Mr Flibble

Hi,
I am interested in some 3D things that would be compatible with AGS.
All I want to do is put in a few 3D sequences, just little cutscenes. I saw one called Blender, but thats really more for creating entirely 3D games. I'd like to make my model, then export it to AGS, or make an animation and export that. There is another I have heard of called Maplett, but i don't think does animations.

What program ( or combo of programs) could do this? (Obviously freely downloadable programs).
Ah! There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling!

Ok, I'm now using Wings3D for a few days, and this is what I think is the best I made untill now, because it's a very easy to learn program!! :

The best is .... It's totally FREE! http://www.wings3d.com !
I'm very excited about this program, and if you follow the manual of only 130 pages, then you'll know pretty well how to model with it :)

(im at page 84 ;)!)

I hope this helps you out!

I like anim8or

To make my life easier, I'm looking for a prog with a animation feature. Right now, I'm looking at something called 3D Canvas. It looks good, it can make windows movies which I believe are AGS compatible.

I think anim8or has the animate / scene ability, but Ive never used it so I can say how good it is, I could probably dig up a model I made with anim8or, hang on..

About Blender.. it was made in the beginning for video sequencing and effects and later added some capabilities for great stills.. then the game engine. The game engine is an afterthought and is in its infancy compared to the rest of the program.

You can definately use it for animations and sprites, but you'd have to learn to use it first. The download is only 3mb and the manual is available freely at blender3d.org. Volume I tells you how to use Blender and Volume II is a hotkey reference.

I've only recently learned how to use it for videos. It's not as hard as it seemed to me at first.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, you can save movies in almost any format from Blender. It can render every AVI codec you have installed on your machine, as well as WMV or MPEG and more. You do have to add the sound in another program - in Blender you can import your audio file for animating but you cannot save the file with the sound internally for some reason.

I really wonder what gave you the impression that Blender is only used for realtime games. Just look at the Blender3d.org site and you can see the galleries on the front page that prove otherwise in one glance.

EDITEDIT: If you do decide to use Blender, my contact information is in my profile. If you ever have a question, I'm here to help. I can answer general 3d questions but Blender is the only application-specific topic I can cover.
Once I killed a man. His name was Mario, I think. His brother Luigi was upset at first, but adamant to continue on the adventure that they started together.

Can't be, no big strong arm or caption that says, "Burninating the villiage down."

Anim8tor or wings3d which is better

Minimi

Wings is even better than 3dmax! :P here's an image of a boat I modelled for the TeamGame, wich never got finished...

It's untextured though...but you can simple texture it with an uv-map!

but afterall, it's just personal preference on the interface.

veryweirdguy

The best way to find which is better is to try them out yourself. I know it's pretty obvious, but the interfaces & features of each will be useful to different people. After all, they are both free, so why not experiment? :P

This is a really old thread. Why do guests dig up old threads?

I have no idea, but it might have something to do with the amount of 'omg n00b we discussed this long ago here's teh thread' replies people get.

veryweirdguy

I agree, if he had posted a new topic, someone would've said "We've already discussed this, reply to the old topic"

Damn newbies, they can't win.....not that they deserve to or anything ¬_¬.......

shbaz

He didn't have a question though.. unless he just wanted to start a new topic for a one liner about how good two particular apps are.

Anim8tor or wings3d which is better

sounds like a question to me.

shbaz

Ah, I interpretted that as, "Choose either Anim8tor or Wings3d, but Wings is better."

Wings, almost positively. But phrase your questions better.
