A new way of games--tell me what you think

;D I have a new way of creating Adventure Games! Instead of walking from room to room, you're a comic character, so the end of the room is the side or bottom of a panel and you can jump across it!
Sometimes if you place a bomb by a panel strip it blows up!

WHADDYA THINK???

I hate when people get shot down like that.
I bet his ego bruises like a summer fruit.

Actually I think its a bad idea.
FAR too linear.
Ah! There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling!

Chicky

Actually, I don't think that this would NEED to be linear. You could go back over a panel to get to a different view, or go up or down rather than just left to right.

Though it's kind of an interesting idea, I don't really see how it could be used in an adventure game. It might be very cool in an action game, though.

I'm sure he was blatanly ripping off Comix Zone on purpose. Its not a new way of games. I hope you were going for some weird sort of laugh from us, instead of actually thinking you came up with it.
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

jeez, how do you know he didn't come up with it on his own?

not everyone has played or knows about Comix Zone, give the guy a break maybe?

Haddas

I haven't played comix zone for one thing

..

Am i the only one to think this is in the wrong place? Although he may be wanting critisism on his idea he doesn't really have anything to show for it rather that a few lines.

This could be a good idea, in fact its just given me an idea for a level in my game.

Would this have to be one big room though? How would you sort out the problems with objects etc.

I've never heard of Comix Zone until now, myself :P

Good idea though

Bombs and adventure games don't mix! Think about the children.

Yep, I got the game from Comix Zone... Sega Genises 3.

I love that game. But my version is in AGS form

Phemar

Flippin hell, what is wrong with you people?

This is the one thing I friggin hate about the AGS community, just because someone who happens to have been around shorter than you have, doesn't mean you have every right in the world to go and rip on them for every bit of idea they try and conribute...

O yaeh, I think this is in the wrong place.

BOYD1981

yeh? well what's wrong with all you people that aren't moderators ACTING like you are?

also, shut up n00b  :D

also 2: the sequel, it's not much of a thought out idea, all he's done is taken an idea used in another game and made a small post in here and tried to pass it off as his own "new" idea without actually making anything, such as a mock-up of how it might look and/or work.
man, if i made a thread everytime i had an idea for a game i'd end up with my own forum!

Also III: Revenge of The Also Queen, an idea like that might work, but you'd probably only want to use it once and use it well, so you'd have to make sure it was a decent length and quality game, it'd probably take more effort than it's worth.

Hillbilly, you must have a bad fall. There have been lot of explosives and explosions in many adveture games so what's so bad about that? Look at the MI-games, Night of the Hermit, Phleurgburg, Sam & Max and other adventure games had explosives and explosions, so what harm can posibly be.

Back to topic, I don't think that would work, it would be tricky to script and also be hard to make backgrounds for that kind of thing. Besides, in adventure games you're much more likely to revist a lot of places and comics doesn't work like that (maybe in story telling but not in the terms of adventure games).

Methinks we should keep the comic-book format to cutscenes, like Gabriel Knight taught us, and like a few AGS games has very nicely reproduced, games like Pleurghburg, Chez Apa... but an entire adventure game system?

Now, if you did something comic-STYLE, like say, having those dialogue balloons appear when someone is talking and using lots of sentences used to describe sound ( a big, red BLAM!, for instance), it may come out pretty, pretty neat. But as Boyd said,

Quoteit'd probably take more effort than it's worth.

Don't take me too serious. I was just kidding around. Explosives is good for the children(see? I did it again, silly me).

Speaking of that, Adventures of Fatman: Toxic Revenge did used some big BLAM comictexts when explosions occur (together sound-effect).

The one thing I hate is how touchy feely some of you are. The dude said something stupid and no one told him he was great for it. Big deal. Just because someone doesn't like someone's idea doesn't mean they hate that person and would kick them if they had the chance. The way everyone rushes to everyone's side when people don't like their idea makes this place feel like a police state. Freedom of speech should go both ways, if I can say, "Dude I'm going to make a game about a rabbit in a suit and a small dog and they'll solve crimes," and you're allowed to say, "I think you're a beautiful person for suggesting that," someone else should have the right to call me an idiot.
"So I've proved my point a thousand fold," snorts Davis. "Ho ho."
