GEMINI RUE is a neo-noir, full length point 'n click adventure game, encompassing a dual narrative.
It follows the story of Azriel Odin, an ex-assassin, trying to bring down the notorious crime group, the Boryokudan, and the story of Delta-Six, an amnesiac patient who must escape his imprisonment before he loses his identity.
GEMINI RUE features traditional adventure game elements, such as puzzle-solving, dialog systems, and more, but also incorporates more unorthodox features, including an action system, and an investigations system. GEMINI RUE was a winner of the Student Showcase Award in the 2010 Independent Games Festival chosen from more than over 190 entries.

November 18, 2009- Updated Game info.
- New Blog post.
February 5, 2009- New screenshot + updated old screenshots
- Added/modified game info a bit
- Changed classic Lucas Arts font
- Release date: I'm not going to give one for fear of it biting me back, but I will say that a large majority of the work is done. The game has been in production for just over a year now, and things have been somewhat on schedule for the most part. There is a 90% chance it will be completed at the MOST within a year.
September 18, 2008Current team includes myself, and Nathan Allen Pinard on music. I'm trying to remain somewhat reclusive about the game's story and features, and leave that for a surprise when the game is released. The game has been in production for about eight months now, but I won't announce any tentative release dates yet.
Those graphics are beyond beautiful, and you've said little enough about the plot that I'm well intrigued :) Definitely a game to watch!
(Although I have to ask why people are leaving guns lying about in a facility meant for holding prisoners ;) )
Great graphics. Cant wait to play it. ;)
Loved La Croix Pan, this looks awesome, so I am happy.
(Brought to you by the Economic Messages of Finite Encouragement Bureau)
Always loved JBurger's stuff, ever since I saw a post of his with Anime Char's in it awhile back,
Then there was his wizard sprite, during one of the contests, May was it?
Needless to say, I'm a fan...
There I admitted it!
LEAVE JBURGER ALONE! (hehe couldn't resist) -Chris Crocker Parody (for ppl that don't get the ref, google it)
Knowing Nathan better than JBurger I can only know that it's going to be a GREAT game!
Knowing Vince much better than Nathan (Vince and JBurger seem to be connected at some points and Vince hosted le croix paix a while back), I know my trust for JBurger won't be misplaced!
Looking at the scrennies it makes me drool!
JBurger, such work, I find, should be commercial. If not maybe a paypal account so I could donate a few $?
Finally, no matter how much I love the art and care for you two guys, the classic font, in the text, seems quite bad to me.
[/critics lounge]
looking forward to this game! :) and the thread is bookmarked!
I've been waiting for a hint from TheJBurger about his next project and am not disappointed.
I look forward to seeing further information/playing the game :).
Wow.
Visuals are outstanding. Very stylish.
Good luck finishing! ...and extra good luck staying reclusive.
This game looks excellent :o
Definitly on my must download list.
Keep up the good work.
Wow. Looks really great! I wish you good luck in finishing this game.
Looks amazing JBurger! :D
Looks incredible!
Best of luck in finishing it!!
Looks very nice! I'd like to play it.
I would suggest changing the font, I think it lets down the otherwise nice visuals.
Thanks for the comments, everyone!
@Nikolas & robvalue: Interesting point about the font. I'll definitely take that into consideration.
Looking great as expected from you. One thing I was wondering, are these stories related? I guess they must be otherwise it's kinda silly including then in one game
I love your art, TheJburger.
This looks like a good game in the making.
Good luck.
There's nothing left to say but to second what everyone else has stated. Looks promising!
I really don't want you to give away anything, but I've got a question about the title of the game: Boryokudan, as I understand it, is the Japanese term to describe organized crime. Is "rue" also a Japanese word, or is it the French "rue", meaning "street"?
I really like the title, it is very original.

