A system which you can use to form sentances from wav's containing single words or combinations.

Like:

DisplaySpeechSS (EGO,"I am teh EGO!", 1, 3, 6, 8);

would display EGO saying the sentance, and play sound files ss1.wav, ss3.wav, ss6.wav and ss8.wav to simulate ego's speech... like the system in HL. Would greatly help the speech pack making.

;D

It would make the speech akin to that of video games with commentators where it loads the different wav files and they're all different pitches and it just sounds a bit silly.

Vel

Yeah, the intonation is different.

Ishmael

Record sentances, then cut em to pieces?

Privateer Puddin'

yes, but if you record 2 sentences, cut them up and use 2 sound files from each sentence, you still have a mix and that will only result in weird sounding speech.

Pumaman

Yeah, you end up with a rather silly-sounding result if you try to combine different bits of speech.

Therefore, I don't really think adding this feature would be terribly useful.

Sorry.  :)

I agree with cj; the only reason it worked in Half Life was because they used a silly mechanical voice.
