I'm currently playing this game called Fester Mudd, stumbled on it this morning while reading game news.
Turns out it's in the Games-in-Production here in this forum, but the author (Tarantula) said they changed engine from AGS to Unity.
Here's the link: Topic: Fester Mudd: Curse of the Gold

I'm curious, why not AGS? IMHO it looks like it can be done in AGS.

Probably because Unity offers more flexible resolutions and easy portability to Mac / iOS / Android?

It looks nice, but I can't understand why people keep coming back to the Scumm GUI.

Val

Nostalgic reason, I guess? :)

The game doesn't really use high res images or wide screen (only 640x480) so that means the portability reason then.

Ali

640x480? The screenshot looks widescreen. Either way, perhaps Unity allows 640x to play fullscreen on modern devices more flexibly than AGS?

That is correct. We switched to Unity because of the portability.

That screenshot was cropped by someone. The game was designed in the good old 320x200 resolution. Of course, we had to fiddle around with resolutions a bit to make the game run on different platforms, but the aspect ratio is always the same.

Aww. Poor AGS. The new version's totally gonna have a "save to iOS" or "save to Android" or "save to Super Nintendo" button, right?!

It's a free demo, the full game isn't free. I downloaded it and it takes you to the google play store to pay for it when you try to go into a certain room.

That sounds really annoying Myinah.
But I guess it's to effectively work as a demo but in case you do want to buy it, you already got the whole game downloaded and can continue where you left off right away.

That's fairly common, and worked really well in the age of 50-MB-or-lower downloadables, when you could download the full game very fast. Now in the age of indie games that are over a gig? Not so much. :-D

Myinah

Just a mild inconvenience. I deleted the file and will wait till the other episodes appear. It's an episodic game, which I personally don't like to invest in until the series has actually been made. I've been burned before :~(

But in all seriousness it would be nice if they made it clear it's a demo on the play store. It's kind of misleading to not mention anywhere that you eventually have to pay. I don't resent paying, I'm happy to pay for a full game, but I don't like feeling like someone tricked me into the download. If it had said £3 to begin with I may well have just bought it anyway. And if this game had been significantly bigger than 26MB it would have been super annoying to wait, like Dave said, and then find I couldn't access the full game (assuming I had no idea it was a demo and had no desire to pay for the full game) but the reviews on the play store say it's pretty short anyway so probably why its a small file.

It may also have something to do with the portability to touch surfaces? No right click issues (everything can be done with a single, "click" as it were)?

The lack of voice acting helps! The VO files for my games take up a few hundred megabytes by themselves. :)

I was rather interested in this game when the screenshots first appeared.  Is there a pc release anywhere, and is there a projection for when the series will be complete?
