AGS Engine | Mouse | Trackpad / Touch-screen laptops with no mouse can't start AGS games |
---|---|---|
AGD2 | Running AGS games on a new Windows 8 touch-screen HP laptop with a trackpad (no mouse plugged in), results in the following message when trying to load the game: "No mouse was detected on your system, or your mouse is not configured to work with DirectInput. You must have a mouse to play this game." The game doesn't load after the message is clicked away. This issue is going to become increasingly problematic as touch-screens become more prevalent. | |
Radiant | Oh, good point. Also, note that several older AGS games, particularly non-adventure games, don't require a mouse in the first place. While well-intended, this check is really not necessary. | |
AGD2 | Quick update: Plugging a mouse into the laptop in question allowed the game to run. But as Radiant said, AGS games probably shouldn't require that a mouse be present in order to launch. | |
Crimson Wizard | A side-question, how do you play the game without a mouse? Is it keyboard-controlled game, or AGS receives touchscreen input? | |
AGD2 | I'm not sure about the game Radiant was referring to, but in our case, the laptop is a touch-screen, so in theory, any AGS game could be played without a mouse by just tapping and dragging your finger across the screen, like on a tablet or smartphone. | |
Vector Vendetta and Indiana Rodent are both keyboard-controlled (this also goes for a number of non-adventure games by other designers), and most of our adventure games can be controlled entirely with hotkeys and the arrow keys. |
