Title: Brittens PRINTABLE FORM THINGS PAGE 4
Post by: on Tue 18/05/2004 15:30:13
Just to let you know, the campsite at LALEHAM in SURREY has been booked now, for 25th June (Fri) to 27th June (Sun). Anyone who needs or wants to stay Sunday night won't be a problem too, but you'll have to pay for that extra night.

OVER 18's it will cost you £4 per night, £8 for the full weekend, £12 if you're staying til monday, or FREE if you're Adam Hay.

UNDER 18's it will cost you £2 per night, £4 for the full weekend and £6 if you're staying til monday.

IMPORTANT - if you ARE hoping to attend PLEASE make sure you email as everyone that attends will NEED TO BRING a signed confirmation that they agree to rules/terms/conditions etc. Unfortunatley I can't let you camp with us if you don't bring it with you. This will be emailed to you relavtivley soon after you EMAIL me (to mark at barnettcollege.com) the following details;

Name
Forum Nickname
DOB
Where you're from
How you're planning to get to Brittens

ANYONE arriving by PLANE to Heathrow are advised to get a BUS or TRAIN to STAINES, where you can be picked up by car and taken to BRITTENS. I believe there is a bus service from HEATHROW to FELTHAM station, which you can then go to STAINES on train. I can't remember if there's a Heathrow - Staines bus service.

Anyone arriving by PLANE to another UK airport should try and find details on how to get to STAINES from wherever it is you're landing. Any problems get in touch.

Anyone arriving by CAR can use the maps below to find your way there. Anyone arriving by TRAIN can be picked up from STAINES and anyone who just wants to get dropped off at STAINES can also be picked up, (that way you don't have to find your way to the campsite).

For your information we'll be getting the same wasp-infected area of the campsite we had in 2002, which is next to the small rear car-park.

You won't need much money as it's unlikely we'll be doing much at all :P but I do ask for a £5 per person donation towards food, as we will be having cooked meals and a barbecue. We may go into Staines, (but like f*ck are we walking to it again) so I'd say you'd probably want to bring another 10 or 20 pounds to spend, but it really is up to you how much you want to bring.

As for what to bring, up to a three man tent - or better still, if you can discuss with others about sharing a tent that would be super. The campsite has showers, recreational fields and a river near by. If you can bring deck chairs or something to sit on thats great, because I only have three deck-chairs. :P

Magazines, books, game-boys etc anything to help keep you entertained. Anyone that's got game information or demos should bring them too as I hope to bring a laptop, (and if anyone else wants to bring a laptop please do).

Naturally you'll need a sleeping bag.

Finally, no drugs! And only buy alcohol if you legally can, though I have no objection for those under 18 to enjoy in an alcoholic beverage too. If the weather is nice then I'm sure we can go to the pub or sit by the river etc.

Any further questions or concerns please email me. You must send me the details above so you can get the confirmation form, and you will then be sent also my contact details to ensure you have no problems regarding parental permission (if necessary) and contacting me over the Brittens weekend.

See you there :)

Whee! Nice job m0ds! Now I can go and book my flights. I emailed you already, right? Also, we Finns will be staying to monday morning. We arrive Heathrow around 10.20 friday morning.

Trip to Staines would be great, I could buy a birthday present for my brother. Custard also said he could bring a laptop, and I'll have some demos to show you :)

I have a 4-man tent, but if it weighs too much I'm not going to bring it because luggage's maximum weight in airplane is 20 kilos I think... But if I bring my tent, I can share it with somebody. If I can't bring it, I would appreciate it if someone could share his/her tent with me :P

Yay, goodie! I sure hope I don't have anything planned for the weeks after or before..

I'll be bringing my laptop there, if it stays in one piece... does that place have electricity btw? As my laptop's battery is dead... But I'll see if I can think up a way to get some material over there somehow, if I can't get my laptop with me.

We have 4-man tent somewhere too... but, same deal. It weights a lot.

...in case I can make it, which I really hope...

Post by: on Tue 18/05/2004 15:53:20
Woot, good good - yep, get booking them flights!

