Thanks for all your support guys,

I can pretty much gaurantee the game wont be over 20mb, the only thing i can see hiking it is the music, but there'll be ways around that.

Elliott Hird

One of them is called "OGG"...

Hey, Dan! Cool stuff you got going on :)

Heh, good to hear it won't be over 20mb's :) My connection sucks ass and always seems to disconnected me before I can finish long downloads. I downloaded Star Downloader a while back and it seems to help since it'll pause it when it disconnects so I don't have to start all over again... so I'm still looking forward to getting this game :D

Can some one help me out with "OGG"? I don't know exactly what it is. I know it's a different format of audio, but how much smaller than MP3 is it? There must be converters for this right? Does it require a special player/codec for it?

MIDI always have been the favorite in my book. With LE that's what the music was going to be until I heard Marcus' MP3's... I got sucked in :) I might end up having him make the into MIDIs to down the file size.

Got another question regarding MP3's in AGS. I'm most likely wrong, but I always thought that MP3's were seperate and not compiled with the game, the code called that specific tune and played it from the game folder, unlike sound files. I'm asking this not only for Dan, but for myself as well since I planned on making a serperate download for the music.

It's not smaller than mp3, since both formats run at a bitrate of your choice (such as 128 or 192Kbps), but in general ogg is considered to offer slightly better quality than mp3 at the same bitrate. You will gain nothing from converting mp3 to ogg - in fact you will lose quality since both format has it's strengths and weaknesses. If you convert from wav, you could use a converter such as OggDrop, but a lot of modern audio editing programs save to ogg format. AGS supports ogg without any external codecs needed, and most mp3 player programs like WinAmp also plays it.  In general ogg is preferred because it doesn't have the licensing issues of mp3 (where, if you choose to sell your game in a certain number of copies, you need to pay Fraunhofer who owns the format patent).

Edit: Or, you could just have looked it up in the manual:
QuoteTIP: What is ogg? OGG is a digital music format, similar to MP3, but achieving better compression and higher quality. More importantly, it is a totally free format so no royalty payments or licenses are required to use it. For more information and programs to encode your music to OGG, see http://www.vorbis.org/

Edit2: Regarding your second question, again from the AGS manual:
QuoteNOTE: WAV, MP3 and OGG music files are not included in the game EXE, but are instead bundled into a separate file called MUSIC.VOX. Whenever you add any new music files of those types to your game folder, you need to choose "Rebuild VOX Files" from the Game menu in order to update the store and make them work in-game.
Which makes it perfect for distributing the music separately.

Sadly, you don't even have to be selling the game... I feel sorry for the people who made 'I'm OK'.

Wow I love the direction you've gone with the art in this game. The characters are lovely, and the backgrounds, esp. the trees in the first pic. I love heavily stylised games.

I'll be sure to DL this one!

I study digital media, so it's actually ideal for a project. I'd been considering it for some time, but i didnt want to say anything until it could be confirmed.
