This is a game I invented and ran in a game forum years ago. As it was quite successful I'm resurecting it here:
The rules are simple:
Each time a new round starts I come up with a new secret rule/set of rules for that round.
Participants post some text (please limit to 2 lines max per post). The text can be anything, but actual sentences are cooler than just strings of characters.
I then give each post a number of points based on the secret rule/rules for that round.
The object is to figure out the secret rule(s) and post the correct answer first.
Please begin such solution posts with "SOLUTION:" to avoid confusion. Oh, and also please only post a single solution at a time and wait for the host's reply before posting another. Multiple solutions in a single post will be ignored.
A basic example:Player A's post: The pope walks into a bar and orders a drink.
Host's post: 5 pts
Player B's post: I don't understand how to play this game. Can you explain again?
Host's post: 7 pts
Player C's post: SOLUTION: One point is given for each letter "a" in the post.
Host's post: Player C is correct! New round starts!
This was only a basic example for clarity. Actual rounds will get more complex than just counting up a certain letter.
Feel free to post even if there are already posts waiting on scores: I will get to them all together.
At first I think I will run the game as Host for a few rounds until everyone is up to speed and then open it up for others to host.
ROUND #1 BEGINS NOW!The Leaderboard below shows how many times the player named has won a round:

I'm also going to try to keep track of every rule-set that has been solved so there is not a lot of repetition:

Round #1: One point for every two-letter word.
Round #2: One point for every letter that has a tail.
Round #3: One point for every common noun.
Round #4: One point for each "h" added to another letter if that changes its pronunciation.
Round #5: One point for every word containing three or more different vowels.
Round #6: One point for each consecutive letter in alphabetical order, spaces disregarded.
Round #7: One point for each time the last english alphabet letter in the previous non-host post appears in the post being scored.

I had to point out that further testing would disprove their solution and therefore it is not a win. Thankfully this community is much smarter than that one was and I probably don't even need to be mentioning this...So I now go shut up my face...)

Uhm. How do you determine 2 lines? How many characters are there exactly? Cause I can fit it 2 lines... actually 1 if I stretch my browser window enough.

Vague Answer:
Spoiler
It's whatever two lines looks like on my setup. The main reason for the rule is that when I last ran this game somebody posted an entire chapter of a novel and expected me to score it. When I said "no way" the person called me out for breaking my own game rules...Obvious troll is obvious right? But I learned my lesson...And seriously, is there any need to post more than a simple sentence or two which will never exceed two lines except to troll the game host? The character count for two lines also varies due to font and the fact that characters take up different amounts of space. Does anyone really want to count up all their characters to make sure they are within the limit or just let common sense rule for now...?

CORRECT!!!Spoiler
Well...also combinations that became silent were not counted (for example the "gh" in "though"), but I think it can be argued that your words "changes its pronunciation" cover this in that such cases do not have a pronunciation so it could not really be said that the pronunciation has "changed". It's semantics but it works for me! GOOD WIN!!!
The point where I screwed up and had to change two scores kinda acted as a potential major hint in that:
Spoiler
The word in both cases that I screwed up on was "characters" as I was adding the scores in a hurry and forgot to consider the pronunciation of the "ch" (silent ch) which was why I had to subtract a point in both cases...Sorry for that again, but the fact that it may have provided an unintentional clue moreso than hindering the round made up for it a bit I thought (laugh)

Note that this post scored 1 pt for the "th" in "the" and gained no points for the silent "gh" in "fought"...
The only inconsistancies were due to me being an idiot on the word "characters"...
I think you were joking but I really don't want anyone to feel they were cheated out of a win. I'm trying to run the game as if I'm a computer program with really solid and unbreakable rules so that everyone can see at the end of the round why their answer was not the right one or the complete one...And I'm not going to add something like "CLOSE" when somebody gets a partially correct answer because I think that takes away from the pure logic of the game and the players should have to get their hints purely from the scores. Of course I do screw up on the scoring now and then which annoys the shit out of me as well...