TK, No electricity I'm afraid, so there won't be an oppurtunity to charge your batteries (unless of course Matt Goble offers to charge them for you ;))

Petteri - see about the tent. Don't worry if you can't bring one, as I mentioned before I'll be bringing a big one that can hold about 6 people comfortably. Plus I'm sure someone like AGA will bring one. And Magintz if he's coming but I can't remember.
Title: Re: Brittens confirmed - ANYONE ATTENDING PLEASE READ!
Post by: Ishmael on Tue 18/05/2004 16:04:44
Ok, unless I get a new laptop sometime soon, I think I won't be bringing one...

Hi. :)
Do we need proof of age when paying for how long we're staying?
I will be bringing my laptop :)
I will be bring a 3 man (man being normal man, not custard sized man, so lets say a 2 person) tent. Oh! and i will be bringing my inflatable mattress so its camping with comfort :D

I think that's all, apart from good job markehh ;)

Thanksh :)

EDIT, nope, I don't think you do. I can't remember how we did it last time but I think you pay the money and sign something. But I don't think they check to see how old you are. But, you won't win any respect in my book if you're dishonest.

I have been told I can't have this weekend off work.

What the hell? They're giving me one day a week and sending me home early because there's no work even on that day alone. And they won't give me this week end off work?

I'll see what I can do anyway. I'll phone tomorrow and ask her again, when she's in a perhaps better mood. See if I can swap shifts with somebody that week so I work earlier in the week, not on the weekend.

All good, I've sent you an e-mail I beleive. I can bring a two man tent and a laptop but its a real crappy laptop...

I may cycle if its a nice day, but it may be easier to go by car.

I should be able to stay for 2 days, maybe even the full three but I will have to see.

Gotta go to bed now, i'm feeling sleepy.... *looks at pokemon colleseum* maybe one quick game... ¬_¬

Go to the "Search", type "brittens mittens" as searchwords (without the quotemarks), and select "Match any word" from the dropdown just right of the searchword box, then press search. There you should have all of them.

bad news flash...
I'm not sure if I'll be able to come  :(
it's got to do with 2 things:
- it's gonna be pretty hard to get that weekend off (but I think I can manage it :))
- money, I've got the money to get there but not the money to stay there, but if my boss pays me on time (the 26th) it won't be a problem, but since he never pays in time, it would be a great risk to just go there and hope he pays off...

so (and this is serious) if there is anybody who could lend me money for the campsite and such, I will pay you back (ofcourse) it's just the only way I'll be able to come for sure, and I'd hate to miss this, please consider it :)

anyway let's keep our fingers crossed  :)

Bleh, I'm not going. At least you'll be able to have a decent conversation without constant interruption from me.

Turns out I'm not being given time off for it. I'm working that weekend and Wednesday and Thursday too, and two of the foreign staff are going back to China to see their families, as well as one staff member going off to do some FAS training course and another on maternity leave. So we're short staffed and I can't swap hours. And now I've asked, it would look really bloody obvious if I called in sick. From England.

What gets me is that I've been asking for hours since way back last year so that I could maybe go to Mittens, and I never got any, and now I want one weekend off, she gives me more hours instead? Hmph.

I was really looking forward to meeting all you guys :(

(Except AGA)
Title: Re: Brittens confirmed - ANYONE ATTENDING PLEASE READ!
Post by: on Tue 15/06/2004 15:02:16
The answer undoubtedly lies in politics.

FruitTree, I'm sure I'll be able to pay for your nights - I can't remember how much I said it was, about £12? That'll be fine. Providing I get paid too ;) But I always get paid on time so I will.

Yufster, shame*! Do you earn £4.50 an hour? Every £4.50 job has a manager like that, trust. But asking for time off and getting more hours does sound kind of Irish :P

:)

Title: Re: Brittens confirmed - ANYONE ATTENDING PLEASE READ!
Post by: Meowster on Tue 15/06/2004 16:04:32
I'm a poor student, so yes, I get paid E6.80 an hour, which is 20 cent below the minimum wage for over 18's, and also pretty crap. It's less than £4.50, I believe. Or maybe not.

Soda over here (the small bottles) is E1.30, a bar of chocolate is around 0.75. Everything is horribly priced, and the prices are about to go up on account of the cost of petrol. Except, obviously, wages.

btw, I'm over 18 aswell and I only make 4 euros an hour :S

Matt Goble is the best person to speak about buses with, but I'll check up on Google see what I can find. Lifts from Staines to the campsite is fine but I don't think I can afford petrol to Heathrow :P We'll see.

