We have achieved a dedicated server, You may now use the beta version of the game and converse with users online. "Recommended only for devs and people interested in beta testing."

This looks good! i'm sorry i couldn't help with the art, Now i'm working on my own qfg style project called, conquests of a hero

Construed

Thanks T, Its no problem about the art, I'm glad to hear about another QFG style project, make sure to use all your own content with it so it can truly be yours, Were adding hints of nostalgia from qfg and a similar graphics style as say  qfg 3-4 but we don't want to mimic it too closely and be considered copy cats so were using random hints of likeness from all different versions and other sierra games too.

Send me a PM or something if you need help figuring out anything for your game, Have a blessed day my friend,
-Jared

TGames

This is cool, i tried out the game. When I try to enter the home it doesn't work

TGames

Never mind, i tried to interact with it when I needed to just walk to the door

Construed

Lol, that was you I saw in the game, I was wondering!
Thanks a lot for stopping by!

I've done a quick test play and I like so far what I've seen. There are a few glitches but I guess it's all in line of work in progress so keep up the good work. :)

I really like to see a multiplay adventure game because it makes it a social thing and I'm curious how that works out. So good luck!

btw, A few pages of the website gave me a 404 :(
Life is like an adventure without the pixel hunts.

Construed

Thanks WYZ!
Please report any glitches you see at the grim quest forums if you have time.
Yea, there's some 404's on the website because I've been having problems with java, so I disabled the java chat until I make a flash based one.
It's a shame you didn't download the game a little later, I saw you on the server as I was updating the new version. "GQ1_8"
I have reworked all the characters and added run/walk and sneak actions that can be seen both client/server and removed some bugs and glitches :)

Hopefully I can learn your new plugin for the next game but I have very little idea how it works and have been working with this version for quite a long time now. I guess it's all good either way you put a LOT of work into both plugins and I'd hate to see any of it go to waste!

Thanks again for stopping by, It's quite an honor my friend!

God bless

The new characters look kind of creepy

Construed

Yea lol, its a difficult thing to render 3d chars down to a 320x200 resolution and still keep detail..
Now I know why qfg3-4 characters were so pixely and would have random pixel changes in them.
All together it took over a thousand frames of animation to make sneak, run and walk animations for all of them.
Hopefully I will figure out some methods and techniques of rendering better ones but in the meantime I got the animations there so I can move along with the code :D

Construed

Well, I went ahead and bit the bullet, redesigned the chars and after 72 hours 20 pots of coffee thousands of rendered images and no sleep I think I made them about as good as they get at 320x200, I've found though that it looks best with direct 3d which you can change using winsetup in the installation folder.
The new version is GQ v1.9 aka GQ1_9 and all are welcome to join and comment on our forums!

I like the look of the new characters

Thanks bud, It took a lot of time figuring out exactly how to squeeze hundreds of pixels in a small 45x75 area.
The characters actually have much more detail but when your dealing with a 320x200 area there is a lot of restrictions when it comes to perspective!

Really I think QFG1 and 2 are 320x200 resolution but QFG3 and on are higher, because if you compare their characters to these you'll see they resemble a mix between qfg1-2 and 3.

PS. they look best when running Direct 3d if run under direct draw their head shrinks and grows repeatedly with the scaling. From now on all versions will be released in D3D mode, You can change it to D3D mode by opening winsetup in the installation folder.

Wanted to try this.
1) I tried to register in the game, but nothing seemed to happen. There's no confirmation or anything.
2) I restarted and hoped for my username appearing in the login list, but that didn't happen either.
Couldn't enter the game and gave up.

Also, you can't skip the intro. Which made me give up A LOT faster.

Construed

Very strange, I just registered and got this:

If you want your character to save you must use the game's quit function, it auto-saves on quit.
Very good point on the intro, I usually comment it out when im editing but a Visible=false on mouse click is a great idea!

Thanks a mill for trying it bud, I hope you have better luck with the registration, I'm guessing you might have a powerful firewall or the necessary ports for the game might be blocked or in use?

I did find several bugs in the registration system and am about 90% done fixing them, I'll update when they are done.
Thanks for your patience and god bless!

Ok, The new version 2.4 has been released, if you have visited our site before you will have to refresh it for the correct download.
There's still a few bugs in the reg system, but it WORKS!! lol...
You can create and load characters on the server, however plan to lose the characters in the future upon updates.
Thanks,

Khris

Tried again with 2.4, and failed again.
I checked Win7's Resource Monitor while clicking the Register button, but GrimQuest never even makes it to the list of programs that send or receive network data. I'm not getting any firewall message, and every other program can access the internet just fine. It's like the game never even attempts to communicate.

Did anybody else get this to work?
