The demo should be out by Wednesday, it features the intro and chapter 1 called "the slip".

Also here are the chapter names, open to speculation.

Chapter 1: The Slip
Chapter 2: Inanimacy
Chapter 3: Double back
Chapter 4: Infiltration
Chapter 5: Titanium Cog

If anyone can tell me the video game series reference in one of those titles I'll be happy to let you be one of the beta testers when that comes around.

To give you an idea of the legth of the game, knowing exactly what to do, it still takes me around 45 minutes to play through the demo, so I assume that it would take around 1 hour 15 minutes or so if you needed to figure stuff out... I guess.

mwahahaha

In the interests of avoiding distraction, I have made the executive decision to release the demo without music or sound TODAY.

I will post the link as soon as I've uploaded it.

NOTE: there's a good chance of a re-release with sound, but not straight away.

Elliott Hird

Titanium Cog = Metal Gear

Can I be a beta tester now? :D

mwahahaha

Yep, sure.  When the final thing is done.

In other news, I had to put off the demo's release because of hosting problems.

If anyone has played it, please tell me what you think.Ã,  Also, I found a problem in one of the rooms towards the end, making it impossible to actually finish the game.Ã,  There should be a patched version soon.

Also: STORY UPDATE!

After being kicked out of the mafia, Jirb continues on his quest to find mario.  Upon stumbling across a warehouse and discovering a top secret project, the army kidnap him and force him into their ranks.

ManicMatt

Okay, I played up until the the first chapter started. (I PM'ed you about the file thing)

I like the crazy world, and the main character looks different enough from any game character I can think of!

Here are my crits/suggestions:

1)The character's walk speed could do with being sped up slightly.
2)The Black cursor often makes it hard to make out where the cursor is sometimes and what action you are on.
3)There is a definite lack of interaction with the world. I hope you put in more things for Jirb to respond to.
4)Does Jirb need to be clickable? Unless there is a puzzle where you need to use items on Jirb it's annoying when he stands in front of things. (Can be said for any game with this feature)
5)He could really do with a walk down and walk up animation! Don't be lazy!
6)You should animate the smoke in that room.

I hope I don't sound too negative, I just want to help you make your game even better!

Yeh, I've heard a lot of those critisisms before for friends, ect.  With the walk speed, I'll get right on it as well as the down animation.
I'll get onto the interaction when I remake the opening a bit later.
The cursors will alos be changed asap, I might even just put a red dot where the cursor point is or something.

To describe the bug, basically there's a area that is taller that 320 pixels, and I forgot to move the top boundry down a little.  Other than that, it's fine as far as major bugs go (except that sometimes you jump from the first room straight to the third... oddly enough).

mwahahaha

Ok, all the problems are fixed, apart from the animated smoke and the interaction thing, I seem to be uninspired at the moment...

Elliott Hird

Hmm... in windowed mode it's really hard to change room - make those edges/hotspots bigger!

mwahahaha

The demo V1.2 is available to download today.

Changes include:
A down animation for the main character.
Fixed the game ruining problem with room 26
A new GUI for the top of the screen which is far more compact and functional.
Changed the code so that right click opens the inventory window.
Made the coin easier to pick up.
Added red dots to the cursors to make them easier to see.

mwahahaha

Sorry, I forgot to post the link, but I expect you were capable of finding it yourself.
Download it from here

Also, please tell me what you think of the new interface and any other changes.

mwahahaha

Unless you haven't noticed, I've come up with a new name for Part 1, "Choking Hazard".

In other news, I'm seeking feedback on the version 1.2 demo.  So please tell me if you liked it, didn't like it, it was to hard, or any other complaints.

mwahahaha

Anywho... I got fed up with the bad environments early on so I decided to remake them, starting with Jirbs house.Ã,

The laptop will serve some purpose, but I'm not sure what it will be yet.

Also, a lot of the characters are now getting improved walking, talking and idle animations, as well as the story being pushed ahead and various other new additions and changes.

Tails

You look like you have combined actual graphic talent with MSPaint...Looks like it could be fun but er...it is a joke right?

mwahahaha

If you mean to ask, "Is the game a ridiculous and funny game?" Then yes.  But if you mean "Is this just all one big joke?" Then no, why the hell would I have bothered with a 1 and a half hour demo? (NOTE: demo only 1.5 hours if you play slowly... or get lost)

Ok, I know its been almost 2 years, but I've finally started work on the game again.

Firstly, I fixed the demo completely, and it now works. (with the right starting room, etc.)

When I tried downloading and playing it, it work fine except that the resolution appears to have bugged in some stage of the process, if anyone else gets this problem, let me know and I'll try to fix it.

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=671

and yes the early environments still need work.

EDIT: Ok, I tried making the file a .zip and putting in the setup exe, should work fine now.

mwahahaha

Well, news from the production trail, I've fixed most of the notable graphical issues associated with chapter one, as well as removing a room and adding some finishing touches to some of the rooms.  Simularly, the first puzzle or so of chapter 2 are complete, but at teh moment the game ends with a room where you can't do anything that I made back when I first worked on the game.

As I begin to create new environments and characters I'll be posting some screenies, probably in the next few weeks.

Dualnames

I'll be eagerly waiting... :o I thought this game was off production. But an old style ressurection isn't bad..
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)