There's a bus 441 that goes from Heathrow to Staines - timetable here:

I'm awake, I'm awake  ;D

Ooh, a PM!

Right 441 is the correct Bus - I meant to find this info out weeks ago, sorry guys (new job is my excuse and I'm sticking to it!).  The journey is about £2, possibly less - I would advise having change, as bus drivers can be unhelpful if you hand them a £10 note!  You get the bus from Heathrow bus garage, which is in the center of the airport - I'm assuming everyone is coming into either Terminal's 1,2 or 3 (ie: NOT 4!).  The journey takes about 30-45 minutes and you get a nice free view of Terminal 5.

I would suggest getting off at Staines Bus Garage - MODs, that is where we got the bus to and from Laleham, and is directly opposite a large pay and display car park.

Anyone making their own way to the site / Laleham, should go to the bus garage and get a 55-something which goes through Laleham village.

Anyone getting a Taxi from the airport, please be re-assured this should only cost between £15-£20, not £50 or whatever stupid amount JetXL got fleeced for at the first mittens!!!

I shall probably meet you at the site, having bummed a lift from the Dad/Taxi combo - must remember to buy a small tent at the weekend!

What is the final headcount for this?  MODs, as official organiser, do you want us to scope out anything else beforehand?

Matt

Great Magintz :) Btw, are you going to stay to monday? If not, then I have to sleep the last night in someone's tent who is staying to monday...

Sad to hear about that Fruity, maybe I'll meet you some other time then... :/

Oh yeah m0ds, Pessi and I arrive Staines probably around 11AM. Dunno if we should get off bus at Staines station or Staines bus station though...

Get off at the bus station (which is where the bus will probably terminate). Even if you get off at the station the bus station is only a few minutes walk away.

Whoa, this is weird. I hadn't checked in on Brittens before, because I (usually) live in Denmark. And now, just of curiosity I look at the thread and discover that I'm actually right now located just south of where you're going to be at - working at EA in Chertsey, and staying in Walton-on-Thames, ! I doubt I'll have time off in the weekend, but man would I love to come.

m0ds, okay, we'll get off at the bus station.

GG: Yes, come for a day! Or for an evening atleast! Or do you work 24/7 ? :P

Petteri, yeah actually we work pretty much 24/7 (or at least 15/7 - a guy's gotta sleep :)) - often till 11pm or later. And we're supposed to sign off on this project on the 27th, so I don't expect to get time off during the weekend  >:(

GarageGothic,

Are you beta-testing at EA?

I spent a week working at Bullfrog when they were in Guilford - a group of us were divided into two, with half working on one floor for Bullfrog, and the other half working for EA.  The Bullfrogger's started half an hour later, much to the disgust of the EA Beta Testers!

Matt: I'm a language tester, which means that I test the localized (in my case Danish) versions of the games - for bad translation, third party (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Warner Bros.) guideline violations, faulty implemention of translated ressources (length problems etc.) and stuff like that. Currently I'm testing Catwoman on the Xbox. We're at the EA offices in Chertsey, although the game is developed by Argonaut in Sheffield.

Man oh man. How cool would it be to go over there and make fun of you all! Hahahaha! No, just kidding. I can't make fun of people if they out number me. :D Wish I could come but I'm poor, jobless, a freeloader and not to mention I hate the idea of flying or taking a boat and since I live in the US I most likely will never be able to come to one of these events. Almost 22 and still poor...the shame! Actually even if I had some money and liked flying, the chances of me coming to one of these events would be slim...the main reason is...the plane ticket would cost way more than the visit and that would be too much to spend. Plus, If I did have that much cash on hand it would most likely all go toward games. :) Shamefull, eh? :D

Hello.

We're here at Helsinki-Vantaa airport. It's kinda confusing, and this keyboard sucks. We probably should find some places to sleep soon...

Not much to tell, see you guys tomorrow!

I hope there are still people who will read this, I found out that the money I was counting on to go to Brittens has not come through, which is disappointing.  So I can't get the train, and can't go.
AGA was supposed to be meeting me on the train, hopefully someone can tell him why I wasn't there...

Sorry you weren't able to make it, scotch.

Anyway, I'll lock this now to avoid confusion; further Brittens talk can go in the new thread: http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?topic=14951.0