Thanks. I was worried about the title since I just came up with it, and I hadn't even had a title for the past eight months. You are correct about the word Boryokudan (I hope, otherwise I'm wrong too). As for 'rue', this is the definition I'm using:
QuoteRepentance, regret; Pity, compassion; (transitive) To make (someone) repent of sin or regret some past action; (transitive) To make (someone) feel sorrow or pity; To repent of or regret (some past action or event); to wish a past action undone; (intransitive) To feel compassion or pity
I wanted to say it looks good, but that would be a understatement,
Looks great as usual J! Looks like I've got a new game atop my most-anticipated list! Let me know if I can do anything to help.
wow, looks impressive! good work!
ehm.. need a beta tester?
Wow J, your Burger really has some special sauce!
wow, looks great, jburger.
I especially love that first top left outside screenshot.
can't wait.
It's awesome to be part of a project like this. The art in this game is simply astounding.
EDIT: Good name choice btw.
Looks lovely ;D.
Another game to look forward to :P.
Great! I like sci-fi adventures! Good graphics!
I wonder how I've missed this thread... It looks unique and very interesting. Best of luck JB!
Wow, I need to wipe some drool off of my keyboard after looking at those pictures. Great work!

I must say, this game looks very similar to the SNES game "Clock Tower"
Very stylistic...
Well, do you remember Future Wars? Your game has it's looks, and that is great feature ;)
Keep it up!
Woah those graphics are really stunning! I really look forward to this game.
Looks great, are the two stories related?

I have never fully played
Future Wars or
Clock Tower, but I'm sure I've glanced at them in the past. I can't say that the graphics are inspired by them, though. Thanks anyway!

I sure hope so, because it kind of wouldn't make sense to include two completely unrelated stories. But then again...

Yup, they are related alright. No worries there lol
Especially that part where *this post has been edited by magic forum pixies*
I love the graphics too. And the concept does sound intriguing.
Were you inspired by Beneath a Steel Sky by any chance? No?..
OMG this really looks amazing, can't wait to play it..
Film Noir, science fiction, great graphics?
Im in ;D.
Gorgeuos graphics.
also I find the font totally appropriate. :)
I'm anticipating this with awe. I really like the graphics. It reminds me of a game called Prisoner of Ice. Kind of. I'm sure this will kick ass.
Oh wow, this looks great. Lookin' forward to playing this when its out.

Something about the story goes here:

Project is still alive and well and rolling along. And thanks to everyone for the positive feedback so far!
The old screenshots are great. The new screenshot is great.
It's all great, basically :=
Oh, and interesting speech portrait style!
Great to see this is still on track!
The new screenshot looks brilliant!
This is definatly a game I will be playing when it comes out! ;D.
Also looking forward to see what the "never to be explained" non-standard adventure-game play is! :P.
I suppose it's my turn to tease people:
http://www.nathanallenpinard.com/music/BR-Room1.mp3
Ooh very stylish. I like it :D
Reminds me of the Blade Runner music by Vangelis. Which is by no means a bad thing! The whole project is looking great!
After being very impressed by the screenshots and of course the underlying game (idea), I assembled a desktop wallpaper:
Full Resolution (http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/4052/brwallpaper1024x768altoo3.png)
Looking forward to see, hear and play more; it reminds of "Innocent until caught", "Beneath a Steel Sky" and "Guilty".
The new screen is really sweet. :D
Sound Design Update:
I've been working on the sound design for BR for about a week now. Mainly writing down what should go where. As we're adding more and more sounds, this game is starting to sound alive. In due time, we'll be adding music as well, which will hopefully have a cinematic feel to it.
I'm confident when this is done, you will all be very pleased with this project. I know I'm having fun!
Nathan, I KNOW you'll be doing some bad a$$ job! And I guess you're having fun, I'm always having fun with computer games, especially games that seem SO AWESOME as this one does! ;)
Take care bud... Hope to catch you on Skype at some point...
(BTW, Just one question for comparison purposes. Could you spare the details on how many sfx you have per room (average), cause I think I'm slightly overdoing it... :-[)
Well, every single room I've assigned some kind of room ambiance, because I hate it when there is no ambiance. Darkfall (by a dev in your country btw) has nothing but music in their game ambiance wise, and that's something that really seems unfinished to me.
After that I pretty much have a sound for almost everything planned. Whether JBurger wants to spend the time programming that in is up to him.
I don't think there really is "over doing it" even with nostalgic games.
Let me give you an example:
In that first scene with the rain, I have a loopable rain "track" that pretty much plays like music. The rain track also has a few things added to it within the track to give a bit more life, like a siren in the distance. I also gave 2 other varieties of rain, so when switching room it feels like your moving. One which was designed with heavy rain, and one which is light.
After that I have the terminal there in the picture make sounds when clicking buttons, as well as a voice over that will talk to you (as if it was the computer) that happens throughout the game. Then I have a sound when you try to open certain things and they do, or do not open, both have sounds.
I hope that makes sense. I don't think your overdoing it.
And I don't think I have you on skype. Mine is sonrise03 (id)
EDIT: I probably won't do footsteps, but we'll see.
Just letting everyone know this is going. I've been working on the sound and music, but slowly. So the delay of this release is entirely my fault :P

