millennium" so I guess we're not in that situation right now.
Is it a similar performance, though, an cartoonishly evil villain with a weird voice? Like Jones in HTD or Vincent D'Onofrio in Men In Black?

Yes, definitely. (nod)
Dammit, I went to double-check Howard The Duck and accidentally saw the answer. I was pretty close in more ways than one!
Super Mario Brothers?
or
Men In Black 3?
My son said it was either Nightmare before Christmas or BeetleJuice
Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Quote from: dayowlron on Sun 19/02/2017 23:26:07

Your son was right, it's BeetleJuice.
Give him a cookie! :-D
Your turn.
He is 20. He can get his own cookie. LOL. I let him pick a movie and I picked the quote from the movie but here is the next one and it should be fairly easy.
I'm doing a favor, you know. You're gettin' me for nothing, you little fuck!
That's one hell of an ego you got.
What the fuck is your problem? I did not come down here just to get jerked off.
I know Joe Pesci when I hear read him...
That's My Cousin Vinny for sure!
So here's the next quote:
"Workshed."
you were right. 1 word clue. That is gonna be tough, but for some reason I keep picturing a horror movie and not a big fan of those.
Evil Dead 2?
[embed=420,315]<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/xxFZH6naIDM"frameborder="0"allowfullscreen></iframe>[/embed]

Evil Dead 2?
Yup! And cheers to Ben X for the clip.
It's quite a famous line even though it's just one word, partly because if you look carefully Ash isn't even moving his mouth when he says it. The line was dubbed in later because Sam Raimi thought the transition to the workshed was too sudden and the audience wouldn't know where they were. He was probably right.
So, when they show this movie with all the audience participation like Rocky Horror, this is a moment when the audience says something snarky.
Cool :D I happened to read that particular line in IMDB's quote section one time and they specifically mentioned it was ADR'd.
So, try this one on for size:
It doesn't mean I don't care anymore. I don't want to let you down, honest, but... but it just doesn't hurt so bad anymore. You can understand that, can't you? Look, I can give money to the city - they can hire more cops. Let someone else take the risk, but it's different now! Please! I need it to be different now. I know I made a promise, but I didn't see this coming. I didn't count on being happy.
The Departed?
Batman?
If Dan can specify which Batman film, I'll give it to him ;)
Ooh, that's a tough one.
The Dark Knight Falls?
Mask of the Phantasm
Quintaros is right ;)
Oh, that's when he talks to his parents' graves, right? Great Batman movie.
Yeah, the animated Batman is my favourite incarnation of the character.
Okay new quote:

Sorry for the mistake, but guess my guess is wrong then. Can't think of any movies based in Africa off the top of my head. Might ask my son again if I see him tonight.

Well, we do have emus which are similar enough, and we have emu farms, so if the character was not Australian they might call them ostriches by mistake.
The movie is set in California. The ostriches never make an appearance.
Never heard the word "klicks" outside of the military. But this sounds more like some funny movie. Maybe Men who stare at goats?
Stripes?
Private Benjamin?
G.I.Jane?
It's not a military movie. Here's a quote that gives a pretty good idea of the scenario:
This week is not about me. It is about you. I'm gonna show you a good time. We're gonna drink a lot of good wine. We're gonna play some golf. We're gonna eat some great food and enjoy the scenery and we are going to send you off in style, mon frere.
Ferris Bulers Day Off?
Sideways?
Sideways is correct.
And I've never even seen it :D
Come with me, my princess. It is time to make you mine forever.
"For all eternity," idiot!
Princess Bride?
I know I have heard that before. just can't think of which movie right now.
Spaceballs?
Once Bitten?

The Mummy.
It was when the Mummy comes up to her and Brendan Frasier. There was a guy translating for the mummy and she corrected him.
Well remembered, dayowlron ;) One of my favorite movies, must've watched it dozens of times on DVD back in the day.
it was a good movie. I have seen it a couple of times.

another quote:
Anyone ever tell you that you talk too much?
Yeah, my ex-wife.
Romancing The Stone?
EDIT:
Oh shit.... is it "Good Morning Vietnam"?
Neither one but it was released around that same time frame.
It had 3 sequels for a total of 4 movies, but none of the sequels were as good as the original....big surprise there LOL

Another quote:
Why don't you just land on the fool and get it over with?
What's the matter, don't you feel like flying today?
Oh flying yes, dying, no.
Iron Man?
Superman?
I know I've heard these quotes before, but I just can't seem to place my finger on them.
Universal Soldier?
Lethal Weapon?
(wrong)
Even though the movie could not happen in real life. There was not a "superhero" in it.
Might be good to not think about the sequel clue, because none of the sequels really did very good in the box office.
My next quote that I have picked out should give it away to anyone that has seen the movie.

"Statistical fact: Cops will never pull over a man with a huge bong in his car. Why? They fear this man. They know he sees further than they and he will bind them with ancient logics." (And I'm just going to repeat the golden rule of this thread here because there might be newcomers who have not read the first page: THERE IS NO GOOGLING OF THE MOVIE QUOTES ALLOWED! You may google hints and such... For example: If the quote mentions pirates and a hint has been provided saying the movie was released in 2002, then you can google "pirate movie quotes 2002" but you cannot google the actual quote or any section of it... Cheers!)
Sounds like a cheech and chong movie so I am gonna guess "Up in smoke."
Nopers!
Dude, Where's My Car?
Naw
(I will put up another quote soon if nobody gets it, but it is a pretty memorable line from the movie, for me at least, so I'll just let it stand as is a little longer...)

