I use Paint too, and some people don't know how to draw on Paint, but that's probably because they're used to other programs. If I used a different program, I would have no clue what to do, and it would be really bad art.

I probably shouldn't say this, but my first reaction to this thread was a big laugh. I tried RPG Toolkit, Game Maker, and some other gamecreators, but AGS is the most simple program you can get.

I have some guidelines which will bare you to death or which will learn you some things:
- I have to say Paint is the best program for making sprites. I always used Paint, and it's the best Painting program for basic sprites. The only downside is that it doen't support layers and only a few filetypes.
- Did you check out the site of Mr. Colossal? That site has really good tutorials to help with any type of graphics. There are tons of sites out there which offer free graphics and/or tutorials, just put some time in it.
- Ask other members which have help-icons beneath their avatar for help. I always do when I am stuck! ;D
- Be patient, games take time. A LOT time. Just don't expect to get a food game done in a week or two.
- Don't give up after only 2-3 tries. You can't be perfect at everything, but you can always learn new techniques.

I hope this helps!

Alright, I'm getting pretty good at sprites and I figure out how to do basically anything with AGS. Except I can't do backgrounds. Should I use PAINT to do the backgrounds also?

friends don't let friends use Paint. Graphics Gale, at least. I know it's an investment of time and resources to sit down and learn a new program, but paint is very basic and WILL limit your art even when you feel confident you can move on

There is something called Ultimate Paint, which I find much much better than paint, and easy to use (even for me).

There is also ArtGem, which I also use from time to time.

And I happened to come accross a sily little program called Photoshop (don't ask me how or why...). Either way I suck! But I use this too! Heck why not! My first BG was a nightmare to create, and to watch. Now I'm in the middle of redoing this first one, for the 4th time... At sometime (around 2010?) I will be happy and move to the next one. Tentative release of my game? 23 Feb 2065!!! ;D

Paint doesn'tÃ,  suck, for sprites anyway. Backrounds, yes, they don't look good when done in paint. butÃ,  itis just as good as anything forÃ,  320 sprites.Ã,  Take a look at this sprite and tell me it quote "sucks"

[edit] I find that the story is inconsistent with Indies charactor.
one he is not afraid of SNAKES. AS well Indie probebly think the whole thing is a waste of time, after all he was looking for the ark of the  covenant  in the first movie.

what I ment was YOUR charactor isn't afraid of snakes. in the first chapter, he goes past a bunch of 'em and not no sweat, but much less then is typical indie

I don't think either of you know Indy. For one you can't spell his name right  ;D and second; he IS afraid of snakes. And what do you mean YOUR character isn't afraid of snakes? Are you talking about Indy or what? And with this Indy game, I have started making it, using LucasRipper. A lot of the backgrnds though are going to be handmade. I just did rough copies of the hand-made ones and will use those paint programs you suggested to clean them up a bit.

lo_res_man, I could see a case against Paint for character creation, and the allowance for it to be used for backgrounds.

I have seen some amazing Paint created backgrounds, where when making characters, perhaps layers would be very useful.

Now I'll go ahead and say that I use Paint for my chars and bgs and love it. I have to get used to DPaint.

- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.
