yay! that is good news! thanks danclarke!

does this mean you broke the game up into smaller parts? or were you always going to release it in parts?

I think the initial idea was to release it in parts. And no, Dan hasn't got a site for the game itself yet.

DanClarke

Thanks for all the enthusiasm :)

As Ildu mentioned, the game will be released in parts, so the part released in May will be Part One. I'm currently working on a minisite as an extension of my personal site too. Here's some uber-rough sketch a knocked out this evening!

Either ildu is DanClarke under a different username haha or he's madly in love with him haha. Just kidding.

Great stuff Dan, your game's graphics are so professional! Hope all goes well for your evaluation!

Thats awesome news! I can't wait to see how this progresses over the next few months! It will also make your uni life a lot more fun! I always prefered projects I really had a passion for...I'll be checking back here regularly to see how things go from here!

Ahhh this has made my day. Great news.

Good luck Dan!

Thanks for all the feedback, it's so encouraging! I think i'm more excited than anyone about getting the game done! :)

A screenshot i finished a while ago, but didn't post:

I have other commitments with other pieces of work until the 29th of March, so it's only then i can really get working on the game, expect the website and the intro movie to be online early April, and the website will be updated weekly as i progress through the development.

When the website is launched i'll stop posting updates in this post and start updating on the official site instead.

Oh, so that's the pic from the banner. Looks very good but it surprised me that the place was on a beach when, from judging by the banner, I always thought it was some kind of tower or a lighthouse. Oh well! Can't wait for the full game to come out.

Hey all, i'm not dead.

One of my new BGs:

EDIT: Fixed the surrounding frame.

This one took me a very long time, mostly because it has 4 exits, which made it difficult to layout.

The 'official' game site should be online by tonight, and ill host information about the GUI and some of the characters etc. I'm also ditching the 'quicktime' intro in favour of a 'sam n'max'comic style pdf which will be online and come with the game at launch. I'll also be announcing a few suprises once the site launches!

Thanks for your patience

Dan

That's ... that's ... ultra ... hyper ... I'm lost for words. It's not the C&C, but the bright outlines of the frame in the in-game-version are distracting. Other than that:  :o :o :o

Lol thanks,

I put a slight sharpen on it to make it easier to see because i's so small, so it shouldnt be an issue in the game. I'm still toying with the frame, and compostition, and note the kitchen (the room straight ahead' is still just a doodle because the kitchen BG isnt finished yet.

Why not just post it slightly larger?
One would think you were happier with the sketch. If so, I agree with you - the sketch has more looseness and energy, and I find it more appealing. I think I'd rather play a game set in your sketches than the final backgrounds.

In some ways i do, but i think at 320x200/240 it'd be very difficult to pull off a particularly loose style, as you can't express the intricacies and details that a higher resolution gives the freedom for. One of the biggest obstacles i've found when doing the art for this game is keeping it consistent, i'm constantly having to reference my previous BGs to make sure everything looks in order etc.

But with future installments ill probably look at hiking the resolution ala CMI.

Woah! Same as nihilyst here. I'm out of words. Just... WOW!

How many times must I say this? Looks awesome.

The first version of the background (a sketch maybe?) feels a lot like the Goodsoup hotel from The Curse of Monkey Island. Is this an inspiration or just a sheer coincidence? Whatever the direction is, it is great.

Can't you tell us how the game's status is in percent? I really want to know how much it is left.

Omg i wish i could make a game like that!!.
Do the backgrounds remind anyone else of Monkey Island 3 - The curse of monkey island?
And i absolutly love that game, so im sure when i get to play this i'll love it 2. When do we get to play it?? It looks amazing!.