Shame on you! :P
The top quality of this game will forgive any delay...
Agreed, this looks absolutely awesome - Sci-fi and film noir? Parallel storylines? Count me in!
And the music teaser does indeed sound very Vangelis/Blade Runner-ish, but I love that, and the tune sounds great, so I couldn't be more excited about this! Really looking forward to the finished game! :)
In case you missed it over here (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=38572.0), there is an article up on a Hardy Dev's blog about Boryokudan Rue with exclusive(!) screenshots: http://hardydev.com/2009/11/18/visually-directing-the-player/
Edit: Also updated the first post with more information as the game nears completion.
The screenies are awesome, and - to be honest - this is the AGS project I'm currently most anticipating. Wish you well with further development.
Wow very nice!!
Cant wait to play it :)
The graphics look impressive, and the story sounds interesting too. Can't wait to play this.
Hey everybody,
IndieGames.com has some very nice things to say about Boryokudan Rue in their "10 Indie Games to Watch Out For in 2010." (http://www.indiegames.com/blog/2009/12/10_indie_games_to_watch_out_fo.html)
In particular, the author says:
Quote
This is just insanely brilliant adventure gaming. The story contains some of the best plot and dialogue I've seen in a good while, and the hand-painting scenes look gorgeous. In addition to the traditional point-and-clicking, there are also action scenes which require timing and precision. There's a 'kick' verb too! Adventure gaming fans need to keep this one in their radar.
I can't wait for this game, I hope there will be voice acting :D?
Looks good, certainly strong art ability, I'll be keeping an eye out for this one. :)
IGF student showcase finalist baby! (http://www.igf.com/10studentfinalists.html) Congrats JBurg!
Congrats indeed! Nice article on Hardydev as well...
Is now the time to announce a release date? *nudge**nudge* :P
Nice work at the graphics there,
film-noir style reminds me a bit of the McCarthy Chronicles.
Adding on to J.H., voice-acting would be very good as well, for such film-noir inspired games. Award-winning McCarthy Chronicles (Episode 1) should prove to be a good reference.
Good job though, and the two interweaving narratives sound very interesting.
Looking forward to your creation. ;D
Thanks, guys!
I don't think the reality of being a student finalist has hit me yet, but the notion of going to GDC sounds nice. :P
Dude that's awesome!
Congrats!
Man congratulations, from what I've seen this game deserves it!
Congratulations mate!
"Adding on to J.H., voice-acting would be very good as well, for such film-noir inspired games. Award-winning McCarthy Chronicles (Episode 1) should prove to be a good reference."
Well, I was pushing to have one voice (which is kind of unorthodox) to be treated more like a sound effect.
But the direction of this game has changed so we'll have to brainstorm about that. Ultimately it's up to JBurger.
ANNOUNCEMENT:
Hey all. After much deliberation and thinking over the past several months, I have decided to make Boryokudan Rue a commercial release, although a release date has not yet been decided.
I had been contemplating the merits of releasing it free vs. paid for the past several months, and this decision comes only after much discussion with both friends and colleagues. After nearly two years of working on the game and putting in many, many hours of my own time into the project, I decided that it would be best for me to release it commercially. This announcement, although coming after the IGF nomination, was not directly influenced by that decision, although it was a great encouragement.
At this time, a release date and cost has not yet been decided, but I hope that this decision will allow me to improve the quality much more.
I hope you all understand my decision, as I do not wish to ignore an audience that is dedicated to playing and supporting adventure games, free or otherwise.
Thanks for all your support on this project, and I appreciate all your encouragement!
Yes! I'm glad it'll be a commercial release I think more people should do this for such big projects it seems to get more notoriety and a more professional feel to the game. Can't wait for a demo ;)
Your making it a commercial game won't stop me.
I will have to purchase it.
Extra burden now. (Boy do I know how to encourage others). We're now customers!
Seriously, I think it's a bold move. I've always found your graphic style to be mind-blowing and breath-taking. I really hope for a demo at least as soon as possible, but I'm buying it!
Anyway, best of luck, you've taken a big step!
Official Trailer 1 up now!

