Lens Flare

The Lens flare is a lighting effect that imitates the optical phenomenon that occurs when directing a camera into a bright light. The frequent use of lens flare in order to quickly make a picture look professional has made it a term for amateurishness. Wikipedia offers a more technical explanation.
