Wow, this is a lot more entries than last time.  I've gotta say, I like Neutron's the best.  Especially since he touched up those torches.  And that gargoyle is badass.

thanks man, and btw yours looks great, but, i only ever saw the top of it, and it seems to be slowly shrinking.  seems like maybe a bandwidth issue.

Not really a background you could walk in, but it would work as a start-up-screen or a screen for a cutscene.

nihilyst, I love this picture. It looks like there's a huge cloud in the sky, like the first step of a storm.
I'm a huge fan of atmoshpere and dark lighting etc, like Jade, Neutron, and Floskfinger's pictures, but I'm an even bigger fan of unusual angles, even if they aren't exactly working backgrounds. It looks a little odd that there are black outlines on the tombstone though, it just kinda stuck out so I mentioned it.

Nevertheless, the others look mystical and spooky.

Thank you, Ginny. About the outlines: Well, I can't help myself, but I like it, when things are outlined. I can't do it better, maybe that's, why I like it. The image bases on a photograph I once took from a memorial stone in my hometown.

All these backgrounds are very cool, I think I'll wait for the next bg blitz and hope the competition isent so fierce.

loominous:  That is one excellent background.   I love how everything present seems to bend towards the direction of the moon and castle.  It does a perfect job of leading the eye.  The wood's realism is astounding - yet, it still matches the rest of the piece.  It's a great style - quirky and original.  I especially love the use of shadow.

Well, sorry to rant, but I hate saying I like things without explaining why.

it seems that loominous has a bandwidth issue so i only saw the top couple of inches, but it looked like a pretty thoughtful composition from what i saw, and well executed, so that's who i will vote for.  it would be nice if i could see the whole thing though.

Jade, Neutron, Floksfinger and loominous' are all awesome. The only problem I have is that I cant see anywhere for the character to walk, it is supposed to be a background, after all.

I would have voted for loominous, but with that fatal flaw brought in, my vote is re-directed to Neutron.