The Big Lebowski?
Nope...
Cabin In The Woods?
Okay, I googled that and I'm correct! I got it from the first quote. I wouldn't have got it from the second, though I do remember it now.
So, here's my quote:
"What did he do to you, Frank? Piss on your Hush Puppies?"
The Frighteners!

Spoiler
By the dude in the underground facility when it's time for them to get to work.
By one of teens when they arrive at the cabin.
By the main girl when she pushes the big button and sets all hell loose.
I don't think I'd noticed that. Time for another re-watch!

Tootsie!
And then she throws her drink right in his face... Damn hypocrite!
EDIT: Actually I think the line from Tootsie was slightly different...something about "I'd really like to make love to you"... But still damn close enough to be stealing maybe!

Friends with Benefits?
Brokeback Mountain?
Nope and no!
Here's another:

I remember De Niro's role in that and him taking the piss about De Niro playing such as role, like puting makeup on his famous cheek mole to turn it into a heart-shape and such...
Negative all!
Let me do a more ... famous?... quote:
"Mark doesn't want you because you're mean and evil. He wants me because I am nice and sweet and pure... so fuck off!"
Fanboys?
Don't really remember the first 2 quotes in the movie but the last one I think I remember from a vampire movie.

Something about the line just sounded like Eddie Murphy and also I guess it was implanted in my memory from when I saw it at the movie theater, which is I think the only time I've seen the entire movie. I often seem to randomly switch on the movie channel in time for the last 20 minutes or so: it always seems to be the bit where Alex and the fat cop are hiding behind the low wall in the garden getting shot at with machine guns for some reason.

The Name Of The Rose?
Correct! It's Last Crusade.
Actually, sir, after all these years, I just sort of go with it.
Tomb Raider?
I'm almost tempted to guess at Rogue One...
Nope, neither of those.
I really doubt it is, but that sounds like something the Skipper would say on Gilligan's Island, but I am gonna guess something that may have had a lot of sequels.
Planet of the Apes?
Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince! Harry says it to Dumbledore when they apparate to Slughorn's hiding place.
I googled that one to check, and I'm definitely correct, so here's mine:
"You could trouble me for a nice warm glass of shut the hell up."
Probably quite easy, that one.
For some reason I keep seeing Owen Wilson saying that, but don't think that is right.

Awwwwww... I was gonna use the "check is in the mail" bit in this post...
And OMG...I only just noticed that dayowlron mentioned Kurt Russell in his post above! That's uncanny that you had the image of the actor saying the line correct without the context of knowing the movie exactly.
Also: TOTALLY AGREE about Big Trouble being an awesome movie. Pity it bombed like most of John Carpenter's films did (and pretty much anything with Kurt Russell did), but also not a pity in a way because it meant that John Carpenter never went A-List which would have totally spoiled his style IMO. And we wouldn't have all the cult classics we have today.
Okay next quote:
"Kill yourself, David, ..."
Could be a wide range with a short quote. I do know in An American Werewolf in London there is a quote of :
...Take your life, David. Kill yourself...
EDIT: looked up the full quote I was talking about:
The supernatural, the power of darkness â€" it's all true. The undead surround me. Have you ever talked to a corpse? It's boring! I'm lonely! Take your life, David. Kill yourself... before you kill others.
"The undead surround me. Have you ever talked to a corpse? It's boring! I'm lonely! Kill yourself, David, before you kill others."

John McClane: Asshole? I'm not the one who just got butt-fucked on national TV, Dwayne. Now, you listen to me, jerk-off, if you're not a part of the solution, you're a part of the problem. Quit being a part of the fucking problem and put the other guy back on!
Correct, Mandle!
Not exactly the scene I thought it was, but happy I got it!
Next quote:
"No, there's no way that's correct."
Supergirl?
Naw
Flubber
Nope.... next quote:
"I'm a mess without you. I miss you so damn much. I miss being with you. I miss being near you."
I miss your scent.
Anchorman!
I miss your musk.
Correct!
(and the first quote is right after Ron says "...they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.")
I'm trapped in a glass case of emotion!
Next one:
"Is there air?! You don't know!"
Galaxy Quest!
The legendary Guy Fleegman!

The legendary Guy Fleegman!
Aw crap... I was just coming in here to guess Galaxy Quest!
Galaxy Quest is one of my favorite movies as far as sheer entertainment value is concerned (major issues with HUGE plot holes, but I put that aside and just enjoy the ride).
Anyway here be thee next one...
"No? A lot of people hate this hat... it angers a lot of people, just the sight of it."
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull?

I only posted one quote?
Either way it
is from the legendary movie
Uncle Buck. John Hughes' finest (in my opinion).
Oh, I see where I got confused. I never saw Ben X say that Galaxy Quest was correct.
That was really just a guess.
...Right now I've got a few words for some of our brothers and sisters in the occupied zone: "the chair is against the wall, the chair is against the wall", "john has a long mustache, john has a long mustache". It's twelve o'clock, American, another day closer to victory...
Red Dawn?
The Longest Day?
In my humble opinion, in the nuclear world, the true enemy is war itself.
I know I know that one but can't think of the movie right now so gonna throw out a guess.
War Games?
Oh wait...I remember now.
Is it Crimson Tide?
Dawn of the Dead?
dayowlron got it for sure!
I wonder if anyone here knows who did the rewrite on the script for Crimson Tide? It's quite surprising, although the scene about The Silver Surfer comic is a bit of a tip-off.
@Mandle
Spoiler
I know, right? Mr. Q-Tips did some really strange rewrites in the movie history :)
OK, so here goes. probably be guessed pretty quickly. if not from this clue then from the one I have picked out next.
No. I want her to be happy, no matter what that means. I want her to find someone who will treat her with all the love she deserved from me. I want her to meet someone who will see her always as I do now, through Your eyes.
Blade Runner? (with apologies to Ponch (laugh) )
(wrong) Think I will do this quote instead of the one that would totally give it away.

