Figured it out: the game size can't be 0. Make it 1 and it'll work and show as 0Mb on the games page.

I really should run a database query to convert all those stupid base ten kB calculations to just use MB.  I'll add it to the list!

Leon

While you're at it... just cosmetic: story & price are mandatory fields according to the asterix. Should shift up to genre & story. Like said, just cosmetic.

I realised that the "image zoom feature" (clicking on those screenshots in each game entry) only seems to work for screenshots with resolutions
of 640x400 and above (I assume this function just shows them in their native res.?).

Is there any way to enhance/upscale 320x200 screenshots when you click on those? Considering modern-day monitor resolutions one can hardly make out those
sceenies without zoom.

AGA

Images are scaled down in browser to 320x200 on the game's page, and show at native res in the popup, yes.

I could look into scaling up.  Pixel art can look atrocious if it's scaled up badly though, so it might not be the best idea.

Leon

Why scale them? I work at 1280x1024 and it's no problem. These shots are to give you an impression of the art that's used, not HQ details of the game. I think it works fine with the small size. The bigger the images, the more storage you need, the longer it takes to load, the more bandwidth you use etc...

No no Leon. It still has the original game resolution, just upscales in your browser so you can actually see it (like the x2, x3 filter).

Also AGA, just use the nearest neighbor resizing instead of smooth scaling.

Tramponline

Yeah, I just meant 320 x 200 to double size 640 x 400. That way you would be able to at least read on-screen text etc.

That pop-up zoom function as it is now doesn't really make any sense for 320 x 200 res.:
You see a 320 x 200 image, you click on it and it pops to ...320 x 200??

Exactly, what Ryan says.

AGA

There's actually a system (that's not currently working, for some reason) that creates 320x200 thumbnails of each image as it's uploaded.  That would actually make pages load that much quicker.  Not that that's really a problem in these days of high speed connections, but efficiency is always good!

But yeah, scaling up low res pixel art does seem a bit weird to me.  It should be appreciated at the size it was drawn!  I could maybe have a little JavaScript dynamic scaler function the way imgzoom tag on the forums work, which would let people choose if they really want to scale up.

EDIT: what you said!

Narushima

Hi, I'd like to help. Give me the editing rights and I'll take care of F (at least part of it). Is there any preference for the type of screenshot? If there is a title screen, should we capture that, or something actually in-game?

AGSarchives.com:       http://agsarchives.com/games.html ...good place to start.
Leon's website with many, many game solutions & screenshots:   http://gamesolutions.efzeven.nl/category/walkthrough/
Also Leon set up an Excel document, where the games & screenshots on his site are listed:    http://gamesolutions.efzeven.nl/ags.xls

If you find screenshots of your particular games on the aforementioned sites, perfect.

If not, check if the game links work, download & play them and take screenshots.
The download links of some games might be broken and older ones can be hard to find.

One good source for older AGS games:
Old repository from Peder: http://bicycle.agsarchives.com/

Screenshots preferably in PNG format.
I tried to take each screenshot in the game's native resolution.
In-game shots are better and those that are representative for the game, or funny, or scary or etc.

(updating dead download links on the way would be nice too)

AGA

Doesn't really matter whether the screenshots are in png or not, since other formats get converted to high quality jpg.

Tramponline

Perhaps, it might be a good idea to redirect that banner link to your first post and update it with all the resources posted in this thread
and some instructions? Not sure...

That doesn't seem like a good idea. Screenshots of AGS games will almost always be low resolution, if not pixel art, and these display much, much better (and much lighter) in PNG.

In cases where the 'download this game' link is broken, and we can supply the AGS Archive link, do you guys think it is better to link it to the Archive's 'gamecard' page or link it directly to the zip so it downloads the game without going to another page?  I know fixing screenshots is the main purpose of this operation, but I'm hoping to fix some links as well and that was something I was wondering about.

P.S I'll have a good session on this tomorrow. Lets make that list shrink.  Thanks for the access AGA, that will make things easier.

Link to the 'download' link, rather than the actual file, I'd say.

Stupot

Okay, that's my feeling too but I thought I'd see what you and others reckoned.

I would expect the opposite. When I click 'download', I want to download the game, not swap to another page with details about the game.

For some reason I can't edit any more??
And The Farm couldn't be edited anyway....

I used the alternative that AGA suggested so far, I linked neither file itself nor gamecard, but the 'AGSarchive download link':
That way:
You click on download in our database --> it changes to AGSarchives.com --> download pops up immediately & automatically.

Me neither. Maybe AGA granted admin rights on a per day basis?

...or someone of us broke so much in the database that he had to put everything on hold ...  *sneaks off to hide*