I was gonna say Holy. Fucking. Shit. But that works too. Looks incredible!
Great trailer!
The game looks terrific. I think I'll be coughing up the cash when the time comes...
Are you going to self-publish, or maybe sign up with Dave Gilbert?
Very excited about this, now.
I think adventure gaming truely is on the way back!
Oh my! I don't think I'm worthy working with the same program that is used to create games like this. Very, very excited for this!
An easily justified decision considering the game you have made.
Exciting news.
Definitely looking forward to kicking some doors down in this one :P
Wow! Amazing trailer. :o
I look forward to buying a copy (or two) when it's ready.
Is there voice acting at all?
Red Talon
Receiving news that it is becoming a commercial release really makes me want to cry T.T
Okay, I'm joking here. ;D
Anyway, this just means that I'll have to fork out good money for a good game I have been waiting good time for.
Commercial Games never upset me. I don't mind paying if the game is good and the price is reasonable. I think Downfall is a good example. 10 dollars and a game that kicks the crap out of games you could find at, say, a Best Buy in the $10 value games section...
This looks amazing, and as long as the price isn't sky-high, count me in.
I support your decision, and as long as it costs less than 30 dollars I'll buy two (one as a present for my brother, and one for me of course), otherwise I'll just buy one ;D
As I said on Hardy, but moreover, I just thought this compared to other adventures is just another adventure. But from the trailer it seems that: The other adventures compared to this, are just adventures..this one's a mindblowing thing of some short. Loved the action sequences..man, I'm so thrilled !!
My god, your trailer is fantastic! This looks right up my street! Absolutely perfect animations and a terrific amount of detail, i love the rain splashes.
I'm glad you're going commercial, i will most definitely buy it (feel free to hold me to that!).
I'm still intrigued by the comment on the blog that it was entered by "pretending" to be a student game? Is it not then a student game?
It's a student game. I just used an awkward word choice, "pretense," to say that I entered it as a student game.
Hope that clarifies it.
Well...I'll pretty much fork over whatever it costs for a *good* commercial game. And this game looks, well, (for lack of a more eloquent word...) well, BADASS actually. Can't wait! Get it out already!! ;D j/k (sorta)

It clarifies your behaviour, yes. Thanks.
Nooooooooo! Now I have to pay for entertainment created through many hard-working hours? What has the world come to?!
On a serious note. I might get this as the first commercial AGS game I've ever purchased, although it'd be nice if you made a demo when you release it.
This game is awesome. I'm waiting for it! Good work!
If anyone's curious, I talked to the man himself about the game last week.
Interview here: http://www.diygamer.com/2010/02/future-gaming-boryokudan-rue
Great work!
This looks very beautiful.
Doing an adventuregame in crime noir style is a cool idea.
Working pretty extensively on tracks. I finally went through the whole game. Honestly a great game (not biased)
Awesome music and sound though. The best ever! (biased)
Anyway, I"m hoping for a nice selection of music with minimal repeats.
I just keep getting more and more excited about this! Very promising to hear it is playable to the end already. The trailer music was fab so this should be all round fantastic! :)

Hot news! Mann, i'm waiting on this. Seriously hyped about this release, it got me playing BASS again.
Awesome trailer! Really, really looking forward to this and going commercial is completely justified - i'm always keen to support indie projects so i'm grateful i'll have the chance to buy.
AGS has been on my "to learn" list for nearly two years now :-[ since I researched traditional adventure games for coursework. Boryokudan Rue really shows what can be done with the right skill and enthusiasm, and is really inspiring.
Keep up the good work!
This looks like the first commercial AGS game I'll actually be buying.

Hey, not so much with the exclamation marks... I've got to try to make screenshots sound exciting somehow!! ;D
Well it would seem JBurger won't be bringing home a prize, but honestly there were a LOT of great games this year.
Also..some people just don't get the point-and-click style. Some never did.
Didn't win! (But the competition was great, so it's all good)
I'm finding out very fast that it's hard to demo a slow-paced, story-driven adventure game to an audience of passer-bys with only two minutes to spare.

