06/01/06 UPDATE:  SCREEEEE!  Hit the brakes.  This is going to be held off a month while I prepare a game for the MAGS Anniversary contest.  Hope to see you all there, cheers!

I know this is going to be a controversial one, but it just seems too good to pass up...I'm starting a 32-bit, 640x480 graphical remake of Nord and Bert Couldn't Make Head or Tail of It, the Shake a Tower section to start.Ã,  I figure if it goes well, I'll work on other sections too, then combine them all into one game if I ever finish.Ã,  I've loved text games my whole life, and N&B was a true classic.Ã,  I'm planning on adapting the text interface by:

- Making it a first-person perspective, you never see yourself.
- Having the mouse highlight-name characters and objects (Monkey Island style) so the puns don't get lost.
- Heavily playing and recording N&B to get all possible responses for inputting in the text parser.

Basically I'm going to make it as exactly true to the original game as is possible without being able to see the source code myself.Ã,  It'll play just like the original, typing in your commands to progress, the only difference being you get to watch what happens as well.Ã,  And I'm having tons of fun with the animations, making things morph magically into other things. :)

I figure I'll probably have this done in two, three months tops.Ã,  And for any worried brows, I swear, I'll treat this game with all the respect it deserves.Ã,  Here are two rough-draft screenshots, 'twill be cleaned up later:

Let me know what you think, and I look forward to making this!Ã,  Cheers!

This will be a real challenge, but it'll be hilarious if it you pull it off. I'm glad you haven't tried to get rid of the text parser. Good luck!

Thanks, and yeah, the text is definitely staying in - it's the most important part of the game, after all.  The only thing I'm even going to simplify is that the cursor will be able to switch between the Eye and Hand icons, to save finger wear-n'-tear instead of having to type "look at" or "take" like you do in the original.  (Although they'll still be available for people that like typing.) :)

Woogh - I always hate seeing my backgrounds on other computers...I don't know what it is about my screen at home that makes things perfect there, then makes them waaay brighter whenever I see them on other screens.  I've got the Brightness of my monitor turned up as high as it goes!  I think I'll finalize the graphics on another computer, to be sure.

Oh, and if anybody *does* know of a way to get the actual source code out of the game, I'd be much obliged...I really want to make sure I've programmed every possible response the original included.  Thanks!
