My clock says January 15, the topic says, 1-15, I put two and two together and vote.  The end for my logic.  :)

If anyone else wants to take part, there is about 24 hours left before voting begins.

I'll go ahead and vote.

Doesn't seem like 24 hours to me. :=

----- EDIT -----

Screw it.

I got a little bit of crit on it at one point, concerning the lights, but it was not really advice, but a push into the direction I was already about to go.

I am for sure going to use this background in a game.
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

Now, however, it's time to VOTE.

Please refer to the voting system described in the first post.

The winner will be announced in 48 hours.

@Akumayo: If you want to change your vote, do so, if not, don't do anything and it'll be counted as it is.
@Rocketgirl, taffytom, Vict0r: A piece of advice: don't vote for yourself, it's silly, only politicians do that.

But voting for other people is what people who don't want to win do. Are you suggesting we abstain? Cuz I can certainly do that. :)

This is as much a competition as it is to practice your skills. Don't be childish and just vote for the background you think is the best.

Edit:
My votes:
* Best Idea: Darth Mandarb

* Best Design: cpage

* Best Functionality: cpage

* Best Technique: cpage

Best Idea - The oscar goes to Darth Mandarb. Usually the most inventive, unusual and workable idea takes the prize in this category, and Darth's civil war hospital tent is just that. It happens to stray from the topic just enough for it to work perfectly. Everyone else in the competition sticked with more traditional environments, so Darth's background stood out the best.

Best Design - The winner is Darth Mandarb. This one was between Darth and cpage, but I just loved Darth's whole image. Enough said.

Best Functionality - The lucky guy is cpage. I felt like cpage deserves some of the praise. His background was very nice and inventive. But above all it was a background I could imagine seeing in a game. It would totally work with sprites and whatnots. The walkable areas are quite small, but workable, and it's easily understood.

Best Technique - This goes to Darth Mandarb. I like the semi-realistic look, the crisp outlines and the wonderful colors. It really depicts the time and topic very well.

Best Idea - cpage; looks like a morgue -> dead bodies -> dead :D

Best Design - Darth Mandarb; I like a lot. I couldn't have thought of such a scene myself.

Best Functionality -Ã,  cpage; nearest to my style might be the main reason. I can almost see the coroner from the city where my game's taking place standing behind the table...

Best Technique - cpage; Just... perfect. For my taste, that is.
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

And here it comes...

Best idea - Darth Mandarb, of course... So brilliant idea!

Best design - Darth Mandarb, again. I've always loved Darth's graphics.

Best functionality - cpage, really good work.

Best technique - Darth Mandarb. Nice, realistic, and good colors.

I vote for myself in every category. Oh but I didn't enter lol

*ahem* Hmm.

Best Idea - Darth Mandarb.
Good idea, it stands out from amongst all the entries, which is good. I don't like the gradients though, other than the sky.

Best Design - Darth Mandarb.
Nice scene, nice design.

Best Functionality - cpage.
I can actually imagine the background in a game. Just looking at the background gives a lot of ideas what could be done in the room if it was actually used in game.

Best Technique - cpage.
Darth and cpage have quite similar styles, but I prefer cpage's background more. As mentioned earlier, I don't like the usage of gradients and what seems like usage blur tool in Darth's background. The lighting in cpage's background is very moody, but I think it could be even more moody if the lighting was stronger.

I would have to vote for Darth Mandarb on all 4 counts, with Arcangel coming a close second in the Best Functionality category.

Darth Mandarb

Best Idea - Zooty
He created a back story to "set the scene" ... worked for me!

Best Design - cpage
While some of the 3D backgrounds look nice, the "hand crafted" feel of this one grabbed my attention more!

Best Functionality - cpage
of all the entries, this one's layout most felt like an AG background.

Best Technique - Krysis
the style of this one stood out to me the most!

* Best Idea - Darth Mandarb - Very original idea and it looks great.

* Best Design - cpage - Has a lot of atmosphere to it.

* Best Functionality - Zooty - Would work great in a game if the sprites were kept in the same style.

* Best Technique - Arcangel - I really like the clean almost 3D style of this.
