Title: What's is the exact word ?
Post by: proximity on Mon 14/03/2016 00:04:47
Hi guys, i'm having trouble to find the right accommodation name for the building in my game. It's a private home and has 4 rooms for guests. Owner of the house rents those rooms. So, what is the exact word for this building ? Guest house ? Hostel ? Bed and breakfast ? Pension ? Inn ? Which one is appropriate ?

I believe that would be guest house, depending on how many meals they serve. If it's only breakfast it's a B&B.

I think an inn is a public establishment, and a hostel typically offers very sparse accommodations (not private rooms). Didn't know "pension", had to look it up, but it seems to be a european word for what is more or less a guest house.

Guest house and pension are both perfect words for the building you are describing because they are simply hotels without any special services but room cleaning. Hostel is partly fitting too, but Jack Lucy is right that it usually provides only a bed and maybe some stowage (but I have been to hostels which provided smaller rooms too).
