My personal opinion on next AGS update!

Well...the next AGS update should be another Service Pack for 2.6! Then...an upgrade to 3.0 with new features & many bug fixes from the 2nd service pack for 2.6!

The 3.0 upgrade release should be done 40 weeks after the 2.6 SP2 release.

the 3.0 upgrade should have the following...

*Manual Compiler for distributing games into executables

*Bug fixes from 2.6 Service Pack 2 (if ever released.)

*Cutscene Editor/Creator feature (where instead of coding to make a cutscene, you can create one inside the editor withotu the hassle of learning the scripting language.)

*Automatic program updater (Updates AGS automatically (basic bugfixes, editor updater, run-time errors, etc.))
****************************************************

That is just my opinion, but some might agree with me.

DGMacphee

Why not just call it version 2.7?

Why 3.0?

Also, why a need manual compiler when AGS's internal compiler already makes EXE files?

Sshhhhhh, DGM!

The man has a vision.

Version Number 3 stands for the Holy Trinity, 3 great monoteist religions of the world and number of eyes of a 3-eyed man.

The 40 weeks period clearly points to the number of days of Jesus Christ's fast on the desert.

Manual compiler signifies that, tied to our computers, we should not forget about manual labour (as Saint Joseph was a carpenter).

Cutscene Creator is a reflection of the False Demiurgus, the gnostic earthly deity who manufactures the material world, which is but a cutscene in our existence.

Automatic Updater, much like the spirit of an enlightened man, maintains a constant connection with the Motherlode of Ideas (heaven, simply put).

The one question i have is, why 40 weeks?

edit: apparently this one question was so important AGSforums felt it was necessary to post twice

Hahahahah, this post is just too funny!

Captain Mostly

I'm puzzled...
I think I've missed the point here...
is this just a suggestion on how CJ should number his releases? Or is it a request for some features? Or both?

Plus: Is there any point having a script-less cut scene system, when it's basically no-longer possible to make an AGS game without learning basic scripting any way?

Ishmael

I see no need.....

* TK calls down an airstrike at PhilRoberts2004's cordinates

I didn't do anything!
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

I agree with you.

Why didn't I ever think of this?

Yeah, it's ridiculous having it released any sooner. Think of all the manatees.

The compiler that AGS already has is useless. I mean, those executables are clearly fake. As for Bug Fixes... are you a genius or something? CJ would never have thought of this! You should patent that idea. As for Cutscene Editor, that would eliminate the need for that pesky MoveCharacter command which I can never remember. And finally, Automatic Program Updates! Just what I need alongside my Windows Update, Windows Media Player Update, Realplayer Update, AIM Update, MSN Update, Xupiter Update, ClockSync Update, and Virus Update!!!

You're a genius. If you wanna talk about collaborating on your next MAJOR game, my AIM handle is YufsterChan, or MSN is Yufster@Hotmail.Com.

Andail

Good thing you advice CJ to fix all the bugs while upgrading to a new version.

Since he's only released around thirtyfive versions so far, with roughly as many bugs fixed on each one, he might just forget it next time.

Here's a kick-ass advice for you my friend:
Give the engine a serious try. This will have two nice side-effects:

1. You will know what the heck you are talking about
2. You will be morally justified to make requests of new functions

Vel

:o But of course! How could have CJ been so foolish!

Archangel (aka SoupDragon)

You forgot MaekMyGame(), something that I've been bugging CJ about for AGES now. God, that man is such an incompetent.

yeah CJ, we aren't not paying you for nothing  >:(

Ishmael

Ah, how could I have missed that! You are right!

* TK cancels the airstrike he didn't call down

Man, after AGS 3.0 it will be renamed to Teh Ult1mate Adventuer Creationing Rox0rz Program[\b]!!!

And I still haven't seen the MakeMeTheKingOfTheEntireWORLDAndGiveMeTheAGSSourceCodeSoICanRuleEverything(int inhowmanymilliseconds); command...

CJ, speed your work, and, finally, fix that annoying bug that lets people to bypass the engine limits and script something incredibly great and beautiful and wonderfully working stuffs!

And again, Phil, sorry for my stupidity.

I think he should start calling it the AGS Suite, because it sounds neat.

TheYak

Well, the game part is a bit redundant.  The engine could also be used for making Adventure movie-type things with no interaction (if someone really wanted to).  However, the Suite addition does add a touch of professionalism and class.  Therefore, henceforth AGS shall be known as Adventure Studio Suite.  I will be even more proud to be a member of A.S.S.

Domino

yep, this is one A.S.S. i'm glad i got my dirty paws all over.

Layabout

I'd pay CJ a whole australian dollar if he changed it to ASS.
