Well, they finally went and made a remake of Oldboy. Directed by Spike Lee no less. Do you think it will be any good? It's got Samuel L. Jackson in it so perhaps it won't be so bad. In typical Hollywood style they've gone and altered the story, though. But then they would have had to, to make it a 'successful' Hollywood movie. But it does look worth a watch.
What do you think?

Here's the new trailer:

In case you haven't seen the original - you should totally go watch it asap.

Don't watch either trailer if you haven't seen it, also go watch it right now.

And I think the remake looks pretty good.

I do wonder to myself a lot about films...WHY DOES THIS NEED A REMAKE?! But then I see the remake I do tend to enjoy it (mostly). Like when I first heard they where doing an American version of Infernal Affairs (into The Departed), the Asian film fan-boy in me screamed! But when I saw The Departed, it was good!

The original film by Park Chan-wook is very good, I enjoy all of his films, though be warned they are super surreal, super violent!
The original Oldboy has one of my favourite fight scenes (where he fights a ton of guys with a hammer in the corridor.), what I liked about it was that it wasn't over the top: no wire-fu, no cheese.

Stupot

Interesting. I hope they do the original justice. It's one of my favourite Asian films.
I'll no doubt watch it.  I'm not one of these people who automatically hates any remake or adaptation of something just because he's a fan of the original (though Hollywood remakes of Asian films are generally inferior more often than not, I still give them a chance).

Yeah I pretty much agree. I do get this "bloody Hollywood going and ruining another movie with some stupid remake" feeling when I see stuff like this, but this one does look rather promising. I'm just glad it doesn't star Will Smith ( not that he isn't good at what he does, but that would suck and it was a rumour ages ago).

once I was against Hollywood remakes but recently they are really getting better. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo comes to mind especially. I'm not saying all remakes are getting better than the original, but they get better in capturing the essence of the original and even improving on it. The Evil Dead Remake is also said to be good but I haven't had a chance to see it yet.
So I think I'll see this flick right after watching the original again before.
