AGS's original title, when first released in version 1.0 was Adventure Creator, which was completely a suite of DOS programmes. In the AC era, the editor was called Roommake, which operate a bit differently from the recent AGSEdit (for example you paint on walls instead of walkable areas). The last version of AC was Version 1.14, after that, Chris Jones revamped the editor completely (which became RoomEdit), and so the Version number jumped to 2.0, and the whole suite had its name changed to Adventure Game Studio.
