meh
I know that I probably won't get many replies to this, 'cause I don't think many people will even remeber this game, but The Adventures of Fatman, the first comercial AGS game, if I'm not mistaken, won't damn well run! Just as it's about to start, it gives me an error that it can't load it's darn AgsCreditz.dll. I checked, it's THERE! I tried putting it in a number of different directories, but it still won't run it...

Could some-one please help me with this?

Shane 'ProgZmax' Stevens

That's odd.  The most obvious thing to do is check the spelling and capitalization.  If that fails you could try a different version of the dll or redownload the game.

Nope.
Still, it is "unable to load plugin: AgsCreditz.dll".
I don't know what to do...
Links don't work...
Now th game doesn't work.
The world has gone mad! Mad I tell you!

So, anyway, has anyone else had this problem, or could you possibly suggest another download site?

Sektor 13

You are not runing it in Linux are you ?

Dan_N

Unfortunately, I do not have the mental capacity or the harddisk space required to even installing Linux.

And in the future, although I enjoy a good laugh, please post serious replies in this thread.

I really want to play this game.

Thank you.

(this was the calmed version of the reply)

Candle

click the Start Menu, click "Run...", type the following code and then click OK:
regsvr32 "FULLPATH\AgsCreditz.dll"

Nope, a window appears that says:
LoadLibrary("c:\fatman\AgsCreditz.dll") failed. GetLastError returns 0x0000001f.

Bare in mind I have Win98.

Also, if this helps, there is some information displayed in brackets "()" in the window where the "unable to load plugin" error appears when I start Fatman.
It says: "ACI version 2.54.523NMP".

Erenan

Look at the error message right there. It looks as though you misspelled it as AgsCretitz.

Despite the fit of laughter I was thrown after viewing your post and mine, I am a bltihering idiot. Besides, I wrote fast so that is a clear mistake on MY behalf.
So, I'm now going to replace the t with d.
Thank you for pointing that out.

Khris

The downloadable file is called "agsCreditz.dll", so check your spelling and capitalisation.
I don't think Sektor 13's reply was a joke, so use whatever fills your "mental capacity" before replying like that.

Dan_N

Indeed, I had mispelled, both in the run and here, and I rectified that mistake, but to no result.

And about Sektor's reply, come on, do you really think I'm that stupid to run a windows game in linux? Of course, there are windows emulator for linux, but I really think that was a joke. A bad one at that.

Sektor was asking about the linux version of AGS. But I think we got the answer.
I would guess that either AgsCreditz.dll is corrupt; or you don't have some DLLs that AgsCreditz relies on, and that are part of the standard Windows distribution from Win2k on.

Dan_N

Oh course the problem lies in DLLs. It's always a matter of DLLs. I hate DLLs! DLLs haunt my nightmares!

But still...

Maybe it is a problem of something-that-is-not-dll-related.

One (me) can only hope...

But still...

If anyone has any ideeas, please, for the love of the children! Think of the children!

Scummbuddy

I'm afraid to give my ideas as I may get yelled at like Sektor got.

Well, anyways.. have you re-downloaded the agscreditz plugin? and overwrote the file?

Where did you get this fatman game? try redownloading and overwriting the game as well if the new plugin doesnt work either.

- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

Might want to check if it is read only and change it if it is.

i know for a fact this game runs on win98se so that's not likely to be it, but it could be he's running the first edition which may be missing some stuff but it's a long shot...

Dan_N

Nope.
Sorry, guys, I tried all your ideeas (besides Boyd's 'cause I didn't know what stuff that is). I downloaded the new plug-in, and it wanted a newer version of the AGS interface (wanted v12, Fatman has v10). And I also cleared the read-only attribute for all files. Nothing.

ManicMatt

Nah, this is an example of what a bad joke is:

Fatman won't run because he's too fat.

HA!

Gilbert

Where did you get the game? How was it distributed? Was it a CD ISO image or other format?

As far as I remember, I got the internet archived full 200+MB ISO version which worked for me (links available from the related underdogs page), if you're already using that version I can't suggest more.

I originally suspect that it could be a path problem, as AGS stuff might not work well if the files are put in a path with certain folder names (especially for older version of AGS and when there're long folder names with characters not acceptable in DOS), but as you wrote some post above that the path was just "c:\fatman\" that shouldn't be a problem (unless of course you made that up in the post and it was actually installed in some odd path).

Dan_N

No, Gilboot, I got the smaller version from the underdogs. And indeed that is the correct path to my fatman.

The ISO is just to damn big!
Besides, I wouldn't know how the hell to run it.

And Matt, yes the title is a reference to the joke you just posted. Thank you mister state the obvious.

So, people, Fatman is still lying on his fat arse on my harddrive. Please help me...

Or hold me, it's your choice...
