Old Sierra quests - CGA monitors

The first adventure game that I've played - Larry 1. I played it on CGA monitor - no colors - only shades of green And I think that on CGA monitors the old games look much better than on EGA (16 colors). Now I'm trying to find a old PC with CGA monitor to run the old adventures again And I think that I can find an old 16bit PC in some factories here in Bulgaria where I live.

Why not run it on your "new" pc in dosbox and ajust the screen setting the way you want?

That gives me another idea:
While making an adventure game in AGS, record that "scratching-5.25-inch-floppy-drive" sound (or look for such a wav file on internet) and play it in the game as background FX every time you go from room to room.
That will give ya the real oldshool feeling in the game...

As extra you can also add some of the famous (as in larry) "oops" errormessages, like "you did something unexpected".

I'm a bit fun of old stuff, and I can't say that if I had the chance to do it, I would go for it.

Try to get a hercules screen with CGA emulation. So you can get retro feeling with a higher resolution where it's supported.

CGA is not green on black, that's monochrome. CGA is 4 colors.
And DOSBOX would be favorable option.

...and monochrome could also be orange with black.

Orange-black or green-black is the most visual classic/retro you can go I guess.
But with dosbox you will still miss one thing; the great spinning floppydisks fx...

Well it was not mine, but a friend owned it and I badly wanted it. I even offered 50 DM (25 euro)  but obviously he refused

We managed to play a lot of these early AGI games, but it was already too slow for Larry 3 - damn.
But enough of retro talk, I just wanted you to know, that I've ripped your idea of recorded floppy sounds 
(which are hard to record in proper quality btw.)

Sort of - kinda - related. Has anyone tried the latest version of WinUAE? The (excellent) Amiga emulator? It comes with sampled diskdrive sounds that play when you load a game - it adds a ton to the whole retro experience!

That's pretty cool, miez, though since I use a workbench boot up and whdload I probably won't notice.

Believe me, try booting an ADF file with the sounds turned on. It's like an instant timewarp to the eighties!
