Ready for the greatest Reality on the Norm Game ever?

In terms of size, that is.

Probably not quality.

Definitely not.

FUN TIME IN HAPPY LAND

I'm not going to write a huge description.  Taking place some point in the RON series, this was originally created in 2000, or 1999 or something, envisioned as a more bizarre response to the first Reality on the Norm game, taking the word "reality" quite seriously and "norm" quite figuratively.

A deep storyline embedded (shown, not told) in a ludicrous adventure spanning multiple islands, and possibly other worlds/universes, this is probably the longest RON game ever made.  Back when it was originally beta tested, it already far outstripped the competition possibly having more content than all the others combined.  This was the game that broke all the limits of AGS when it first came out.  But all that would be nothing without humour and depth of character.  Which this has.  Neither.

Or some... maybe.  And some violent deaths.  Outdated comedic references and politics combined with just a touch of spite.

This game was scripted in version 2.22 of AGS, and due to programming conventions, could not be safely upgraded, meaning all the new content is in that same format, bugs n' all.  Extensive testing has revealed no deadly bugs, and bug testing continues, as does addition of content until release date.

Love the trailer ... I WANT TO PLAY NOW, NOW!   I want to experience the vast amount of bugs so I can throw my pc through the window with pure passion.

Very entertaining trailer, thanks.
Some documented use of the DOS version of AGS!
Looking forward to the game... ame... me... e...
Still waiting for Purity of the Surf II

I remember playing the demo of this. The paint bomb never worked properly... and neither did the colour swatches sheet. And picking up the church screwed up my inventory. But it was damn good fun.

Yes, thanks to extensive beta testing when it was closer to being completed, those things have been fixed.  Except the paint bomb, since there never was one.  Though I can see how the game could lead one to believe that--there might be a bit more to that puzzle that I wouldn't want to give away...

;)

BTW, even though I know it was a pun, I still cringe every time I see that "Greatest RON game" subtitle.  I'm not getting rid of it, because it is technically correct and just amusing enough (for me), but it does raise my hackles.  And they're already pretty high up there. Wink-face to myself.

Oh yes, I remember now... well, at least it involved paint and a bomb of sorts. The problem was that the vending machine didn't like me, and with the collosal maze between the two points, ack...

I don't want to hijack my own thread, but just as examples of some of the improvements, that particular maze now includes an optional map-getting puzzle and an instantaneous teleporter that allows you to bypass it--I'm not hinting how to get them though, these are just examples you'll see when and if you play again.

However, that's all I'll say on the subject, no need to take the point of this thread away; such being telling me how great I am and setting up inflated expectations only to be dashed horribly on our wedding night.

I seem to have veered off course.

Ahem.  Yes.

I loved the hyperliminal advertizing in the trailer. "you want... to play this game... 'cause it's good. I made it."

Just one question - does this still fit into the RON canon? A lot's happened in the town since ye first started on it. Have ye checked the timeline, made sure everythings all kosher?

Hmm.. I'd say, from the overall atmosphere of the game this isn't much of an issue. In fact, it could quite easily take place in several timezones.

Wooooohoooo!!! Edge of Reality is back! I remember playing the first part of the game many years ago, when I joined the RON community. Ahhhh, the memories! Weird puzzles, brilliant descriptions, bizarre inventory items, tons of bugs  ;) Truly, the greatest RON game ever! Cheers, Blake!

Having played the first part, I was wondering if the promised remainder of this game was ever coming out.  It had been long enough I'd assumed it wasn't.

If nothing else, it'll be good to at least have a version of the first part that doesn't crash the game when I look at the color sample sheet;)

Just seen the trailer. Legend it was too.

Really REALLY looking forward to this one. I gave the demo a once over a year or so ago, was disappointed it didn't go further. Or so I thought...

Oh, yeah, sure. You have an editor who edits all your posts. That's completely believable.  ;)
