Hi all on AGS. i am so pleased that i stumbled across this site a few days ago. its just what i was looking for. i have had an adventure game idea for some time now and want to bring it to life. i have read through alot of the biggeners guide and looked at the awsome help vidio on YOU TUBE. and am quite cofident that i will be able to get started with my game. unfortunately i have seemed to hit a snag.

I cant figure out how to get my drawings to work on AGS when i put them to sprites and try to use them in my game.

To be honest im a nooblet when it comes to technical things with computers (but hey i gota start someware)

it might be that my drawings are too detailed but i am not sure.

If any one could help me out (or is willing to partake in a slow and painfull death trying to explain things to me) i would be most greatfull for youre assistance.

once i can overcome this im sure it will be smooth sailing hope to hear from someone soon lots of love DnB Junky

PS. i am very sorry if i have posted this wrong im new to this and hope i will get the hang of it soon.

You need to save them in a format that can be read by AGS. The best choice is PNG.
Open a picture in Paint, select "Save As..." from the file menu, then set the file type to PNG (at the bottom of the list).
You can then import it as sprite in the Sprite Manager or as background by opening a room and clicking the Change... button next to the Listbox that says "Main background", iirc.

Aha thanks for that. i will give that a go, hopefully this will sort my problem.

i will let you know if it does thanks again.

Aparently i was allready doing this hehe (told you im not good at this yet  ;D)

what is happening is that i drew a few pics of my main char, i then went to sprites, (right click and selected pic i wanted from file) put the yellow box thingiy round the char ad got him in my sprites file. (he dosnt seem to have a pink background like on the you tube vidio) i then went to veiw and put him as the veiwable char (he is there next to the pink background box)

i try to play game (i have a blank room at this point too) and it crashies or places him giant size for what i want.

also (sorry to be a pain) im not sure what resalution or colour bit to select and would this make a difference. it seems to work on 320-240 res but not sure what this means.

my pc is quite a good one.... not top of the line but i would have thought it could handle something like this.

hopefully you could help me out again and thanks again for youre last reply it got me excited for a few mins until i realized i was doing that all along  :P

The reason your character is so huge is because you need to consider the character's resolution compared to the game's resolution. For example: if you have a 320X240 game, and you import a sprite which is 92X184, he is going to be huge. But if you imported the same character into a 800X600 game he would be a more acceptable size.

Edit: Also if you have a highly detailed character you would want to have a 16 or 32 bit colour depth.

Ok thanks for that. i take it if i use a 800x600 sheet of paper on paint.net then it will be the size of the room and just scale my char to suit.
Am i right in thinking this?

i scaled down my drawing to an acceptable size but he still comes up huge... how annoying hehe. im obviously doing something wrong.

also i imputed a room 800x600 and tryed it on that. still the same thing.

i am on 16bit colour depth 800x600 resalution and also graphics driver direct draw 5 (the default one)

is it that im not clued up on the sizes of things from paint to ags?

another reply would be greatly appreciated thanks again for the last one