A surprisingly good (and hilarious) movie!
Here we go...
"Go back to Jersey, sonny. This is the City of the Angels, and you haven't got any wings."
Doubt I am right but I am going to guess Angels in the Outfield?
Nope (wrong)!
Here's another...
"I admire you as a policeman - particularly your adherence to violence as a necessary adjunct to the job."
Lethal Weapon?
(wrong)
"Whoever killed my partner, is still out there. I... If I could work cases like a real detective, I could prove it. But I'm not smart enough. I'm just the guy they bring in to scare the other guy shitless."
I am pretty sure I have not seen the movie you are looking for but I will throw out another guess.
Hollywood Homicide?
Nope, but you're closer!
Here's a hint:
The director of the movie died last year.
Sin City?
Don't know of any directors that died last year other than Guy Hamilton so I will guess Live and Let Die?
Some really great guesses! All wrong, but great (laugh)
Here's another quote and another hint:
"Off the record, on the QT, and very... hush-hush."
The movie is a period piece, but wasn't made in the period represented.

Your third guess is correct, Mandle, but I'll need the film name obv!
"Yes, of course, you may absolutely bring the brewskis."
Kickass?
or
Top Secret?
(trying to remember all the movies I've seen a car compacted in)
Ah, well, you don't see a car get junked onscreen, but it is from a scene at a junkyard.
"The gypsy woman placed a curse upon my head. Because I'd smelt it, she decreed I would forever more BE HE WHO DEALT IT."
Mystery Men!

Team America?
That sounds like it could come straight out of a movie version of Sam & Max if they ever make one!
Nah, it's part of a longer-running franchise than either of those.
That's from Star Trek VI The Undiscovered Country.
That is indeed correct :=

Okay...well shit...now unexpectedly I have to come up with a quote...
Erm...
"Hold out your hands. Lemme see your hands!"
Dirty Harry?
No, but the movie does have lots of shooting and quite a high body count...
Naked Gun 2?
(Only guessing that as I remember the body count total coming up in one scene with it claiming to pass other famous films' totals)
Also, strangely enough for my own quote I had been thinking of doing Dark Star but changed my mind to do Silent Running instead.
Robocop?
Scarface?
The good the bad and the ugly?
just trying to remember a lot of movies with a lot of shooting.

The hands quote was because the only part of the robots they hadn't quite got looking realistic was the hands for some reason. And so this was the way to check if someone was really human.
The quote about the girls was the barman talking about two hooker robots in the Western World saloon.
And the last quote was part of the introduction announcement when the tourists first arrive.
Oh yeah, and Peter Weller copied Yul Brynner's walk and mannerisms from Westworld for his role as Robocop.

Another thing I have never seen that I just happen to recognize the quote from :D
My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds- pretty standard really. At the age of twelve I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum... it's breathtaking- I highly suggest you try it.
THAT'S DR. EVIL!!!

just a clue: try what I do with a lot of these quotes. say them faster or slower until you hear it like it was in the movie. If you read the last one a little fast and with a little sarcasm in the last line it may help. (may not).

A hint;
The quote I posted is the type of quote (historical) that it is possible it might be in other movies.
I am not going to guess because I am not sure of the movie, but I do know of a famous person that said that for real. Perhaps they were quoting it from that person in the movie?
Actually take that back. looked it up and even though he is credited with saying it he never really did according to the website i found.

Not a bad guess but went back in time a little too far (another hint)!
Here's another quote:

From what I consider one of the funniest 2.5 minutes ever put on film: The Dentist Song! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOtMizMQ6oM)
Your turn, mate!
I love that movie.
Ok, let's do something easy:
"The darkness must go down the river of night's dreaming"
Quote from: CaesarCub on Thu 13/04/2017 13:22:00
I love that movie.
I just recently watched the original ending, the most expensive ($7M I believe) cut scene of all time, and IT'S SO MUCH BETTER than the theatrical ending.
I recalled reading in a film magazine back in the '90s about this scene, which only showed a few still images, and the writer's hope that one day the footage would see the light of day...Then I thought, "Hey, I bet it's on youtube!", and I had a wonderful 15 minutes reliving the magic of the movie as it should have been.
I also LOVE Little Shop Of Horrors... It's one of those things that no matter how down I feel about life at any point, I can always turn to and it makes me feel that if people can make such sheer FUN, then there is always hope!

It was on the extras of the DVD version I owned, really fun.

