Some of the places I'm looking at have heated swimming pools. You can't get any bigger than that!

Yes, a pool would completely shit on your silly little Canadian hot-tub. ;)

And AGA, you're missing me from your list.

No shitting in the pool!

Just came across this - can the people of Miami do any better:

I would have to say "L'Hooray!" for France. Depending on the region, it can be a suprisingly cheap place to spend a week or two...so I'm told.

Miami would be super, but very expensive to attend.

So, France for me! L'Hoo...oh, I already said that.

There are some pretty excellent and luxurious places available, all over France, for a pretty low price. Obviously the more people come, the more limited our options are, but it'll also be cheaper per person.

Okay, we're getting into the 20s now with potential attendees. I think if the list gets much larger than about 25 we may have to actually start turning people away. Finding a place that big would be very difficult. So we'll see how it goes. I have found a 24-person place that looks very nice, so I'd really like to keep it on or below that number.

Also, most of the nice places I've looked at will cost something like £120-130 per person for a week. This might seem expensive compared to the camping at past Mittenses, but the facilities will be so much better.

Andail

Why are we filling spots for Mittens 2008 already?

Hold your horses, young shaver, how about we start turning people away in, like, May or something? When people who have signed up now have at least a modicum of insight whether they can actually attend or not. Otherwise dozens and dozens of people will sign up just in case.

magintz

I assume that the current "yes" and "no" though is not an official roster of attendance as it is still quite early. Maybe in a few weeks time there will be some more definite answers from people as I can't see that everyone who has said yes will be 100% attending.
When I was a little kid we had a sand box. It was a quicksand box. I was an only child... eventually.

If we end up choosing France (or anywhere else in Europe), consider me a possible attendee.

What exactly do you mean by "localise"? Wink wink nudge nudge..

Locate?

By the way; you are right on one point : France could be called "the best place in the universe", since there are chocolate houses where little sprites live and wait for you to give you some candies, naked women waiting for Point n' click makers in a lascivious attitude, and money distributed in the streets if you say that you know Chris Jones.

Nacho

True, but remeber it' s full of french people.  :-\

If we leave it anywhere near as late as May pretty much everywhere will be prebooked. What with Tour de France and the general popularity of France, it's really better to get organised as soon as possible.

Nacho

Well, we don' t know the period of this 2008 mittens, no? Or the final EXACT location? I lauched the idea of the Pyrinées as a lovely dream (I know that at least one miteneer liked the idea  ;)), but I don' t want anybody to feel forced to "accept" my propossal. I hosted a mittens, my right to choose places is "on hold" for some years!  ;)

But, if we go to the Pyrinées, going during the Tour is a no-no... Too much people, and too much hours of waiting (maybe a day) to see the riders for 3 seconds. Tour the France is only reasonable to see with bikes.... And I don' t imagine Helm riding a bike, his hair would clog in the cog.

So, why don' t we decide the place before deciding the period and asking people to tell if they might appear?

LimpingFish, if you go, you can't leave the next day.

I find it mildly disturbing that organising location and attendees of Mittens for next year has already started.  At this rate, I highly doubt that the people putting their names forward will be the ones that come May or wahtever have the time off/money to attend.

Whilst I agree that it's good to get somewhere booked early, with Mittens events you can't really expect people to have a reasonable idea of whether they can come this early. There's certainly no harm in scoping out places, and since there seems to be quite a bit of interest we could plan on setting a maximum of 20 people and looking and what would be available to fit that many.

Then in a couple of months time perhaps we could present the options and people would have more certainty about whether they can go or not.

Personally, I'm 99% sure to attend, wherever it is.
