Before drawing out my walk cycles I wanted to take a poll of what is generally preferred for left and right walk cycles: a true profile of the character, or something a little more diagonal?

depends...

if its for a main character, I like the true profile but using the other for your diagonal moments Down right, down left etc...

If its for a NPC, to walk to a point, I like the diagonal view.

Also i supose it would also depend a lot on the background

I like to have a slightly diagonal facing standing still and talking view and side on walking.  Seems to look nicer.. it's used in many games.

Well, he used Poser, so it couldn't have been too difficult.

Well yeah I used poser to demonstrate quickly what I meant but I'm not putting poser characters directly into my game.

Probably way off topic, but I didn't want to start a whole new thread:

Are Rezbor Studios using Poser for the characters in Legacy, or were the real models not ready when they made the website? The last three characters at http://legacythegame.com/char.php look incredibly Poserish (=bad! ;)), but as far as I know, the game uses in-game rendering of characters. I don't want to download a 150MB alpha just to find out.

No, they don't look particularly poserish.. that's just what fairly accurate 3d models of people look like with flat textures.

Aw, come on! Jack Black and Juan de LaRosa are so obviously the stardard Poser 4 male with a few morphs. I even think Jack's hair is one of the standard Poser hair styles. I'm pretty sure Christine is Poser 4 as well, while Ren is either very well lit or retouched in Photoshop.

Hmm actually you may be right, the bottom ones look very poserish.. at least the in game characters aren't poser.
It looks pretty cheap on a professional games site :)

Or if a person is going to use Poser-made character, alter them extensively and make them your own, like I did... www.harbinger-software.com/bts :)

Sorry. :P But it meant as advice, though. Make it your own. Too many games/etc. use the default Poser style and it looks amateurish. use facial morphs, different clothing, learn about polygon editing, and other advanced stuff. Use the pay models by DAZ3D (tho I downloaded mine) like Michael and Victoria that have realistic eyelashes and eyebrows, and get some hair objects that have transparency maps to look realistic.

That is, if you're going to use Poser. You said you weren't, so... :P