Pretty sure it's another musical with horror in the title: Rocky Horror Picture Show
You are correct Ben X!
Not too easy this one, I think:
"Then it's down with the textbooks..."
"And up with the comics!"
Summer School?
Weird Science?
Bill And Ted?
Fast times at Ridgemont high?
American Graffiti?
American Pie?
Animal House?
Monsters U?
Revenge Of The Nerds?
(laugh)
No to all of those.
"Man or a woman? Man? Man, okay. Uh, Walt Disney?"
"Cheddar! Owwww! Cheddar Whiz-age!"
Wallace and Gromit?
No, but it is animated and does involve dog characters!
Mr. Sherman & Peabody?
No, it's almost 20 years older than that, and 2D.
"It's Dork and Dork Junior!"
All Dogs Go To Heaven?
Dumb and Dumber came out about that time
The Aristocats?
Lady & The Tramp? (1 or 2)

More than 20 years before Sherman And Peabody.
However, it is the correct animation company.
The Perfect Cast. My dad taught it to me when I was about your age. Okay now, watch carefully. You gotta be loose, relaxed. Keep your feet apart. Now, ten o'clock, two o'clock, quarter to three, tour jeté, twist, over, pas de deux, I'm a little teapot, then the wind-up... and let 'er fly!
Oh....It must be then:
The Goofy Movie!
(But are Goofy and his nephew actually confirmed dogs?)
Incorrect, it is A Goofy Movie. But gawsh, I'll let ya have it!
And I know the Stand By Me scene but yes they are dogs. Just because Pluto exists doesn't mean Goofy isn't a dog - plenty of lower mice, ducks etc exist in that world too! (Also, Max is Goofy's son, not nephew.)
I wholeheartedly recommend this movie, it's a little-known gem.

I've just never thought of Goofy as a dog, I guess... He's just a...Goofy. Kinda the same way I've never thought of Gonzo as any specific kind of animal.
Anyway, this one should be instantly recognizable:
"What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?"
I know I have heard that one.
I would guess Stripes but I did that one a while back.
Ferris Buellers Day Off?
American Graffiti?
(wrong)
That's definitely Animal House ;)
"Germans?"
"Forget it, he's rolling."
(nod)
Over to you!

I think it's Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and the Native American Joe Pesci agrees with me.
Well, if you look "right" in a dictionary, you'll find a definition of that word, which you are ;)
"They're only noodles, Michael."
THE LOST BOYS!
(One of my favorites of all-time!)
Correct, dude!
"Ninety years ago, I was a freak.
Today, I'm an amateur."
No guesses?
Okay, some more quotes then, all from the same scene but you might have to work out who is saying what:
"What's your name?
Herbert...
...Wells.
What was that?
That was a very cute man.
That was a pickup.
Against bank rules.
I don't care
At least he's not gay.
Plus, I love the way he talks."
I can't tell if nobody can guess the movie, or if nobody is even looking at this thread, but here's some more quotes:
"Herbert!
What did you do?
I sent him to where he belongs.
Infinity.
That's the last anyone will hear
of Jack the Ripper."
I was looking but didn't know the movie. Time After Time?
Quote from: Amayirot Akago on Sat 22/04/2017 15:18:28

Correct!
Worth a watch! Quirky H.G.Wells vs. Jack The Ripper time travel story (yeah, that old chestnut), with Malcolm McDowell as Wells, and David Warner (he's that dude that played the British baddie in like every movie for a while) as "Jack"... Perfect casting and surprisingly well-written, plotted, and researched for such an outlandish story.
Aye, was familiar with the premise, but never seen it myself. Guess I'll have to check it out sometime.
I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time, I'd rather not spend the rest of this winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!
The Thing?
That's the thing indeed ;)
That moment when you come in here and a line from one of your favourite movies has already been answered...
I'm lucky! I only saw that movie a couple of years ago. It's a great movie, but the remake/prequel isn't worth your time.
Here's one I just watched recently:
I don't care! I don't care what you want! I don't care why you woke me up! You took my life!
Heaven can wait?
Awakenings?
While You Were Sleeping?
Some good guesses here, but no to all. Here's another quote:
Attention: You may wish to proceed to a viewing area. The Avalon will slingshot around the star Arcturus.
Silent Running?
Dark Star?
I haven't seen it, but it sounds like something somebody told me about the movie. So...
Passengers?
Waaahahaaha! Darth Mandarb got it! Congrats!

Anyway, here's the next...
"If I didn't know you better I'd think you have the feigned indifference of a man in love. Go on son. Tell the truth and shame the devil."
True Romance?
Interesting guess but, sadly, not correct!
"I think you mistake me for one of your easy court companions?"
"No, no... I mistook the asking in your eyes."
Dangerous Liasons?
Moliere?
Robin Hood: Men in Tights?
Another quote and a hint:
quote:
"If I were yours alone, your property, chaste and silent, you would soon tire of me."
"You're wrong!"
"Am I?"
hint:
Mandle was half correct...
Based on your clue... Cruel Intentions?
Dangerous Beauty?
It seems to fit the period of the language in the quotes at least...
Quote from: Mandle on Thu 27/04/2017 14:25:59Dangerous Beauty?