There's gotta be some external factor that we're not considering here. Either the user, or the metadata attached to the post.
Errrrr. All this quoting, etc. will probably make for a hard post to add up for points, so I'll just run it over 200 characters to make sure that no one gets confused. Oh...and there might be one case where the points don't add up: AnasAbdin's list tally. If the next post's score does not make sense that's because the list was edited
after scoring.
For now I'm going to message Stupot and AnasAbdin. I'm thinking Stu deserves to host first if he wants it. If not then AnasAbdin will be host if he wants it. I was thinking it might be cool if those two alternate as host for a bit: swapping every round, or every second round, or whatever...
I'm pretty sure both wish to give it a go but if not then I will be in contact with Wyz...
So until all that is sorted: A brief break!

Yeah...I think that it deserves real kudos for you that you realized that every player-post mattered: Even solution posts and EVEN the ones that exceeded the posting limit...(Trivia Corner:
EVEN the final player post from before the round even started was used to score the first post of this round...)
Batman...HAHAHA...I totally thought Stu had it nailed when he posted the whole "nanananananana" thing but apparently not...
Special kudos to Baron as well for calling out the fact that something other than the individual posts themselves was affecting the scores... Very scientific!!!
Consider this sentence me entering the game.
Okay. I'll host for a round.

Don't think your data is helping, but then again I'm new at this.
Solution: The points awarded for each post is the numerical difference between the character count of the first word in the post and the last word in the post.
(For example: "lots we" = the numerical difference between 4 and 2 = 2pts)
BOOYAH!!!
Uhm-.. then Baron should have gotten -2 ... we - data = 2 - 4 = -2 :P
Yep Mandle is correct. It's the difference in the number of letters of the first and last word.

@Cassie: 'difference' doesn't necessarily mean 'x - y'. If y is larger than x then it will be 'y - x'. It just means 'how many digits (or letters) do I need to jump to get from x to y or vice-versa?'

Frankly I'm no wiser than I was several pages ago. I'm pretty sure it's nothing to do with word count, letter count, punctuation or grammar. Which means it's some other evil trick. :-\
Unless we somehow get more points for very long messages, which is pure evil since finding the solution in these posts would be difficult. Oh well, gotta try, don't we? What's the worst that can happen? Will we blow up? No! 50 years from now we'll look back at this and laugh, and laugh, and laugh, and still won't know what the bloody rule is. By the way, what happens if I say (laugh)? Or ?? Well, let's see what comes of all this.
Hmmmm...a ways back cat got 1 point for saying "Cassiebsg" but Cassie just got 2 points for saying the exact same thing. So there is either a difference in points from user to user or something is changing over time...
Yeah I think it has little or nothing to do with the actual text we are writing.
It's probably the cross sum of all letters. Or the posts on every page even add up.

If you want hints I'm ready...
Personally, I really don't see the point (no pun intended) of hints in this game: The mystery will be solved via the hints a bit faster than it would have been solved normally, and everyone who participated will go away feeling like a cheap route was taken to get to the answer. Even if you hide the hints the winner will know that everyone will just assume they looked at the hints even if they didn't: Thier glory is tarnished. And then, once the mystery is solved we just move onto another one anyway. It's not like an adventure game where progress stops while you are stumped: Progress is made with every new score update. It's just a matter of how long it takes for somebody to get that "click" moment where everything fits...Hints will just cheapen that moment for the winner.
And especially after the round has gone on this long I personally have no desire for any hints. I'm invested in solving it and hints would just destroy my interest in continuing to try. Just the way I feel of course...

Hahaha!!! AWESOME WORK CASSIE!!! You said this game makes you feel stupid and then you solve the round that had everyone stumped for forever!!! (You a hustler, Cassie?)
I also considered the AGS thing at one point, and spent ages trying to connect characters in the post with characters in the username, but never thought to make the post and the username one entity. I even tried a few more outlandish methods, which I won't say here as they actually gave me good ideas if I host future rounds. I guess trying to solve a round like this probably gives everyone new ideas as well as their own attempts become more and more fringe.
And finally: Cheers AnasAbdin for a great round! I hope your phone recovers from its OCD issues at some point...

Congrats, Cassiebsg! I figured out that the nickname was included in counting, but I'd never have guessed the hidden AGS.

