Hello everybody

We're releasing a freeware game next weekend, and now I can't get in touch with the company that makes our sound effects! We still need a couple of sound effects, so this is pretty bad. Do you know of a good source for public domain or royalty free sound effects? Can you help us throw together a few sound effects this week? Contact me at "martin (a) snarl-up.com" (spam protection) ASAP! If you create sound effects that we use in our game, you'll of course get credit for that, but we won't make any money from this game, so we can't pay you.

The game in question isn't an adventure game, so this is pretty off topic. We're working on an adventure game as well, so I know that these forums are filled with friendly and helpful people, that's why I posted this here.

Hope to hear from you soon!

There's lots of sources out there if you spend the time looking. Problem is just find the right kind of sound effects for your game though. Anyways, here's a couple of sources your might check:

Yes, but the problem is not finding sounds, but finding FREE sounds.
Findsounds.com for example just indexes all sound files it can find, they're not automatically free.

I suggest buying a few sound effect CDs off eBay.

You can also try and contact M0ds, he offered to do some sound effects.
("I just want to add that I am happy to make sound effects for anyone.
I can produce custom made sound effects in CD sound quality, as WAV or MP3.
Just PM me if you ever need something.")

If you're willing to pay for sound effects, I recommend Sounddogs.com.

I`m sure you won`t get sued......

footstep sounds ....or other sound effects can`t be copyrighted...

as they are not unique like copyrighting a record.

Sfx ....of items will sound similar and i`m sure theres no SFX police who will sue you.....

People only sue when they can make loads of money from doing so.....

And proving you used a paticular Sfx is going to be hard......

Use a program like soundforge to make sfx how you want....

True, probably not.

It's just a fad of mine, clear conscience and all. ;)

I don't think it's about being sued or not. It's more like respect for the artists/authors/whatever out there.

Make your own sfx then.......from scratch.

Yes, that would be the best option, if I had the equipment and know-how... :-\

Most of the sound effects here are royalty-free or public domain.

Thanks for all the links, I've found everything I need now!

WARNING: I just clicked on the echovibes link given above and it linked to a sex site that downloaded a trojan to my computer (which my anti-virus software caught, thankfully). So don't click on that link!

I have lots of royalty free sound effects. For future reference just list what you need and I may be able to find them.

But the moment you use the Wilhelm scream the lawyers will be all over you.

Actually I might be able to help you, Martin, as I have amassed a small library of sound effects recorded by myself. What do you need?
