Dualnames, "Fuck off" is not like "malaka". Don't use it all the time.

I used to play bass in a band called The Malaka. I always wondered what that meant...... 8)

Well, I've had enough of this! Fuck off!

As a native english speaker, I agree with dualnames' choice of words.

Wersay, what will you do if you create a game. Panel rate it as 2 cups and give you some notes for fixing. You create second part (story connected with the first) - and Panel rate it as 3 cups and give you more notes for fixing. You create third game (story connected with the previous parts) and fixed notes. The raiting give 2 cups, when everyone is saying that 3rd part is the best of the all three.

I think that the guy who reviewed the 3rd game didn't play the previous. I think we have to open a thread for this - the thread for series games with connected storyline.

How about you just be happy that "everyone" except the panel reviewer thinks the 3rd part is the best? Sure, it sucks when some people don't appreciate your hard work as much as you'd like but it's far more important to me that at least someone likes it.

Yay, I finally got to participate in one of the sequels of this fantastically entertaining discussion! I'm going to give this one only two cups out of five since it's getting a bit repetitive.

All this from a man who previously said that the AGS game database is mostly full of crap.

No, we don't.

In fact, we don't have to talk about anything we don't want to. I'm tired of you, Cosmos Quest, and everything related.

I'm glad some people enjoy your games. I'm not one of them. Your beef with the panel has grown entirely out of proportion, except in your own head. You're standing up for nobody but yourself, all for the sake of a rating.

You've repeatedly insulted various AGS authors with your remarks - such as your past comment about this years AGS Award nominees - though any negative comment about your own games is met with incredulous anger.

Andail didn't ban you because of what you said about the AGS Panel. You were banned because you are a disruptive self-obsessed egotist, who sees any form of criticism as a personal injustice because you have an inflated sense of your own talents.

Artist, indeed.

Let it die already. If you can't take criticism maybe the internet is not for you.

I don't think enough has been made of the fact that Harg is 33 years old.

You are, ostensibly, a grown man.  Start acting like one.

I can't be grown man when I'm surrounded by children...

You're an adult posting on an adventure game forum about how unfair a review was.  It's childish and silly.  Just let it go.

I don't expect you (haven't yet worked on any finished games) to understand the situation.

NSM

I've created a game with AGS, but that isn't relevant.  What's relevant is that you're being a child.  You've created a series of games that people have enjoyed.  It's gotten at least one good review.  What more do you want?  Why do you need constant validation?  You consistently ignore the points made about the panel by those posting here, which tells me that you're not interested in having a rational discussion about this.  So just let it go.

But that's just it. Different reviewers look for different things in their games, so its not just a laundry list of things you can change to automatically get a higher rating. That's particularily true for gameplay and puzzles. Graphics and sound are more objectively measurable I guess, but even there people prefer different styles.

In the end you should make the games YOU enjoy. If others like them too, great. But depending on universal approval by strangers on the internet... well, good luck with that. It's maybe not the best road to retain one's sanity. Just my two cents...

Dualnames, I have stopped read you after your "Fuck off". Short answers are better than cursing.

ahhhhhhhh..... you?

Let's see if I can steer this in a productive direction.

To my knowledge when searching for games on AGS you can't sort by user rating, which many people seem to think is more useful. I would agree with this but then the user rating doesn't usually differ much from the panel rating.  I mean ANTR got 2 cups and is at like 60% overall enjoyment,  Seems about even.  Anyway, I think it would be nice to be able to sort by user ratings as well.

Heres a quote for you Harg:

“Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings so that you shall come easily by what others have labored hard for”
-Socrates

Me personally, I enjoy getting negative reviews.  Not to say that I don't like being told someone liked my game, but when someone says 'it was fun' it helps me quite a bit less than.  'I hated the game because of... x,y and z'  If you don't think that anyone else's opinion matters then the fact is that you will not improve much.  I wish you luck though.

And at risk of continuing this argument I have another quote in my signature.   ;)

Harg1

Ethan D, you are joining in this discussion too late. You words sounds wise, but you need more details about this arguing to be more accurate.

Errrr. Wow :P

In my latest game, I was given 2 cups by the panel which is "A reasonable game, worth a try."

Why is this offensive?

Not to mention that on the new site, the players' cup rating is in view as well as the panel's. This is how it is:

Some people really liked my game, while others didn't. Although I was aiming for a surreal environment, the puzzles were just too outlandish. However, I was voted up a lot in atmosphere.

Now, the panel does its job, it decides based on certain criteria just how well the game works in ALL aspects of the adventure game genre. In this sense, we were given 2 cups overall.
Now, when a player comes along and says "Well, I really didn't like X about this game, but I LOVED Y"! They generally rate the overall experience up, resulting in a higher player rating, which makes you look good as well.

So: as long as your players are happy...what's it matter? :P

Hey Ethan, could you tell where did you take that quote from?

Agreed in regards to the fucking off. This is what, like 4 threads complaining about how underrated your game was? You're being so immature, it's disgusting. Congratulations on becoming a troll and a joke. I apologize how rude this sounds, but you've exhausted your chances.