Starting from Cassie's post
Cassie: 6
Anas: 3
Cat: POST EXCEEDS MY BOTHEREDNESS TO COUNT :-D
Anas: 0
Mandle: 8
Baron: 3
Solution: The points equal the count of the most repeated vowel in the post. If no vowels are repeated the score is zero.
I aaaaaaaabsolutely must know if I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaave the correct aaaaaaaaaanswer!!!
Mandle: 33pts ???
Mandle: nope
Mandle: 33 pts

So yeah, clearly you're onto it but your solution isn't what I have in mind
Solution: 1 point for how many times the first vowel of the previous poster is repeated in the post?
(just riding Mandle's wave... )
Cassiebsg: nope :-)
Bah...nevermind
Solution: The points equal the total count of whatever vowel is first repeated in the post.

Well, it's obviously something to do with vowel counts. The vowel depends on some external factor since the same posts result in different counts for different people. For some reason it's usually A, but it sometimes could be E, I or U (was there an O?). It's hard to tell what the external factor is because we keep using phrases with the exact same number of A's, I's & E's, or E's, I's & U's. So let's work together and everyone post something with a consistent number of vowels so we can isolate what we're dealing with here. Something like:
Canada Banana Everest even if Illinois zoo fuzz butt why? (6 A's, 5 E's, 4 I's, 3 O's, 2 U's and a Y for good measure)
Canada Banana Everest even if Illinois zoo fuzz butt why?

Solution: 1 point for each occurrence of a vowel in the post following the alphabetical order, if the poster has this vowel in his/her user name. If the next poster doesn't have the next up vowel in his/her name, stu starts counting again from "a".

YES! Well done Cassie.
Right from the beginning you got it in your heads that it was to do with vowels, and true most of your nicknames have a vowel in the second position (that was the 'wrong squirrel' I was trying to gently steer you away from) but Anas was the key as his username has a consonant in the second position.
Cassie, which is the one that doesn't fit? I hope it's not a game-breaker that led everyone astray :-/
Whichever one it was, it certainly led me astray.... (roll)
Ahhhhhh...Well done again Cassie!!! Yeah...I was thinking that with Anas it was the "i" that was being counted but I even noticed that it wasn't counted in his post "wait what?" but did not follow through on thinking about that more clearly. Tunnel-vision is easy to get in this game I have noticed.
Awesome round!
Well done Cassie :-D

Yeah I was thinking the same thing so I posted two identical messages one minute apart and the score went from 3pts to 4pts. This had me thinking that it's all about the time you post at and I tried many calulations on the time stamps but couldn't get it to perform consistantly. Solution: One point for each character that is either a circle or a straight line.
Cat: I can see by your last two posts that you have figured it out. So: CORRECT!!!
The puzzle was: Any character that looks like binary code gains a point, and as "oO0l1|" looks like binary code I will overlook the fact that you probably should have said "a vertical straight line" as I'm sure that's what you meant.
No time right now to update leaderboards and such, but I will get on it...
For now: Cat, do you want next round or, if not, who does?
Yay! I wasn't thinking of binary, but the shape of the character. Baron's LOL gave it away.

Solution (though I'm not sure how best to phrase it): One point for every word (or string of letters, even if it is just one letter) which, when spoken phonetically, contains only vowel sounds (or semivowels such as /j/).
Stupot+: 5pts
Stupot+: No
Solution: 1 point for every word where there are more vowels than consonants?
(haven't checked all posts, and don't know if Y is counted as a vowel or a consonant... cause if it's a vowel, then it doesn't fit in one of the posts I checked, mind you).
You got it! Congrats Cassiebsg!
It was fun to see you all going in wrong directions first and then finally getting closer and closer.
Thanks :) had a feeling the "a" was the right point in that huge sentence...
Anyway, y isn't a vowel, right?
According to Merriam Webster, it depends (http://beta.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/vowel).
I have learned at school that vowels are a, e, i, o, u, so I went with that.
Are you starting a new game?
Ah good, that's what I learned too, but since English isn't my first language and we didn't even had Y on our alphabet back then, I wasn't sure.
Someone else please take it :), I don't have the time to count points (and would most likely miscount them anyway).
Ahh damn. I knew it was vowel-related but didn't quite hit the nail in the head. My theory worked on Mandle's 11-pointer, so I was pretty confident I was on the right track. Oh well. Good work Cassie.

