Looks great!! Looks a bit too devious for a small town business man. He looks a bit too much like a mobster. I think it's because of the hair and the eyes. Maybe you should bring his eyebrows a bit higher. Just a suggestion.

lol i understand what you mean, but as i say, the sprite will reveal more, i cant give too much away right now but..... :P

ok here's the twist.  ;D

Bare in mind this is UBEr rough, so dont worry if you think the proportion/perspective/design is tits up ;)

I was originally going to go with the usual fortune teller style machine, but i thought this would be a little more interesting, and give me a chance to make a really funny character. If you look on the map  i did a while back youll see the box is actually there. :)

When you do the final version, you might try varying your spelling. For instance, I find "attorney" less alarming.

It all makes sense now.

Maybe a little. But seriously, now that I see how the whole thing will look, I think he just looks perfect. He kinda has that slick-city-slicker-lawyer feel, which would totally suit a novelty law advise machine.

And btw, it's 'Attorney at Law' not 'Attorney of Law'. Sorry to ruin the concept. I dont' know how to abbreviate the 'at' preposition.

DanClarke

Thanks im glad you like it :) i guess an attorney(!) inside a glass vending box will never really 'make sense' as such ;)

Hi Dan!

Your characters and backgrounds look just fantastic! Proffesional quality, really! I wish you from all my heart that you finish this game successfully.

It is probably not a good idea to say this on an AGS forum, but if the fact that AGS doesn't run on a Mac is giving you trouble, there are other free game engines that you can use, and some of them are portable, so they should run on a Mac.

And also it is possible to write an engine from scratch (tailored to the needs of the specific game) -- this game more than deserves it. It's actually much less work to write an engine, than to create the rest of the game.

Anyway, in case you need someone to program it, I am a student of computer sciences with 17 years of programming experience and it would be my utmost pleasure to work hard in order to make this game a success. Want me to script it in AGS? To write a complete new engine? Name it, I'll do it.

If not, you just got another dedicated fan, that can't wait to be able to play the game!

HAHA! Man your Attourney o' Law is killing me! He looks so...errm..reliable!
I also like your fat fisherman (specially the detail of his backfat swelling out of his pants), but I would add the typical wings of his hat (the ones to cover the ears...you had them already in your ruff)..maybe that and a checkered pattern on his shirt..(at the moment he could be an fishing trucker aswell)...
all thumbs up again!!

Dan: I've been following your game-in-production thread here for a long time now, and I think you have amazing artistic abilities, really all of your art samples you share with us are a treat for the eyes.Ã,
Regarding your recent "Attorney o' Law", I think it's brilliant, and I get a good chuckle from it thinking about how the finished product might be in a real adventure game.
I really look forwards to seeing your game in action.

Are you still looking for scripters/programmers for your game?Ã,

Regarding "bmovements" inappropriate comments, it seems many of his posts on the forums overall tend to break many of the forums rules, so I think he's just "Trolling"Ã,  with his unhelpful posts.

Best wishes.

I have followed this thread for a while now. This is a game I'm really looking forward to. Keep up the good work. This is one that is a constant inspiration to me. I'm just trying to come up with a good idea for a game of my own.

PyroMonkey

I must compliment you on the excellent characters and background. The Attorney thing is pretty darn funny.

You wouldn't be interested in doing backgrounds for a game of mine, would you?[/sleazy recruitment scheme]

Lol thanks,

sorry, i'm a little too busy with the game and numerous other bits and bobs at the moment!

PyroMonkey

I know what you mean, lol. I've been continuously putting off studying for exams until I can get a good start on my game. I may regret it soon, but for now, I'm quite content. ;D

Maybe I'm the only one, but I'm annoyed to see this thread kept around the surface of the GIP board for about a year (or longer, I lost track).

I'm looking forward to playing this game as much as the next AGSer. However, it seems like every time this thread starts to sink, some newbie posts something unimportant or Dan releases more sketches for the game. There's nothing wrong with concept art or compliments...but building a thread on that gets monotonous.

Ultimately, the point of a GIP entry is to spread awareness. Going beyond that goal merely leads to a 12-page worship thread like this one.

Perhaps Dan can take all his lovely concept art and game info and compile it into a nice little webpage. He could even have a comments section so people could post compliments and emoticons.

When I read this thread, I didn't just see the quality art Dan created. I saw a project announced far, far too soon. The hype wore off a while ago, and disconfirmed expectations can never have a positive influence on a project.

Dan, I would suggest looking at the other "professional-looking" AGS projects. Every once in a while, the author updates the thread with news about the project, but certainly no effort is made to keep it at the top of the board. It's part of a normal cycle, where the topic sinks as the author works on the game, then reappears once some progress has been made.  When I see these  project threads at the top again, I know that the author made an update (unlike this one, which hovers around the top, but offers nothing truly substantial in terms of news).

I think DONNA, Rise of the Hidden Sun, Indy FOY, A Tale of Two Kingdoms, Shadowplay, and countless other projects are doing it right. Take an example from them.

I can understand your point of view, but it seems to me that it's a personal naunce more than anything.

Firstly, i'm not creating this game to attempt to become some untouchable AGS figure, i'm creating it to boost my portfolio, as i wish to work in the games industry in the near future, so my intentions stretch far beyond the process of wooing a few people on a forum with pretty pictures. And i'd argue to ask when is a good time to announce a game then? Surely the premise is you create an idea and a story, along with some early art or screenshots then go from there, which is what i did. Yes, i realise the game has been in production for a hideously long amount of time, but i do have other commitments, and i dont work on it religiously. I've never commited to a release date, but i've always retained that i'll finish the game no matter what. As for disconfirmed expectations, i'm confident i can create a very good adventture game, not just graphically but in all aspects.

As mentioned on my website, i'm creating a minisite for the game, and as mentioned in other posts here ill be reducing the amount of times i update with art etc. as i near the scripting phase, and people must understand that due to computer limitations, i must do everything in a certain order, most likely very differently to how a normal AGS game would be created.

I'm just a little bit annoyed that i feel as if i've gotten a slapped wrist for doing no harm whatsoever, if you don't like what you see inside this topic, then simple, you don't have to revisit it until you see a new one in the completed games section.

Snarky

It's Dan's game, he can promote it any way he sees fit. I don't see that he's abusing the GIP board in any way. I for one appreciate his frequent updates, and the reason why the thread stays so close to the top of the board is that a lot of people are enthusiastic about Lost Lagoon.

As for the other games you mentioned, no unkind word about them, I'm excited about many, but I think they've committed more blunders than Dan has. Where is the Shadowplay demo that was announced? Or the FOY demo? Ultimately, it doesn't matter if the game is completed and is any good, but they're hardly model examples of how to publicize a game in production.