Highly under-rated movie in my opinion!
Sweet!
Okay next quote:
"Did you know your last name is an adverb?"
C'mon guys.... a character with a last name that is an adverb?!
Okay, here's a quote then that I think might be a giveaway:

Johnny Dangerously?
I was only joshing you as well (laugh) No disrespect intended.
Quote from: Quintaros on Fri 28/04/2017 16:52:39

YES!!!
Probably the only movie hero that ever had an adverb as their last name!
And also probably one of the greatest "walking the line" between all-out parody, and a movie that actually has a plot you can get involved in, of all time...
Except for possibly another one I have in mind...
But over to Quintaros for the next one...
I've never seen it and always assumed the title was more of a nickname than actual last name. I had to remind myself of the difference between an adjective and an adverb though, lest I suggest "Johnny Hansome".
New quote:

Not a Hangover movie.
Planet Of The Apes? (one of the many?)
Every Which way but loose?
or
Any Which Way You Can?
Nothing so far.
"Think about the spider, Cole. Try to do something like that again."
Three Monkeys?
Are you messing with me, man?
Huh? 2008 movie Three monkeys?
Or could it be Thirteen monkeys?
11 Monkeys
An Infinite Number Of Monkeys Writing Shakespeare?
A Dozen Monkeys?
Ohhhh, you guys. Take it away, Ron.
Really? it was 13 monkeys then?
I will put up a quote in a little bit. kinda busy at the moment.
EDIT:
start with something that is a bit more generic:
I'm fighting, for something that's real for the first time in my life! then forget that.
He said Take it away Ron, and I had guessed 3 Monkeys first and he thought I was kidding with that guess. There have been movies called 3 Monkeys and another movie called 13 Monkeys.
Yeah everyone was dancing around the answer so I just went with the first joke guess. Didn't realize Three Monkeys was an actual movie until later.

Yeah, it wasn't "A dozen monkeys" either.
Didn't realize there was so many movies with monkeys in the title, but i did find 3 monkeys, 12 monkeys, 13 monkeys on top of monkey shines, monkey trouble, monkey go home, monkeys paw, the monkeys uncle and monkey business.
It is one of those!
Sigh, it's 12 Monkeys!
Now if I'm right, I give my turn to whoever wants or deserves it.

*looks it up* No, but I can see why you'd think that :D
"And yes, in case you're wondering: I am a southpaw."
Pacific Rim?
No, but this is a similarly big summer action movie.
Godzilla?
Maybe not quite that big :D
Eyesight similarly improved. Subject no longer requires corrective lenses. This is no longer about curing ills. This is about... finding perfection.
Transcendence?
RoboCop (Remake)?
Battleship?
No, but Kumpel is sorta right, it is a superhero movie.

"Yes, it's a real knife."
"My weakness, it's small knives!"

Is that a guess?
Yes. Is it "Fletch"?
no but there is a connection.

He was apprehended.
He was apprehended after he surrendered.
He didn't surrender to me, therefore he was apprehended.
He was going to surrender after dinner. I told him to wait in the kitchen.
And did you stay in the kitchen?
No, I had to serve dinner.
You were serving dinner to the district attorney and his wife?
Uh-huh... and the Governor.
The Governor? OUR Governor?
I didn't ask him. He *looked* like our governor.
Your Honor, if we're going to get into such trivialities like our guest list, we might as well discuss what was served.
Chicken pepperoni, your Honor. The Governor seemed to like it if it has any bearing on the case.

Character B: That's a lie. I bribed the guy at the CIA. I *blackmailed* the guy at the FBI.
The Other Guys?
Nope.
I've left a character name in this quote that might give it away...
Character A: You're a very valuable commodity. Think what the Libyans would pay for your knowledge of American Intelligence. Or the Chinese. Or the Colombians. I think quite a lot of money, Mr. Blue.

Nope.
No other guesses? Here's another quote that should have enough clues for fans of the movie.
"One of the things I love about Venice, is that it's so safe for me to walk. The sound changes, you see, as you come to a canal. And the echoes from the walls are so clear... My sister hates it."
Don't Look Now?
Correct
Here's mine:
"Ah, Venice!"
Well that's just Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Ha ha ha, well done! My next one would have been "Our project leader believes that tomb to be located within the city of Venice, Italy".
Your go!
Is this thread dead?
Quintaros was online a few hours ago, so perhaps they've just forgotten it's their turn. Give them a PM?
why not jump in until then? :P
"It's not that kind of a movie."
Well, call me a big old cheaty cheater, but seeing as Quintaros still isn't taking his go and Kumpel isn't giving any more clues on his, I cheated. The quote is from Kingsman: The Secret Service. Really fun movie, but I'd somehow forgotten that line.
Here's a new one, if no one minds: "You don't get to get sucked up into heaven 'cause you were being petty. Tom Petty."

I'm pretty sure that's The Architect from Matrix 3
I'm going to guess The Matrix Reloaded (i.e. The Matrix 2).
You'd guess correctly, Ben ;)

The Silence of the Lambs?
Interesting guess but no.

Ahhhhh of course. It was Agent Smith, not The Architect... D'Oh!
Ha, I didn't even realise that, I just knew the Architect was mainly in Reloaded, not Revolutions and so I thought there was a chance you'd guessed the right character but the wrong movie!
Thanks for the boost!
That looks like Matthew Broderick and Jim Carrey so I would have to guess The Cable Guy
This is the quote game, not the clip game! That video was for Mandle because he helped me boost off his guess to get the previous answer!

Wow, nothing? Okay, here's one more:

Ace Ventura?

cool.
next quote:
Whatever happened to chivalry? Does it only exist in 80's movies? I want John Cusack holding a boombox outside my window. I wanna ride off on a lawnmower with Patrick Dempsey. I want Jake from Sixteen Candles waiting outside the church for me. I want Judd Nelson thrusting his fist into the air because he knows he got me. Just once I want my life to be like an 80's movie,...
Crap... I've seen this but can't remember...