That's almost the solution.
1 point for every ^ form you can take out of the letters in the post including username. This is destructive, so taking away 1 ^ form from x leaves only 1 ^ form over, taking the < out of z leaves - and so on.
I don't think that's what Cassie is aiming for. (S)He said "still one-point-rule, so every letter can get only one point. But our ^ theory prooves, that x and w should get 2 points each. Or am I misunderstanding you, selmiak?

Cassiebsg: 4210 points
Solution: One point for i(I), 4 points for iv(IV, maybe "iV", "Iv", "i v", "i V" and "I V" too...), 5 points for v(V), 9Points for ix(IX and so on...), 10 points for x(X), 40 points for xl (XL...), 50 points for l(L), 90 Points for xl(XL...), 100 points for c(C), 400 points for cd(CD...), 500 Points for d(D), 900 points for dm (DM...), 1000 points for m(M).
That better be right! :P
The "i" in killers shouldn't effect the following "l", so it should be 1+50+50. I don't see any other troublesome combinations. ^^
so the score should be:
500+1000+1+500+10+1+50+50 = 2112

9 and 3? so it's gotta be the reply number. Thats the only thing that changed between the posts. Even/Uneven maybe.
Or

this is irrational, that's because it is :-)
Irrational?!? This is downright crazy!
It's either got something to do with the reply number, or it's got something to do with the exact date and time, which you can only see when you quote someone.
And in either case, I have no idea how you're coming up with these numbers. Are you running some sort of algorithm using the individual numbers on the reply number? Are you counting the horizontal and vertical lines on the reply number, and using the result as part of some sort of algorithm? Are you looking up the number of notable events on Wikipedia for the year that corresponds with the reply number?
I have absolutely no idea!
I simply can't figure it out.
Unless of course you're just coming up with random numbers.
Is that the answer? Are you just coming up with random and meaningless numbers?
Answer: The score is the nth digit of pi, where n is the reply number. So 3 for the first reply, 1 for the second and so on.
Boom. Well done Gurok. Did you get my clues along the way (circle, constant, infinite, irational)?

Are you counting every word and sentence that appears both forwards and backwards if you remove all spaces?
nope, I counted characters... there are 12 and meet at the middle by one single f, so I'm not counting the f, spaces, or punctuation... I did however no check if there's some other hidden "msg" into Kumpel's nick or msg, or counted "words+reverse"
i guess it's something about words that have reverse words inside them. And maybe two combined words are also counted as one word (which makes my sentence countable in the way it has been counted)
But I have the feeling Gurok is missing some words. I'll check that in my next posts.

Punctuation does not count, just like palindromes. For instance,
Madam, I'm Adam.
Full stops, apostrophes and commas don't matter.
Your emoticon contains wtf in text form, and so, shifts the centre of the palindrome.
YEEEEEZ Guroks way of declaing point rules is way to elaborate for me. I have still no idea when a word counts and when not. My sentence "Boring I Know" reversed contains the words rob and won. So why didn't they count? and which other words in my 3-points-quote

Does anyone have an idea?!?
So the two points in "wait! emoticons count minus?" are emoticons = tome and minus = uni?
You gave so many clues/hints (or the solution?) that I'll risk trying to formulate a solution for you. :P
Solution: 1 point for each character matching a palindrome. Counting from the center of the sentence each character that is in the same place ... and the last point that was eluding me was the center character, that can be read from left to right and right to left, as I only counting when there were two matching characters... (roll) spaces and special characters do no count.
Correct, Cassiebsg! Congratulations!
Basically, yes, one point for every character matching a palindrome. My definition was: one point for each time a letter or number can be found equidistant from the beginning and end of the message (not counting spaces or punctuation). With that, I was counting the middle character if there was one.
To illustrate:
Madam, I'm Adam
madamimadam
######
6 instances of the same letter/number occurring the same distance away from the left as it does the right
= 6 points
Now I know what makes an easy/difficult puzzle when it comes to these things. Thanks everyone for staying with it. It was fun... in the beginning.
Okay, next puzzle, Cassie!
YESSSS finally! Cassie I raise my hat off to you ;-D

