My Monkey Island Comic (Warning: Some strong language)

I've start to make a series of Monkey Island comics using the original sprites and background from the games.
Atm, I've only used the Monkey Island 2 graphics, but i plan to include some MI1 graphics as time goes by.
There is some strong language, I'm sorry if it offends, but that's just my humour.

Here's what i've done so far:

Btw, I'm not sure if this would be better suited in the Critics Lounge. It can be moved if need be.

Babar

I think its OK here. It's a nice idea. I like the first one, it really made me smile. I like how you used the different sprites and mad them fit.
The ultimate Professional Amateur

Now, with his very own game: Alien Time Zone

Nacho

The first one is really good! I don't get the third one, though...
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

ManicMatt

I think you do get the third one, cos there aint much to get.. am i right?

Yeah the first one was alright, the second one threw me off with ffs, becuase I've never seen that expression before, perhaps it would be better as pfft, and wasn't the whole big cross thing part of the joke in the actual game? As for the third one, and im sorry, but it's just guybrush falling in the swamp. And the swearing doesn't offend me, but it is out of character seeing as guybrush never swears.

But don't let me discourage you, as they said, it's a good idea, but it needs work on the joke department.

Ashen

I think FFS is short for 'For F**ks Sake' (which is to say: I know it can be, and I assume that's what stu meant). So, "pfft!" wouldn't really be better (unless you want to cut the swearing, even in abbreviations).
The first one made me laugh. The second not so much, but still OK. The third one: the sprite choices are well done but it's just a 'Guybrush is stupid/clumsy' joke, which seems lazy - fitting, yes, but it'd be nice to see a bit more imagination.

Other that that, I second what Matt said.
I know what you're thinking ... Don't think that.

m0ds

The first one is very funny!!! Hehehe but yeap, I don't quite get the other two! :P Good stuff though. I never knew Threepwood has such a potty mouth tho :P

I think I get the last one now. Is it tipping over annoyingly at the wrong moment? :P

Ubel

Hah, the first and second ones were very funny! Especially the second one! :D

More! With less swearing preferably. ;D

voh

The swearing seems kind of redundant. The jokes would work exactly the same without them - and using swearing in stories, movies, any art form is to make something more intense. Well, usually.

The swearing just seems to be there because you want to use swear words.
Still here.

DanClarke

cool idea, could make an interesting weekly competition of some sort.

ildu

I agree with voh. The swearing just detract from the whole Monkey Island world. Small innuendos about sex and violence is already existant in Monkey Island, so why not make it a little more subtle?

The Inquisitive Stranger

In agreement with almost everyone else, the first is my favourite.

The whole concept kind of reminds me of stripcreator.com, where you take various characters from existing comic strips and put them together to make your own. Ah... those were good times...
Actually, I HAVE worked on a couple of finished games. They just weren't made in AGS.

DGMacphee

I like the first one too. I especially like comics where the last frame throws you off.

It reminds me of the way Nicholas Gurewitch does the Perry Bible Fellowship.

See his site here: http://cheston.com/pbf/archive.html

I especially like these PBFs (to give you examples):

http://70.86.201.113/imageserv2/temporary/PBF044BCGopherGirlfriend.html

http://70.86.201.113/imageserv2/temporary/PBF011ADHammerScrewed.html

I think if you follow the same style as that first one you made, you'll have something grand.

It's also waaaay better than 90% of spirte comics I've read. Most sprite comics (particularly the ones that use Final Fantasy graphics) are retarded. Read them as examples of how not to make a funny webcomic.

Hehe, kewl!
* Steals gags for his game
I like the first two strips.
I'm not sure if I get the third one.
Is the gag that Guybrush swims through the swamp instead of getting the idea to row?
Well, do you have more to show us?

That's not true, in MI4 he said "bitch"!

*gg* I have something big in stock for this cross in my game!Ã,  ;)

ManicMatt

Bitch a swearword? Barely!

hmmm maybe Guybrush is hitting his head on the statue's teeth?

stu

Yeh, the 3rd comic there was crudly thrown together. I just liked the idea of Guybrush trying to safely get into the skull and loosing balance and falling into the swap. I guess the swearing was kinda' inappropiate.

When i get over my flu and i'm not at work, i'll try and make up some more. I'm glad most of you liked that first one, I'll try and stick with that style.

Damien

Oh, I thought he dropped his paddle and trying to reach it in the 2nd cell and then getting hit by the skull in 3rd. Now it makes much more sense.

Anyway, I like how you used the sprites from the game and can't wait to see what you'll come up with next.

Also, I don't mind the cursing that much, but it just doesn't feel as something Guybrush would say.

stu

On a unrelated note, I 'made' this animation which i use as a sig on a different forum.

Well, he rather says something like "slut".
It's just lost in translation.