Edit: With that being said, I'm sorry to hear you didn't win. My impression from the trailer is that we're in for something quite unique, and certainly a beautifully produced game. I have no idea whether it's any less "innovative" than the other nominees, but as you say, it's much harder to convey the core concepts and game mechanics of an adventure game in a trailer or a brief demo.

Congrats on at least being nominated. You were up against some impressive and innovative products by students and you made the top five. Thing is with these indie types, they do like their 'innovative' gameplay (although innovative sometimes gets in the way of gameplay), and your game, while interesting and pretty, is still at its core an adventure game.
BR was really the only game up there that wasn't a full blown puzzle game. Even though it has obstacles in it, it's slightly different.
Every single other entry seemed to be some kind of puzzle game.

Except Igneous surely...
Either way, maybe next time (the grand one? :P), hope the promotion goes well... I can't imagine trying to show off an adventure game to attention-defecit prone passers-by... probably need to have a short puzzle lead to one of your action scenes or something...
Nah, most people who came up were adventure-game fans, except the nature of the story and not knowing what to do drove them off after wandering aimlessly.
Eventually, I just used the tutorial for the action-sequences to demo off, and that seemed to work well. People would play for 5-10 minutes instead of just 1 or 2.
My Post GDC writeup: http://jburger.blogspot.com/2010/03/igf-aftermath.html
We're still working on this! There are a few design changes TheJBurger is making, and I'm currently working on mastering a Boryokudan Rue OST, as well as some other things.
Here's some music cues from BR to tide you over:

Hey guys!
This month's issue (May) of Game Developer magazine (http://www.gdmag.com/homepage.htm) has a 1 page write up on Boryokudan Rue!
Here is the article: http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/5466/gamedeveloperboryokudan.jpg
Edit - Better version (courtesy of Edmundo): http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/6773/brgamedeveloperarticle.jpg
Nice interview.
Seems like I must finally watch Cowboy Bebop. Somehow I never treated it seriously, but if you say it was the main inspiration for the amazing BR look...
Hey everybody!
Very important news regarding Boryokudan Rue: I have decided to change the title to "Gemini Rue."
Reasons are for both artistic and practical purposes. Hopefully you all can update your bookmarks and change every mention of the game so far in existence to "Gemini Rue," 1984 style.
Thanks!
Josh
Awwww, I really loved the Boryokudan one... :(
Not a bad change, but I loved the original title, that's all. You can disregard me.
Seriously?! Or am I missing something? (Typical me) Personally I liked the name "Boryokudan Rue". :'(
I understand if it was for artistic reasons - whatever they may be - but if practical reasons is just so people can pronounce it..well that always set it apart.
Oh well, I'm sad to see it go, but it doesn't change what promises to be a fantastic game.
Oh wow, it finally happened, you changed the name! :D I'm sure I wasn't the only one but I remember I suggested a name change when I betatested the game!
I DID love "Boryokudan" but damn was it hard to remember and spell. Especially now that you go commercial this should be much better and improve sales.
Easier to spell, definitely. Though I must admit I'm still not sure whether the 'Rue' part is supposed to be read as 'repentance' or the French word for 'street'. As for what the full title means - haven't got a clue. Doesn't mean I'm not looking very much forward to game :)
Ahh, Man. I always thought Boryokudan Rue was an awesome title. But you've chosen a pretty good name to replace it with.
I guess now would be a perfect time to announce that our game title is being changed to Moon Base: Boryokudan. ;)
Also, Frantic Franko's new full title is "Frantic Franko: A Bergzwerg Goes Boryokudan". ;)
The Boryokudan Gene. Sorry.
I completely understand why you changed the title and I reckon it was the right decision.
This looks nice, I'm looking forward to it!
I understand why you changed the name, the first time I heard the name it sounded like some sort of obscure JRPG.
It looks pretty sweet though. ;D
I don't like either title.
I think they are rather offputting - they make the game sound obscure and foreign.
Gemini Rue is slightly better, but only slightly.
I just thought I'd voice that opinion, since you are making a name change anyway.
The game looks pretty awesome!