let's be fair, Danvzare was the first to mention or even notice palindromes... and Guroks tons of clues... including the "shifts the centre of the palindrome." was what gave it away... the rest I had help with a Wiki... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palindrome , cause I wasn't sure what the rules were for a palindrome. Does it really reset?
When I see a post score more than 9, then I'll say... no. :P
solution: the post has the same amount of points as the last digit of the thread's number.
(wrong)
solution: first post gets 2 points. the next 7 each one point more. resets after the 8th post (9 points) back to 2 points for the next first post in the row. and so on
Solution: isn't it just a cycle 1-9? So basically, the number goes up by one for each post as long as it's in single digits.
Bear in mind cat is counting her own posts, but obviously not giving herself a score.
Yeah you are right. The cycle is 1-9 but this is exactly what Cassie said, isn't it?
Yeah. I think cat and Cassie just have slightly different mental images of what's happening.
Maybe cat sees it more as a constant cycle rather than something that is reset. Like a watch doesn't reset to 12 o'clock every midnight. That's just the next number in the cycle.

:P
Kumpel: 1pt
Solution: We need to guess cat's exact wordings for the rule to be accepted... (laugh)
Cassiebsg: No.
You just have to figure out the rule that is applied to each individual post.
Solution: the points for each post are always one number higher than those post preceding it, except when the post preceding it got 9, in which case you get 1.
Stupot+: No.
I see a squirrel approaching!
Solution: First post = 1 pt, 2nd Post = 2 pts... 9th Post = 9 pts... 10th Post = 1 pt... (roll) Included are hosts post in the counting.
8 points?
Cassiebsg: No. (I mean, that's what happens, as you have figured out, but it's not the rule)
Stupot+: 8pts (and I figured that out, without checking the points of the previous posts...)
Solution: first you take sum of all the digits in the reply number (1+4+7+7=19) then take that number and keep adding them together until you have a single digit (1+9=10, so do it again, 1+0=1) so the answer for this post is 1
Hooray! ;-D
The name for this calculation is digit sum (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digit_sum).
The rule was simply "The digit sum of the reply numer".
So, Stupot+ is next (nod)

It must have to do with the posters name and at least the first letter of the post. Cat's posts where way lower than Cassies. is it because she has just three letters and Cassie has 9? I also think it is not a puzzle of math but a puzzle of where the letter is in the alphabet. But it is not a simple transfer of the letter's number or at least not only that...
Cassiebsg: 0
Kumpel: 54
Solution: Position of the first letter in the alphabet times the number of letters in the poster's name.

Solution: is ut the number of words in the first line of your post + the time difference between the host's location (Germany) and the poster's location?
(Just stealing Stupot's line and idea...)
Cassiebsg: nope, stupot+ has been closer ;)
Solution: is it the number of words in the first line of your post minus the time difference between the UK and the poster's location?
Because I have no idea what the solution is, and I figure I might be able to figure it out by just changing small aspects of the solution that Stupot+ came up with.
Danvzare: nope. Wrong turn!
Solution: Number of words in poster's post + difference of location time to the previous poster

No worries, we're just making wild guesses cause we still haven't figured it out... (laugh)
Solution: The number of words in the first 'sentence' plus the time differrnce between the UK and the poster's location?
(I don't think it's GMT. But then there's other questions like 'do emoticons count?' And whatever else)
OH MY GOD HE GOT IT!
Congratulations Stupot+ :)
It's my bad I forgot to consider the summertime/wintertime thingy. My idea has been GMT and every timezone higher getting it's bonus points, every time zone lower getting there equivalent minus points, but first thing was, nobody from america wanted to do my points game so you guys never got confronted with that and second thing was, that of course atm the it is not GMT in the UK, like I thought it was. So I accidently used BST the whole time :D

Now I just want to win a round so as to be able to include the exact coordinates of the International Space Station at the time of post and/or the wind speed at Ohare Airport (This was actually a factor in a very old and dear to my heart mystery game I ran in a different forum)...

