What happened to justadventure.com?

I just visited justAdventure.com and it looks like nothing's been updated in a few months. 'Search' is now just an unlinked word, and four emails I tried all bounced. This used to be a big deal site (1 million hits a month is the boast). Anyone know what happened?

They still have updates, but they kind of slowed down dramatically. Probably the editors are too busy with their lives, or have lost much of their enthusiasm after so many years.

For instance, adventure-eu.com stopped updating for a while, then disappeared off the air, and now has been taken over by cybersquatters.

It's tough being an adventure game fan! I remember for years thinking that Qandary was the most reliable site, and it was.. then they just closed it down one day.

Somebody should make an AGS game where you play an adventure gamer and just try to survive.

I subscribe to JustAdventure's RSS feed and they have a least 1 new update a day... including interviews and features... they might not do much to the website as often, but they're still keeping up with adventure games.

These updates consist mostly of press releases and announcements of new screenshots and trailers. I also don't remember any notable feature or interview on JA since the one about The Lost Crown a few months ago.

The most exciting thing about Just Adventure in a very long time is that Randy Slugansky has proof-read and polished the dialogs in Downfall.

I haven't written for UG for ages. The page is still there though, it's just moved to http://www.adventuregamers.com/freeware.php.

Well, Quandaryland was also quite a quality site, and Adventure Europe tried hard to be one too, maybe too hard, but I can't say I miss Just Adventure. Their reviews lauded, praised the most terrible adventures.

The site used to be quality, but man it got insanely cluttered over the last few years. Their forums are pretty active though.

IMHO, from my few visits over the years, it seemed like an advertising space and less like a worthwhile site. At first glance of course. No idea if it is/was something else.

Yep seems to be predominantly forum lead these days, as do many. I used to love reading their freeware articles by Audrey

In 2010 it seems AG(A) has seen fewest articles in many years, too. But it's not like we're particularly put off by forum led websites

While I agree that Just Adventure was better a few years ago, offering a regular dosage of solid updates, they still keep treating indie adventure games (AGS-made too) real nice (meaning links, coverage, and sometimes proof-reading), so I wish them to live long and prosper!

AG has posted nine articles so far this month though. Not sure if that's really a drop in frequency, but either way, it's still a more than decent amount.

This topic was started a year and a half ago, but I thought it's fitting to continue it as we now have an answer to the question from the subject line.

Apparently for years now Randy Sluganski - the creator and owner of Just Adventure - has been battling cancer. He had some temporary success, but as I understand it the situation has become much more serious lately.

As a result of this, Randy decided to sell Just Adventure and it just happened - 2 weeks ago.

I feel strange commenting on this - I was never a regular JA reader, never knew much about it behind the scenes, but I did read quite a few Randy's articles and hope for the best regarding his health. I'm posting this because I thought it might be important to let more people know what is going on and that we keep an eye on JA.

Oh, that's sad news indeed. I've also always been more of an AdventureGamers reader than a JustAdventure one (I think for many of us they're like Pepsi and Coke -- "never the twain shall meet" and all that) but it's always sad to hear about someone's serious health issues. I wish Randy a full recovery. Thanks for posting this, Ascovel.
