Change of plans! My better half would like to come along as well if there's still space?

When do we need to pay the money, and how much is it each?

cat

Wheeee! Great news! ;-D

Disco, when is the final payment due?

The remaining 80% is payable in cash on arrival, or earlier if by bank transfer. This differs somewhat from the information on the website, but that information was included on the deposit confirmation email, so going with that :P

I'm assuming paying on arrival is preferable to most everyone? We also need a separate 500 EUR deposit which is given back at the end of the stay, in person from the sounds of things.

GSpot Gastronomia, the quirky-named restaurant that was 100m from the house, is now closed as of February 2014 :(

As I recall, the way we usually handle it is that one person is responsible for paying the landlord, and everyone else sends that person their share either in advance or afterwards. Cleaner than trying to scrape together the money on arrival, I think (esp. since people show up at different times etc.). For my part I'd certainly prefer to just send you my share now than to bring it with me in cash. That way there's one less thing to think about just before traveling, I don't have to worry about losing it, and my bank records show more clearly where the money has gone.

It's anyway preferable to pay by bank transfer than in cash, right? Particularly if there should be some dispute over the rent.

I agree with Snarky for mentioned reasons. Also I wouldn't feel safe to carry that much money with me.

We can do it whichever way, but if it is by bank transfer, as with the deposit I won't be able to do it myself, so probably best for Cat to make the final payment again? There isn't a time limit either, just sometime prior to arrival.

That is correct, but we've not really had the option before until now. Bank transfer does seem better when you mention the benefits. It was just a thought.

I emailed the managers this morning with an update on numbers, but going by their guidelines it should be 200 EUR each at 14 people.

cat

I just PMed the people who showed interest to see if someone else wants to come.

Hi guys! Thanks for the PM, cat!

I'm sorry, but I won't make it this time. :(

I'm leaving my day job to pursue the dream of completing a brain-poking-based game project (my ambitious goal is to do it in a finite amount of time) and that means I will need all the money I currently have to survive long enough.

I wish you all to have a double great time at Mittens 2014 - once for yourself and the other time for me!

Bad news...I injured my knee and my doctors insisting that I get this thing fixed. He's telling me I need ligaments and such. The surgery is set too close for comfort to this trip, so I'm going to have pull out this year.

Instead of taking a week of and traveling, I'll spend a week laid up in recovery and several months with crutches. The good news is that I may be able to get temporary Handicapped Parking, and I'll have the money from this years trip for next year, which will clearly be in Austin, TX and super convenient.

Sorry guys :(

arj0n

To bad, I was looking forward meeting you and the others I never met in real life yet.
But hey, better be fixed up for the next mittens, indeed.
And as bonus you even receive a new inventory item: the Handicapped Parking Pass!
That certainly tops everyone who is attending Mittens this year :-D

Next year Austin, TX? Show us the real Austin Powers  (wtf)
The Natural Bridge Caverns looks awesome though.

cat

Oh no, that's terrible news, I was looking forward to meeting you :(

I hope you will get well soon.

Snarky

Sucks that we won't be seeing you, Mills. Good luck with your surgery!

Disco

Hello everyone.

I just got an email from the manager asking for the 500 euro security deposit to be paid soon. This took me a bit by surprise as earlier emails seemed to indicate it could be paid and returned in person. With 13 people, it will come to almost 40 euros each. I am unable to cover that on my own this year, but can accept payments via Paypal (they prefer bank transfer, but allow Paypal since this will be paid in one lump sum).

Another option is if anyone else is able to cover it for the time being, it may simplify things.

Would anyone be willing to do such a thing this year? Otherwise, I will post my Paypal address in the next day or so in order to get things going.

In other news, my sister and I booked our flights this morning. We arrive on the 17th and will depart from the train station in Lisbon on the 26th around 21:00, en route to Madrid.

Sorry Mills! I was looking forward to seeing you again and your listening to your jokes :S Hope you get better soon. Did you manage to at least get a good story out of the injury if I may ask?

Snarky

I can cover it. Just let me know about the details for making the transfer.

I emailed with another update on our numbers, now at 13. She asked me to make absolutely sure before reconfirming, citing fees for each successive change to our reservation:

Are you sure that there will only be 13 people in your party?

I will have to change you reservation and adjust the price.

Therefore, please note that this close to your arrival, each time you change your reservation, there is a surcharge of â,¬100.00.

Please confirm before we proceed to the alterations.

Looking forward to hear from you.

So this is LAST CALL for Mittens 2014. Any last minute adds or drops?

MillsJROSS

It's been going on for years. First injury was in college playing basketball. Pretty sure I tore my ACL then. Since the first injury I've reinjured it several times since, and the last injury was simply getting up. This time I tore something new.

Just got out of surgery yesterday. Everything went well. I look forward to having a knee again.

arj0n

Good to see everything went well.
Looks like you have time enough now (while recovering) to play lot's of ags games ;)
