Just to clear things up a bit more. In America, you...

...are responsible for yourself at the age of 18.
...can go to jail at the age of 17.
...can legally drink outside the home at the age of 21 (of course, your parents can let you drink inside the home).
...can drive at the age of 16, but only others after six months of having your license.
...can drop out of school at the age of 16.

Scummbuddy

1. yes
2.  you can go to jail if youre like 10, but itd be more of a correctional institute
3.you can't drink anywhere if youre under the age of 21... just because youre inside your house doesnt make it alright.  the parents get in so much trouble over here for allowing that.
4.  thats only someplaces. i got mine when i turned 16
5. i think thats right.

- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

you can only leave school at 16 with parental consent. otherwise, 18
word up

What about sexual consent, involving someone that's not from the USA with someone thats not from the USA but is from Ireland?

lol j/k :P

Anyway, yeah, July anytime is fine :)

n3tgraph

So that means I CANT drink alcohol??  >:(

THe thing about underage drinking... one wise ass once said (and it may have even been me)...

"It's only illegal if you get caught."

If you drink and you are underage, and you are doing it quietly at your house or someone elses... the odds of you getting in trouble are just about nil... however, in a public park, with a huge bottle of Jack Daniels in your hand, while yelling obsinities at children, will most likely get you canned...

So anyway...

But you'd do it with the knowledge that you're not risking your own arse in the shitter, but eric's as well.

can we drop the whole drinking thing? i could care less who wants to drink and who doesn't because it's already handled by the united states and their laws regardless of what country you come from or how you feel about said laws

if you're not 21 you do not drink anything alcoholic. simple as that. also, and this is the most important part, i will be purchasing nothing alcoholic so if you want to buy something either you have to get it when we go to the store or bring it with you and not many people will have that chance

and if you bring anything to drink with you it'll go in the pantry or fridge and as i said before there will be no sloppy assed drunk people because i said so and there will be no sneaking of drinks to people.

I understand some people like to drink but come on, these are the rules and if you don't like them tough, and it's only a few days, you can't NOT drink for a few days?

Ok people, listen to the man. To summarize:

1. Yes, mittens will be in the USA, upstate New York, hosted by eric. There is no need to post saying you'd rather it was somewhere else or you hope it's somewhere else next year.
2. Yes, in the US you must be 21 to drink, yes it is a stupid backwards law compared with the rest of the world, but it's the law and eric as host would be responsible for anyone caught drinking underage. So respect that.
3. Unfortunately nobody under 18 can be accomodated, due to US law regarding minors. It is a shame, especially that you won't be able to come this year custard, but there's always next time ;)
4. Yes it will be a laugh and a chance to meet your favourite AGSers and tell them how much you love them.

Any further posts from anyone whinging about points 1-3 above will be ridiculed, saved for 2 years, then mailed back to you by recorded delivery.

I don't know, I've kind of gotten used to the idea of having to be 21 before you can legally drink alcohol. Maybe because we abuse alcohol the most, who knows?

And yes it is a backward law, but eh like CJ said it IS the law.

So upstate New York, awesome, that's like a 2-3 hour drive, not bad. I could ask for a few days off from work in a row, take the drive up there and meet you guys and tell you how much I love you and want to stalk you, and....and.....

Viva La Mittens 04! ;D
Status: Trying to come up with some ideas...

fjeronimo

So, Mittens will be in the USA. But when will it be held? And will it be announced "officially" in the main site or as a forum sticky?

fjeronimo

Ps - I hope this hasn't been answered in the previous 9 pages of this thread, but since my connection is quite slow at the moment, I didn't really feel like checking...

Ps2 - Concerning American laws, I also hear that it's about the only country in the world (in some states at least) where you can go out at night and not get home with your clothes smelling like a tobacco factory (i.e. Bars and clubs without anybody smoking!!!!).

end of july, fjeronimo, is the current shootin' for date and it seems like that's the best for people

i had an idea, anyone be interested in a mini adventure-x? i can bring my computer up to camp and if anyone would like to give a talk on anything adventure game related or on the process of making an adventure game then they can and can bring things to show and such?

i'd gladly give a talk on anything but the only thing is, it would have to be more like a lecture not a step by step cause there's no way i'm sitting there and drawing an entire background while 15 people watch me... b.o.r.i.n.g.

Eric: yeah, I think that would be a great idea.  I could sure as hell use some face-to-face tips, and I'm sure nobody else would be adverse to them either.

BTW: Do people with laptops usually bring them to Mittens?  My PC is a laptop so it's not like it would be a hassle if people want an extra PC around.  Is this normal or is it more exclusively a naturey woodsy sort of deal?

Nobody has brought a laptop to mittens in the past.

Pet Terry

eric, that's great idea :) I could take a copy of Goldlagoon demo (if I finish it before mittens :P) and mitteneers could play it. Because I'm planning to make a demo but I'm not going to release it in internet.