...and that is a bad thing, naturally, is it!!?? :P
I loved the first title! I was immediately intrigued, the first time I read it and it became instantly lodged in my head. It was not an easy titel, but an onomatopoeic and demanding one. You had to wrap your brains around it.
I prefer a certain amount of obscurity, ('Linus Bruckman", 'Grim Fandango' etc.), it creates tension and interest in my opinion. Personally I dislike titles which are overly simplified and hand you everything on a silver platter!
edit: Just reread my post. The second statement stands in no reference to your new title, JBurger. It's merely
a very personal remark on game titles in general. 'Boryokudan Rue' did rock though! :'( ;D

Seconded! :D
The original title was all very intriguing and fine, but it had one condemning property - it was almost impossible to repeat, quote, search in google etc. Well, unless you did happen to know that B-word from Japanese.
Gemini Rue is a good choice.
;D Isn't that kind of obsolete Ascovel? We are the copy&paste-generation! :P

copy&paste is really slow. Like very really.
I like both names. Boryokudan was rad when I got the hang of pronouncing it, but Gemini is muuuch easier to remember, say, read, and search for.
Great E3 video interview with Josh (http://www.indiegames.com/blog/2010/07/e3_video_gemini_rue_designer_i_1.html) on IndieGames blog. An awesome treat for anyone curious how Josh looks in real life, but also a brilliant promotion of indie adventure games and AGS.
Curiosity satisfied=)
Great interview, and my favourite sound bite from Josh sums up some recent thoughts of mine pretty well:
Quote from: Joshua NuernbergerWhen I look back on all the games i've played, the ones that had the most emotional connection with me, were games that had great stories, and great characters.
Time to Tweet this baby.
I'm looking forward to this. Regarding the name change, I still think it's easy to misread "Rue" as "Rule" and with "Gemini" being a more familiar word its just easier. But I do like the name, even if it's not as unique as the old name.
Perhaps registering "Gemini Rule" just so searches will redirect to this game is a good idea...
The best thing about the new name is that it can be lovingly shortened to G-Rue. ;D
It is pitch black.
I actually rather liked the old name better, but that's just me. The new name isn't so bad. I've played quite a few games with weird or bad names that were awesome and this game sounds like it will be pretty good. You could change the name to Jacked In and I would still play it.
One of my favourite things about the game was the old name. Either way I literally cannot wait to play it and pray that there will be full voice acting :D.
I'm looking forward to this game bigtime. The mood is spot on. Consider me a customer if the price isn't too steep (and if the payment options suit me.)
Try to put this game on steam, and by all means, I'll buy it. That award will look nice on the steam store page.
Also, the art style reminds me of countdown, but it ends up looking better because it's not real life footage scaled down but hand drawn sprites.
The screenshots look mind-blowing. I am very curious to see the finished product.
I keep watching that trailer insanely. It really feels that this game will mind-blown us. I'd like to see any Cowboy Bebop references (if any). Presuming that it's Spike Stiegel on your profile picture. ;)
Quick update:
PC Gamer Issue 204 (September 2010) has a short preview on Gemini Rue. It's page 42, right after Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Fallout 3: New Vegas, and Dead Space 2. :D
Sweet! Frankly, I'm looking forward to GR way more than any of those games. Glad to see you're getting a lot of pre-release coverage.
Cool! Congrats on the coverage. :)

Congrats on being so close to release! Must feel good!
Hey, yes, we made a press announcement. :=
New Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1hKT075w6w