Fan Boys?
Deadpool?

Sounds kinda familiar but it's not really ringing any bells... so, I'm going to guess one I haven't actually seen (but it sounds like it might have dialogue like this in it... maybe?!) - Kate and Leopold.
(wrong)
(it wasnt a really popular movie. I saw it on TV a couple years after it came out)
another quote from the same movie:
George is not a sexy name. George is like what you name your teddy bear, not the name you wanna scream out during climax.
Ted?
I'm telling you, these quotes sound very familiar to me, but I can't pinpoint where!

I will start posting some quotes that will be a little less misleading.

No, he told me the truth.

Goodbye, Evan.
Wait! Wait, I can pay you!
I am about six seconds away from slapping you so hard your *teeth* will bleed!
Can you do it in front of everyone?
Easy A?
Sweet! Here's an easy one: "That ain't no Etch-A-Sketch. This is one doodle that can't be un-did, homeskillet."
Beetlejuice?
The mask?
Huh, I guess not so easy. Neither of those!
Sounds like something a Stephen King character would come out with. Am I close?
Little Shop Of Horrors?
The Nightmare Before Christmas?
(It sounds to me like something Audrey II or the Ooogie Boogie Man would say.)
All no, and despite the running theme in these guesses there's nothing supernatural about this film (except the first name of the screenwriter).
Damien Something?
Close but wrong gender.
Carrie Fisher?
Diablo Cody is my guess.
Damienette.
Ooh, both good guesses by Mandle and Kweepa: one of them is correct! (Stupot is going to the circle of hell reserved for those who make comedy guesses.)

Inspector Gadget?
Diablo Cody -> Juno?
Quote from: Danvzare on Tue 05/12/2017 11:47:37
Inspector Gadget?
Neither Carrie Fisher nor Diablo Cody was the writer of Inspector Gadget.
Kweepa got it: it's Juno. I'm really surprised that it took so long and the name of the writer before anyone could get this!
I've never seen it - I just know the writer by rep, and her rep is as the screenwriter of Juno :)
So, anyway...
"Nowhere special. Always wanted to go there."
To be honest, you could have just added Juno onto your initial Diablo Cody guess, especially as I ruled out supernatural (and therefore Jennifer's Body).
For your quote, I'll guess Serenity.
It's not Serenity.
Blazing Saddles?
dayowlron, yep! Well spotted!
Really, Thought either Cleavon Little or Gene Wilder was talking about going nowhere special at the end. Cant tell you which one of them said it without looking it up.

Scrooged.
Correct that was Scrooged
"There's more of gravy than of grave about you."
Damn, I know I have seen that movie, but if I was to guess I would say that is just another line from Scrooged when he meets the final ghost.
A Christmas Carol?
Well, the answer I was looking for was "Jim Carrey's Christmas Carol" but I'll give it to you, Mandle ;)
dayowlron, the Scrooged equivalent is when he says to the ghost of his old boss, "you are a hallucination brought on by alcohol... Russian vodka poisoned by Chernobyl!" I love all the clever little modernisations in that movie.
Sweet!
Okay next. I'll stick with the Christmas movies theme:
"I'm not allowed within 50 feet of him."
Die Hard 2?
"I'm late for a cult meeting."
Dragnet?
The 9th Gate?
Nope.
Thank you for the books and for the horrifying story and... for the threat upon my life.
Argh, that sounds so familiar! It's not one of The Mummy films, is it?
Maybe one of the Avengers movies?
PS. the line "There's more of gravy than of grave about you." is actually in the book A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and is such a good line that is has been in a lot of remakes of the story.
I was also thinking of The Mummy, though I have a vague inkling that it could be from The Spiderwick Chronicles.

I did, mate. Just thought I'd take a shot in the dark in case Zemeckis was somehow attached to Scream in a way I was unaware of.
Many people have won a round on a long-shot and you still only have to type "No to all" or whatever so it's not burdening you as the round-mod.
And what's the problem with a bit more participation anyway, even if it's wrong?
I don't remember the line in the movie, but the context would be funny.
So my guess is 'Cast Away'.
Contact? Just before Jodie Foster drops into the device?
Mandle: no burden, no problem, just trying to keep the game moving forward. Sorry if it sounded like I was snapping at you.
HanaIndiana got it - Chuck says it just before he gets on the plane. I thought it was pretty funny that the "I'll be right back" rule highlighted in Scream a couple of years earlier was bleeding out into other genres.
Woohoo! This next movie, I seem to quote quite a bit.
"Dear Diary, my teen-angst bullshit now has a body count."
Heathers?
Yep, you got it Ben X!
"Well hey, can I have you both?"
"Sure! We've had our shots!"
Austin Powers?
Nope.
"You call this a glitch?!"
RoboCop.
"Somebody wanna call a goddamn paramedic?!"
(that's not the next one, just another quote from the same scene ;) )
Affirmative!
Can't think of a good one so here's an easy obvious one.
"Piss off, ghost!"
Hamlet? :P
Thor Ragnarok!
Assuming I'm right, here's mine:
"I'm more like the Terminator than you!"
Ben is right, of course ;)
Hooray, now everyone can start guessing at mine!
Huh. Okay, here's another quote:
"Me and this fat kid.
We ran we ate and read books.
And it was the best."
It (2017 version)?
No (and not the miniseries either!).
A couple of clues:
Note the amount of syllables per line in the second quote, see if that jogs your memory.
This round has a very strong link to the previous one.
Deadpool?
Sorry for the delay. No, it's not a superhero movie.
"Kingi you wanker
You arsehole I hate you heaps
Please die soon in pain"
Sounds like "Misfits - The original Cast returns for this one and only awesome movie".
Kingsman?
Kingi isn't the kind of name you'd typically expect to hear in UK stuff like those.
Also, as the strong link to previous isn't Marvel or superheroes, what could it be?
And does anyone remember watching a film where they come up with haikus?
Seriously, two of those are big clues even if you haven't seen the film. Here's another quote anyway:
"Come on, have some breakfast, then you can run away."
You say the name 'Kingi' is a clue that it might not be a UK thing, but 'wanker' is a very British insult. So my guess is somewhere else they say 'wanker' like Australia or New Zealand, (maybe South Africa?). Definitely not America, unless they're doing a poor impression of a Brit or Aussie.

