I have a disk for it, but can't get it to run on anything.  Is there a way to play it at all?

I assume Kq7 means King's Quest 7?

Do you know what operating system was the game made for? System requirements are usually printed on the disk cover.
You could try ScummVM (https://www.scummvm.org/), although I do not know if it supports this particular game (E: probably not: http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/King's_Quest_VII).
If this is a DOS version of the game you may also try DosBox emulator (https://www.dosbox.com/).