Hahaha.... no, there is a solution, and a pretty simple one as well. And by "simple" I don't mean that it's easy to solve, just that the method of determining the points is not complex.
And your paradox only works if one accepts that "there is no solution" can be counted as a solution, which I think may be a logical falsity... :-D

I don't get it, why did Stupot got 2 points,that's still a mystery. ???
Solution(in progress): My theory is that the points are slowly accumulating to 100 through 2 ways, each time someone made a post, one point will be added to the overall score. And there is also a timer where each time 15 minutes (I'm just guessing the number) has passed 1 points will be added to the overall score. Once the score has reached 100 it will reset.
But maybe there's more to it since Stupot got 2 points, because we both made the post at

SOLUTION: My theory is that the points are slowly accumulating to 100 through 2 ways:
The reason why Stupot got 2 points last time and I only got 1 point with the same post is because Stupot made the post after I post twice in a row. I'm guessing if I had post 4 times consecutively, anyone else that post after me will gain 4 points which will be added to the overall score.
I'm guessing that since the person before me posted 1 time, I only gain 1 points and each time I post something it will be refer back to how much the previous person post consecutively, meaning if the person before me made 2 post and and then I made 4 post consecutively, I will gain 2 points for each post that I made.
There is also a timer where i'm guessing each time 10-15 minutes has passed, 1 points will be added to the overall score. Once the score has reached 100 it will reset.

Wrong, I'm afraid. It's not even nearly that complicated. The correct solution can be described in a sentence or two.

Let's figure this out one by one, I made the same post as stupot and only gain 1 points from my post, it shows that anything stupot said in the post wasn't affecting the score, but when he decide to post it.
We both made a post at 13:02, I made the post first before him, so if he gains 2 points was because of time, I would have gotten it instead of him. The only thing that was out of norm was that I posted twice in a row if that has any significant

Hey. Did we really go the whole of the last round without any squirrels?
It's been a while, but squirrels are pointers in the right direction from the host if I remember?
I wouldn't do anything like that unless my round got so ridiculous that I realised that it couldn't possibly be solved without hints in the right direction...And I would feel bad for having to do that as it would tell me that my rules had been unfair and had been flawed from the outset... For me, the game has always been about the players fighting against a host who should act like a machine in how they dole out the points, and the host's rule should be simple and solvable without any other feedback other than the bruteforce post-then-points feedback...
For example: My last round was quite hard to solve it seems, but all it really needed for someone to solve it was for that person to click on the "quote" button above a post and look at the numbers, which I felt someone would figure out given the feedback of resetting every 100 points but not within any kind of logical time frame: It only depended on how often anyone else posted on AGS forums. I was a bit disappointed that the strategy of posting a lot of posts within the same minute did not lead to more confusion by somebody just happening to post on another thread in between, and then the count would have jumped by 2 instead of 1... That would have been funny to see...
(Cassie this is just a reflective post and no need to do the point count if it's too long ;) ...You know the game as well so you probably saw what I just did there though...)

Okay... I got a theory, but haven't figured the rule yet...(roll)
EDIT: Think I have it now!
Solution: The subtraction of the 1st and last letter in the post. Each letter in the alphabet gets the points of it's position in the alphabet. A = 1 pt, B = 2 pts, ... Z = 26 pts. :-D
Nice one Kumpel! You got me totally confused!
By Jove, I think you done it 8-0
Yep! You got me. You only missed the fact that I wrote the absolute value of this subtraction. This way the points go up even if the first letter is a smaller number than the last one ;)
Your turn!
Guess I could have written "the biggest value minus the highest" or "negative points, lose the minus and became positive" ;)
I was the a, d, t post that gave it away.... once I understood how those scored, it was just finding the right rule... 1st I thought it was the 1st and 2nd letter of the post... but after checking the other posts I realized that wasn't it.
I haven't thought of a new rule, so anyone feel free to jump in. :D Otherwise I'll think of a new rule and start scoring tomorrow... ;)

1 pt for which quote?

Now I am totally lost to what it could be.

Okay so I am noticing a pattern. When I divide the number of words by the number of letters in the username, and round down, quite often that is the number of points. But some posts don't count for any points for whatever reason, and there are some exceptions like Kumpel's scoring of Kumpel's old post.

had a look at this thread yesterday and the latest challenge baffles me too. Perhaps it has something to do with the "last" total points of a given user, rather then any attribute of the users nick its self. There "seems" to be a pattern of subtraction and addition from the last points total of a given user depending on the users reply. I am probably way off but just maybe this long paragraph might help lol