Boom. Unfortunately, I don't know many Kiwi films outside Peter Jackson's back catalogue... I'm pretty sure it's not Lord of the Rings, somehow. And I know Bad Taste almost word for word. It's not that.
That film with Sam Neill and the kid hiding in the woods? (this description makes it sound like Jurassic Park (laugh))
I can't remember the title right now. The hunt for... something?
It's from New Zealand and has a strong connection to Thor Ragnarok, I would have thought that would be enough even without all the quotes! Thankfully Lorenzo has provided some massive extra clues...
The Hunt for the Wilderpeople.
Correct, it's Hunt for the Wilderpeople! The director of that film, Taika Waititi, not only directed Thor 3 but also played the character that delivered the "Piss off, ghost!" quote. I recommend both films, along with two more of his, What We Do In The Shadows and Eagle Vs Shark.
Yeah good movie. I was about an hour into it before I even recognized Sam Neil.
Next quote:
"Next time, Chiefy, you just ask me which rope to pull."
That must be Jaws!!!
Correct. I knew someone would eventually recognize this.
Don't check this thread very often but immediately when I saw that I just felt JAWS :-D ok another one coming right up. Should be quite easy.
"We just cut up our girlfriend with a chainsaw. Does that sound...fine?"
Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn?
Absolutely! :-D
OMG one of my favorite movies of all time and I didn't check the thread?!
Well, that ain't...
Groovy.
"You heard her, she said take your meathooks offa her... please..."
Blazing Saddles?
Nope.
"You caused 300 bucks damage to my car, you son of a bitch. And I'm gonna take it out of your ass."
Back To The Future!
Next:
"I love you."
"I know."
(Could be from more than one movie but I need the specific one for a right answer)
The Empire Strikes Back.
I do seem to remember Princess Leia saying "I love you" and then Han solo says "I know."
I believe that was in the Empire Strikes back.
EDIT: dang just missed it. so gonna guess Return of the Jedi just in case.
Can confirm Mandle is correct, well done! I tried to go for less well-known quotes from a very well-known movie.
I'm going to guess The Phantom Menace just in case.
The lines are indeed originally from "The Empire Strikes Back" but that is not the movie you are looking for (Jedi mind trick)...
The lines are used as a reference to Star Wars but the movie is not a part of the Star Wars franchise.
The actor who says the line "I know" is in the original Star Wars trilogy though.
How about Indiana Jones then?
Quote from: dayowlron on Thu 11/01/2018 03:11:18

No, and it's not Harrison Ford that says "I know".
Another line from same movie:

Blue Harvest?
Fanboys?
Quote from: Ben X on Fri 12/01/2018 22:56:50
Fanboys?
You got it!
The original line was said by one of the main characters to Carrie Fisher who played a nurse that let him escape from a hospital.
He said "I love you"
And Carrie Fisher replied "I know" and then they kiss.
Pretty good movie actually especially for spotting Star Wars/Trek cameos and just enjoying the whole tribute to the original trilogy in a setting before the prequels started the slide downwards...
I would have guessed that from the first quote but I only remembered it having Shatner in it, I forgot how many cameos it has (Star Wars and not).
"There's always a bigger fish."
Okay I'll start with the most obvious guess- Jaws?
No, I try not to do repeats.
The Phantom Menace!
Correct!
"From then on I knew... God doesn't make the world this way. We do. "
Wolf of Wallstreet? :-\
No...
Another line from the same character:
"Never compromise, not even in the face of Armageddon."
Watchmen.
Over to you!
"Bunny, ball-ball!"
Hudson Hawk?
Bingo ;)
"You can go to hell, hell, hell"
Time for a hint I guess :-D It's a wild west movie.
Tombstone?
The Quick And The Dead?
Nope, sorry! Hint 2: It's based on true events/real characters
There Will Be Blood?
Nope!
Unforgiven?
3:10 to Yuma?
The Assassination of Jesse James...?
No no and no :D The main character was rumored to have killed 21 men if my memory doesn't fail me ;D
The character must be Billy the Kid, then!
I don't know about the film, though.
I won't just name all the Billy The Kid movies, so... Young Guns (or Young Guns 2: Blaze Of Glory)?
We have a winner :-D It's Young guns 2. Billy's response to the judge after being sentenced to death. I just love that scene :-D
"Isn't... this... religious?"
"Fly, bitch!"

Hansel & Gretel: Witchhunters?
Face Off?
Die Harder?

