Hey people. I've been a long fan of AGS and the games created with it. Though Unity being my favorite game engine, I've been working for the past months in a framework/toolkit for creating classic (as in gameplay) adventure games in Unity. I'd like AGF to become the definite Unity toolkit for adventure games. I've made a post in the Unity forum here. Feel free to ask anything, make requests or throw me a tomato for the shameless promotion :-P

This is a good idea. Keep up the good work. :)

Great initiative there. I've been looking for something like this on and off for a few years now, and this might actually be something that I could use :) Let me know if you need someone to help test it before release, I promise I'll give it a thorough workout!

Maybe a video showing you setting up something basic from scratch would help getting some more attention and interest? People seem to be more receptive to seeing things in-action.

nuverian

Thanks guys.
Yes, you are totaly correct. Indeed a video is a must. I am actually polishing some stuff and working on some videos and a demo "game". I hope I soon have something to show instead of images. Hopefully within the weekend :-)

Ali

This looks very promising. Looking forward to the demo!

Looks great so far, but it isn't going to be available for free, correct?

Knox

Wow, will you be integrating the same kind of built-in features/functions AGS has?

Also correct yes. Unfortunately it won't be free..I'm sorry :(

Yes, the point is to be a full featured adventure game toolkit for Unity, but do you have something specific in mind? I'm open to requests :)

"Everything", heh.

As long as it's worth paying for people will pay for it. Usually Unity developers are quite clever and price their tools and plugins realistically (hint hint ;)).

Unity does seem to have a culture of commercialism that other engines don't. I assume that's down to the fact that the unity devs made a "Marketplace" system available very early on.
It's a culture I don't find very friendly though.

nuverian

Well, even if the tool wasn't for Unity, I would still charge something for it. I am in my attempt to being relieved from working for other companies and become indiependant. But that would never happen if I give the tools I make for free even though I would like to be able to do so, but that would require me having other income sources already. Unfortunately that doesn't happen currently.
That said the price will be very reasonable, something like 50E on Asset Store, and less off-store (since they get 30% on store). Let me know what you think

Knox

If its possible to somehow transfer projects to and from AGS without too much hassle, I'd pay a good price for it.

That sounds like a lot of hard work! :)

um...that would be nice but to be straight forward, it will never happen :). I also think it's nearly impossible if not totaly impossible. heh

For a first release I could definitely imagine paying â,¬35 for an initial release as long as it lets me make a functional point and click adventure game in Unity, but probably not more than that unless videos and/or testimonies are very convincing.

As the framework matures, and proves itself stable, usable, and (most important to me) gets updated frequently to iron out issues -- then I would definitely pay more for example a 2.0 release as the program grows.

I kind of like it this way, as long as the prices for plugins aren't unreasonable. What I've seen as a result is often developers who update their releases because they feel an obligation to their paying customers. Overly priced software is forced to lower prices when no one buys it, so the market ends up adjusting itself to realistic levels. The marketplace they have is probably a big contributing factor to why Unity has grown to become such an incredibly successful behemoth it is today.

Agreed, especially with all of the costs of just getting a full version of Unity with relevant licensing.

I do applaud the effort, however, and hope that this is successful.

Nuvarian, your project looks great! It will especially useful to those who love to work with Unity.

However Unity is a lot of cash. Age.seccia.com already is working on an adventure engine using Unity too. Take a look, maybe you can collaborate.

Hey thanks! I've stumbled upon AGE and look nice although as far as I can tell, the tools are not integrated in Unity. In any case though, I am already near completion of AGF as it comes along very nice in my opinion. Here is a small feature update for anyone:

- Made ability to player to control any number of character across scenes
- Completed full save/load system with slots instead of autosave as I had before
- Ability to define interaction in a visual decision tree similar to the dialogue editor

I though I let you know that regarding 2D games, I am waiting for Unity 4.3 to come out so that I implement it on it's new native 2D feature set.

By the way, Unity has a free version :-)

-EDIT-
Sorry for no video yet, I wanted to complete the above features first :/
