I have a bottle of rum and no cola. What else could I mix this with?
Wildberries. :-D

Lime and cinnamon... (roll)
Actually orange juice works pretty nicely.
brown sugar, soda, 1 small bit of lime juice, lots of mint, stomp it, add some ice
Thanks to this thread I now read "rumpus room" as "rum pus". Ehh. :-X

Not much to be honest. Rum (white rum, that is) and soda water is a bit...well...
bleurgh, to be honest. Even if you stick some lime in it, it's still kind of...
bleurgh.
Rum works best in a good ol' Mojito-type affair, imho.
Just make sure there's no wolfsbane involved ;)
IMHO lime sucks, it's only cheaper than italian lemons that are more tasteful.

It should perhaps be made clear what type of rum we are talking about here... My orange suggestion was with navy or spiced rum in mind, wouldn't really work with white rum.
water it down into grog for those long times at sea.
And I heard that if you mix lime and cinnamon in the right ratio (don't ask me) you get cola taste... (roll) Never tried it so can't attest for it, but the judges (it was that big baking off TV contest) seemed to agree that it did in fact taste of cola. (roll)
Why is the rum gone?

What about eggnog? Doesn't the alcoholic version have rum in it? Eggnog is one of my favorite drinks, but it's a hard time finding it after Christmas.
Other than that I would suggest some kind of fruit juice. Pineapple would probably work well. Maybe also coconut water. Make yourself a Piña colada.
Adding a dash of it to a cup of black tea would be quite seasonal.
Mojito!!
If made correctly so good...
Thanks dudes. I've been using lime juice and ice, which is great. Will try some cinnamon with it next time!

With yet more rum, obviously.
Speaking of mixing rum with rum, anyone following John McAfee (of McAfee antivirus fame) on Twitter? Wow, that guy drinks rum like no one I've ever seen!
Late to the party.
Which label was it?
I usually buy Mount Gay (recommended by a guy I met from Bermuda, so I assume he knows what he's talking about?), but right now it's a big bottle of Captain Morgan Spiced Gold. The 'Gold' variety includes a very strong vanilla flavour to it, which makes me wish I had gone with the regular Captain Morgan Spiced. Anyway, still tastes alright direct in a bunch of lime juice with ice. I also tried it with some extra ground cinnamon, and that was pretty good too, but in future I think I'll mix it up in a blender because the cinnamon doesn't really dissolve, so it looks kind of gritty when you're drinking it.
By the way, I know nothing about rum, so if any experts out there want to share some advice please feel free!

Nice. I am no expert, but I always found rum to be overwhelming on its own (flavour and sweetness).