Your go, dayowlron. Or, as Castor Troy would say, "Fly, bitch!"
OK, I will do a quick one.
All that hate's gonna burn you up, kid.
It keeps me warm.
Moar quote or hint please.
This game got put on hold for a long time. well here is another quote from that movie which may give it away:
Right now I've got a few words for some of our brothers and sisters in the occupied zone: "the chair is against the wall, the chair is against the wall", "john has a long mustache, john has a long mustache". It's twelve o'clock, American, another day closer to victory. And for all of you out there, on, or behind the line, this is your song.
Good Morning Vietnam?

Iron Eagle or Air America?
Very good guesses but not those. Came out around that time though but earlier.(wrong)

Here's a great movie full of great quotes. Probably won't get to post a lot of them:

No.
"Our Germans are better than their Germans."

"Dear lord, please don't let me fuck up."

"The man who had, in his life, uttered fewer words than any of them, knew exactly what to say."
What the Deaf Man Heard?

Seems sort of familiar but I can't place it...

Ah yes, that classic that goes:
"The man who had, in his life, uttered fewer words than any of them, knew exactly what to say."
"Get away from her, you bitch!"
Kill Bill?
Here's a line from just a few moments before the first one:

"So the 7 little dwarves had a limited partnership in a small mining operation. And one day a beautiful princess came to live with them. And they bartered housekeeping services for room and board, which was a real good deal for them because they didn't have to withhold social security or income tax or nothin', which you're really not supposed to do, you see, but for the purpose of the story, I think it's okay."

I was trapped in an elevator for two hours and I had to make the whole time. But I don't blame them. Because one time, I turned into a dog and they helped me. Thank you."

Okay, it's Ghostbusters 2. I should know.
Back in the 80s a friend gave another friend and I a book of free movie gift vouchers he stole from the theater when they fired him.
The tickets were only good for another 2 weeks and the only movie worth watching was Ghostbusters 2.
As we lived in a slum hotel with no TV or anything at the time we went and saw Ghostbusters 2 every night for 2 weeks.
(After the 10th or so time I came out of the theater and was semi-hallucinating the bad-vibe-slime coming up through a street grate.)

(This is the girl.)
Damn! Correct! Your turn ;-D
I watched it for the first time only a few months ago... Well, actually... I got all the way through it for the first time only a few months ago...
And The Cowboy's scene is very memorable. Lynch does love his otherworldly characters who talk in a slightly off way just enough to make us feel they might not be exactly human and/or might have access to knowledge beyond normal humans. And I love that too. He should have been the one to make the movie of The Mothman Prophesies now that I think of it.
His daughter is no slouch either at making films too. Her movie Surveillance is a great suspense piece even if you could see dad's hand guiding hers quite a bit. In a way it's a fairly unknown "David Lynch" film or at least the closest Lynchesque film ever made.
Anyway, next quote:
"How do you feel?"
"Better."
I'm sure these lines have been used innocently in countless films, but in two films they have been used implying a deeper, more disturbing meaning, that the person has actually been improved somehow and is now "better" than a normal human being in some way(s). One of these instances is actually in the movie and the other is from an unused ending from the movie.
So, yeah, the answer is two movies but only guessing one is acceptable.

Yes! One of my favourite scenes from him is the absolutely
terrifying conversation with the Mystery Man in Lost Highway. The way he takes the camera and turns the scene from a lighthearted party to one of the most unsettling scenes ever in the history of cinema simply by zooming into the characters' faces and lowering the volume of the music and ambient sounds still gives me goosebumps every single time:
"We've met before, haven't we..."

Surveillance is really good! I haven't watched anything else from her though, not even Boxing Helena (apparently it's really bad, so I've never felt like I was missing out on anything.)

Ehhh... Robocop... 2? It sounds so, so, so familiar but I can't put my finger on it.
Lynch's Dune is one of my favourites. It's not easy material to adapt. Many have tried.
I'll just guess: Superman? Pretty sure I have seen this film you describe.
It's not any of those.
And yes, the party scene in Lost Highway is second only to the Diner scene in Mulholland Drive for jarring terror in everyday surroundings.
A Clockwork Orange?
Nope
Hmm...I'll try a few more:
1984
One of the many Frankenstein movies (Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, etc)
Ghandhi
Naw...
Barmaid, more quotes!
Yeah we need a little more to work with here!
Is it The Royal Tenenbaums?
Both are movies about people going through extraordinary transformations from human into something else.
A quote from the movie poster of the one where the lines appear only in the alternative, unused ending:
"Like father, like son."
The fly 2?
Oh, yeah.
I actually don't remember the quote(though it's very likely something to be said in the movie), but that tag line is just so recognisable to me.
I don't have any idea ATM, so this place is available for stealing.
Yep, let's call that one over.
The other movie was Transcendence. The worker is asked how he feels after having his wounds repaired by the nanobots and he says "Better." in an ominous way.
In the unused ending for The Fly 2, the main character has run away with the love interest and they are at a seaside cafe or something and she asks how he feels.
He turns to her and says "Better." and we can see that one of his eyes hasn't turned back to human.

"Nazis. I hate these guys."
Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade?

Yup! An amazing reference I only got on a second or third re-watch of Shaun Of The Dead.
Nick Frost shouts it into the phone when they decide to go rescue Shaun's mother and kill his step-dad who has been bitten. His mother's name was "Barbara" specifically to be able to get this line in the scene.
