Er...what do you mean?  You mean what can you legally do when you're 18 that you couldn't do otherwise?

MrColossal

i mean when are you not concidered a minor anymore... as in if a 30 year old shoots himself in the foot with a bow and arrow at my camp then too bad his fault

if a 6 year old does it then it's my responsibility

where's the line

18..

I think an age limit is fair not because we hate you youngins just legally speaking and considering how looked down on meeting people online is..
If you are dumb and can't walk and trip and break your leg it is all our (erics) problem and that just isn't fair..

MrColossal

and if i break your leg with my sledgehammer cause i don't like the looks-a-ya well.. that's the law of the land and if you don't like it then maybe you should take it up with the millions of soldiers who died freeing this land from the tyrrany of the Mohawk Indians!!

maybe you should let the parents of the minors sign a paper stating that they are responsible for anything that happens?

...and most importantly, to release the temporary "guardian" from any liability, legal or otherwise.

They can sign all the papers you want, but that doesn't necessarily make the organisers any less responsible in the eyes of the law. And as to a 30-y-o shooting an arrow in to the foot, make sure that all arrows have a disclaimer such as:

"Not to be inserted into body parts"

or they'll still sue your pants off

We had a meeting  at work about health & safety law. In the UK, if you are senior to anyone, you can be criminally liable for anything bad that happens to them, even if its their own stupid fault. This is adults, remember. Not to mention your own and the company's civil liability.

For example, a woman who frequenty used the power-guillotine to chop paper was fed up with the safety buttons that she had to press which ensuredher hands were out of the way when it operated. So she went to the supply cupboard, got some glue and glued them on. After a while, she was a bit careless and lost a thumb or two. She sued the company and got a hefty payout.

so, it's maybe tough for the young-uns not to get a first-hand encounter with a semi-deity-onion-ring-eater, but the risks aint worth it!

Hrmmm. What if I was responsible for those between 16 - 18, or would that not work? Do I have to be an American citizen to be responsible, in America? Surely not.

No, you wouldn't have to be.

Custard raised the issue with me, he went to Sweden. And Magintz went to UK and Sweden.

But yeah, its your call. But i'm happy to be responsible. I'm a part time youth leader and used to help run Beavers, Cubs & Scouts, so I have no problems with being responsible.

N3T, under 18 is classed as a minor. Being 18 is not. :)

I'm a miner in the coal mines in Yorkshire.

n3tgraph

Man that sounds like a tough job m0dsy :)

If you need any help, just phone me ;), I'm a mining expert

I waited for meeting custard, so I hope m0ds could be responsible :)

Oh, and do you have a map of New York to show? One of the flights me and Pessi are planning to take would go to the JFK airport, but it may be possible that we go first to London to meet up with brits and then to New York.

I know I am new here but I'm looking over the stuff about adulthood in the US and what not...

Mostly it depends on the state, but as a general rule it is 18. Like in the state of Missouri 18 is considered adulthood, but you can be charged with statatory (sp?) rape at the age of 17, which 17 is considered an adult in that case. However, in Missouri the MINOR that goes across your drivers license will be there until the age of 21 (legal drinking age). Which BTW is considered the minimal age of an adult in some states...

FYI, you Euros (BTW I spend 3 years living in Germany, and I traveled all over so I do know a bit about Europe) who are used to ordering beer and the stronger liquers, at the age of 15-16, can forget about it in the states. (Unless of course you can find someone to buy it for you, or you are over 21) which if you are caught drinking, the oldest person at the event (party or just chilling at the house) is the one charged with the crimes... Oh and no ciggies purchaces until 18... so if you are under the above ages, don't expect to procure these things yourself...