I guess the hint that I will give is that most of the posts follow a certain rule and there are a few outliers. Find the usual rule first, and then figure out why some of the posts are so different.
Another hint: The username itself is not used in point calculations.
I am pretty stumped dude, is it something to do with post number + unique words or letters that a user has said in context to something else they said in a previous post? Stumpted
Tycho Magnetic Anomaly: No. (25 points.)
Further hintage: The minimum score is 0 (though usually 1) and the maximum score is 676.
You will have to look outside of your own post to figure out the solution..
That's a lot of points 8-0
I think I'll begin giving hints every 24 hours so to not hold up this post on just mine :P
Alright so the hint for today is that the maximum number of points (676) is 26 x 26, which is important. How could the number 26 be related to word puzzles, I wonder..
Cassiebsg: 20 points
Morgan LeFlay: 25 points
Morgan LeFlay: 130 points
Sorry, I don't do math
Well first off when u mentioned the maximum score was 676 I knew that was 26 x 26 and with 26 letters in the alphabet it would be something related to the alphabet.
Also seeing a lot of scores of 20, 25, then your 156.
20 = 10x2 or 5x4 or 20x1.
25 = 25x1 or 5x5
156 = 12x13 or 26x6.
Assuming you did not mix up the letters and A=1 to Z=26 or the reverse A=26 to Z=1, the easiest one to figure out would be 25. that is either AxY, ZxB, ExE or VxV. hmmmmm.
My 156 was actually 130.
Oh, ok. well 130 is 13 x 10 or 26 x 5.

I believe it is the product of 2 numbers. One of the numbers is the maximum sequence number of the letter in the message where a=1 and z=26. I have not been able to figure out the other number, but I am thinking this message will score 26 since I have a "z" in the message.
Tycho Magnetic Anomaly: 25 points.
dayowlron: 26 points.
You're correct that the 26 comes from your "z". The multiplier is taken from something outside of your own post.

Is it maximum sequence number of the letters in your post multiplied by the minimum sequence letter of the prior post?
Morgan LeFlay: 20 points
dayowlron: 250 points
dayowlron: 375 points
And correct!
The solution: The smallest letter of the previous post multiplied by the largest letter of your post.
Huh. Nice work, Dayo! And good puzzle Morgan. It's these deceptively simple ones that are the most satisfying.
Well done, dayowlron! :)

Once upon a time there was a point, that was mystical and mysterious, some people tried to solve it, but only one figured it out.
SOLUTION:
Multiple 1: Counting from the left a number of spaces equal to the last letter's value
Multiple 2: The maximum number of letters found in sequence starting from A? (So a found anywhere is 1 point, ab 2 points, abc 3 points, etc.)

I want to figure this out so I am not giving up. seems like most of the words that give points are four letter words. Wondering if that is some sort of clue.
dayowlron: 13 points (good luck, then!)
Can I get one clue? Basically want to know if there is a minimum number of letters that have to be in a word to score a point?

As such the word that I had previously assigned 1 point I will instead be assigning 0. Editting posts accordingly.

You got a problem if even you can't decide what gives a point and what doesn't... :-\
One thing is counting wrong because of an error another is not being in accordance with your own rule... :P

reviving the thread...
but I think we do need another hint. every rule i think of seems to have at least one word that should or shouldn't have scored a point do the opposite. just tell me if all letters are taken into account or just specific ones like first and last?
It has nothing to do with the letters of the words. It has to do with the properties/definitions of the words themselves.

Yes, that is correct!
Full solution: 1 point for every word that could either be a noun or a verb in American English.
Sorry if this one was too hard, it seemed that everyone lost interest so I kind of needed to hint.

At first I was thinking words that have certain consonant combinations, but not all of the words I guessed scored points so I'm not sure what more specific criteria I should be looking for.
I am noticing that a lot of the words can be rearranged to form other words, or remove 1 letter and form other words, but beyond that not sure.

Is it: one point for each word that forms another word if you remove the first and last letters?
Darn, I was pretty close if that's the rule.. I guess oint is a word, just not one defined by dictionary.com
Except "oint" is not a word so "points" doesn't make sense.
Also "hin" is a noun but that might have just been overlooked for the word "thing": an ancient Hebrew unit of liquid measure equal to about one and one half gallons (5.7 liters).
Klatuu is correct and oint is a word according to http://www.thefreedictionary.com/oint
and I guess I did miss hin. oops.