Official press release is as follows:
Quote
Neo-Noir Thriller Gemini Rue Coming February 24 from Wadjet Eye Games
Independent Game Festival winner transports players to a corrupt future for an intense, old-school adventure
NEW YORK, January 11, 2011 – Independent publisher Wadjet Eye Games and developer Joshua Nuernberger are announcing a partnership to commercially release Gemini Rue for PC. This retro-style adventure game, which combines creative point and click gameplay with a gripping sci-fi / noir narrative, was an Independent Game Festival Student Showcase winner in 2010. Gemini Rue will release February 24 from http://www.geminirue.com, with preorders starting today.
Gemini Rue (formerly known as Boryokudan Rue) is an intense adventure set in a bleak future dominated by the corrupt Boryokudan crime syndicate. Players assume the roles of two very different characters: Azriel Odin, an ex-assassin searching for a defector from the Gemini system, and "Delta-Six," a hospital inmate whose memory has been wiped by mysterious, Big Brother types. As fate brings the two men together, players explore a world where life is cheap, identities are bought and sold, and a simple quest for redemption can change an entire galaxy's fate.
Created with the Adventure Game Studio engine, Gemini Rue features a verb-based interface, hand-painted backgrounds, professional voice acting, and an original soundtrack composed by Nathan Allen Pinard. In-game commentary can be turned on to reveal development insights and bloopers, providing replay value.
"When Josh first showed us Gemini Rue, we knew we had something very special on our hands," says Dave Gilbert, Wadjet Eye Games' founder and CEO. "It's the type of game that keeps you on the edge of your seat. We played until we couldn't keep our eyes open, then eagerly started playing again when we woke up. Working with Josh to finish up the game has been a blast, and we're excited to finally share it with the world!"
Starting today, Gemini Rue can be preordered in both downloadable and limited edition CD versions. The download costs $14.99 and will be made available to purchasers upon Gemini Rue's February 24 release. The limited edition CD, which will only be sold during the preorder period, costs $24.99 including free shipping worldwide. Expected to ship in March, the CD release will include the game, a full MP3 soundtrack, and professional packaging, as well as free access to the downloadable version when Gemini Rue launches online.
To get a first look at the game or place a preorder, visit the official Gemini Rue website at http://www.geminirue.com.

Just preordered the cd version. :)
I'm drooling over those screenshots and the YouTube trailer. ;D
I knew you were working with Wadjet Eye, I just knew it! :D
Does it have translation for the text or just plain English?
Whee. I can talk about this now.
Yep, we've been working on the game for the last four months, mostly adding voice acting, fixing bugs, and creating new talking portraits. It's been a blast working Josh and Nathan, as well as all the voice actors. I've had to increase my crew of actors significantly, since this is without a doubt the biggest game I've ever published. Pretty exciting!
And in case you wanted to see the lovely poster (by Karen Petrasko (http://www.karenpetrasko.com)):

Woohoo!
I've already preordered :-)
Although, I stupidly put my home address when I'm still in Japan for the next 8 months - still, I'll download it on release day and then look forward to my special package when I get home.
Congratulations Josh and Dave and everyone involved!
This is a great start to the year for AGS!.
Congrats. It's nice to see that good looking games get finished once in a while.
(I do hope mine will fall in this category)

I'm really glad that the release date for this game is so close ;D, I really like this game and I can hardly wait ;D
Silly me :-[, I realise now that I've played one of your games before: "Emerald City Confidential" and I enjoyed it a lot, so I went to your web to see more of your games and although the Blackwell games may not be my kind of story, or at least that is what I thought, I've downloaded the demo and I 've to say that I loved it, the game has a really really good narrative and direction, also the game is beautiful with great music and the voice of the female protagonist is amazing and very immersive so... I think I'm going for the bundle too ;D
Anyway, all this to say that from now on You have a new fan ;D
I will be buying Gemini Rue for sure! Can't wait for Feb 24th!!!
My question is...I know this is an "adventure game", but is it going to have a lot of action sequences too? Because that is definately NOT my thing. It woudn't keep me from buying the game, but I'm just curious to know how much of the game is timed shoot-out type stuff...
Cheers,
Sarah
For those worried about the action scenes!
1) There are not *a lot* of action scenes in the game, and the ones that exist are spaced out enough so that you will not get stuck on one sequence for too long. Each action scene can be completed relatively quickly, provided you know what to do.
2) The action scenes, in a sense, are more puzzle-like than traditional action gameplay, as they don't require you to mash buttons per se, but rather require you to think about what you're doing and figure out the best course of action.
3) There will be an EASY mode for those less familiar with action elements, but the mode will still capture the essence of what the action contributes to the game.
Hope that answers any concerns!
Just pre-ordered the limited edition CD, can't wait :)

Seconded, both the Indy part and the one-hell-of-a-game part.
Generally speaking I'm not a huge fan of action elements in adventure games, but I'm interested to see what it's like. I do enjoy seeing interesting things being done with AGS, though.
How do these action sequences work? Are they similar to the shooting sequence in La Croix Pan? That game was a great use of AGS.

They're similar in that they're real-time, but different in that in Gemini Rue the action revolves around a cover system. In that way, the player is not always at risk of getting shot, but must time it appropriately when to pop out and risk their life to shoot.
